Kirknowe is a traditional stone-built 18th Century house restored to make a unique and memorable detached holiday cottage set high in its own substantial grounds. This historic Monks retreat keeps many of its original features, including a floor to roof galleried living area whilst employing all mod cons including underfloor heating. Reached by a short private drive off a quiet country lane, the house is on the side of a hill looking over trees, fields, the meandering Wauchope Burn and the church and the small community of Hobkirk. Bonchester Hill and Rubers Law (1392 ft), both Roman hill forts can be seen in the distance. The garden is enclosed with various places to sit out and a flat area good for playing outdoor games. If you are bringing mountain bikes - and this part of Scotland is famous for some of the world"s best mountain biking - there"s a lockable barn for bikes at the back of the house. The Horse and Hound in Bonchester Bridge is just a few minutes drive away. Hawick and Jedburgh the two nearest historic Scottish Border towns are both within a 20 minute drive.
