“6 of us stayed at The Harbour lights for 4 nights, the property was immaculately clean and exceptionally well equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay.”

Harbour lights is perfectly placed for beach walks, shops, pubs, restaurants cafes etc., we had excellent meals in each establishments we visited! The boat trip out to the Farne Islands was fantastic and we saw, dolphins, seals, puffins etc., Overall we had an amazing time and would highly recommend this property for a comfortable and convenient stay in Seahouses.

“Although a very nice and warm property we did feel that it could be better looked after.”

Throws and cushion covers dirty ( I did wash them ) and bulbs missing in some of the lights Internet would not connect to upstairs tv for the last 4 days we were there therefore had to use small bedroom tvs. On the plus side very warm comfy beds and good showers and washing facilities.

We are sorry to hear of the issues that you have raised and thank you for rectifying those you could. That is very good of you. The television was OK when we stayed in February and the current guests have just confirmed to me that it is working now, so it must have been a temporary issue. I am sorry that you had a poor experience with the TV. We do endeavour to maintain our two properties to a high standard. In February both bathrooms at Harbour Lights were upgraded (brand new showers, walls and flooring) and the main public areas were repainted. “Clean, well equipped, well situated and a very pleasant house to stay in.”

Accessing car parking area difficult at times because of vehicles parked on the road. A suggestion would be black out blinds and curtains on the front downstairs bedroom window, there’s a very bright street light outside.

“Our first stay in this property but not the first time in Seahouses.”

This has a really pleasant, peaceful atmosphere, with the first floor open plan living area being particularly effective. The property is very well appointed, and is literally seconds from the sea front, but feels secluded when you are inside. We found it to be comfortable, and very quiet. The designated parking area was also most appreciated. I would like to comment that the bedding, while clean, did show evidence of some stains. I understand from previous reviews that this issue is currently being addressed. The hand held shower head in the upstairs bathroom adjacent to the double bedroom requires some attention, as it is loose. But this is a minor issue. Overall, we were both delighted with this property. It rates highly enough for us to have already booked for next year.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at Harbour Lights and plan to return next year. Yes, we have addressed the bedlinen issue. Our cleaners have been asked to check the bedding that our linen-hire company provides and immediately return it if there are any marks. If it recurs we will be changing our linen supplier. “Beautiful cottage in a lovely location - we had a relaxing and comfortable few days, thank you!”

Very comfortable beds. Great kitchen and equipment, but toaster was slow and the frying pan needs replacing. Great bathrooms and plenty of hot water, but need shaver/electric toothbrush sockets. On the surface, very clean, but needs a more thorough clean - under sofas and on lamps etc. Good quality towels, but one was filthy and not usable. All in all, very positive and would recommend, but a few small points for improvement.

Thanks for your comments. We will replace the frying pan next time we are in the property and will check the toaster. I'll speak to our cleaning company. Hopefully they have already rectified this (apologies for our delayed reply to you). There should be a shaver adapter in the master bedroom, but they do disappear. We will replace. I am really sorry to learn about the filthy towel. We used to provide all our own linen and towels but these days the agents insist that we hire from them. I will have a word with them about this and also ask our cleaners to check them. Property Owner

“Great location but problems getting in/out of the parking area due to vehicles parking on South Street opposite the entrance/exit.”

The parking is not suitable for a family size car which is poor seeing as the property sleeps 6. We were extremely lucky that there were only ever two cars in the designated parking area otherwise this would have been unusable. Inside the property there are numerous marks on walls and carpets so it’s probably time for a deep clean. The main issue is the poor seating in the lounge area. Before we booked, we noted in the previous comments that this was mentioned and seemingly addressed but the occasional chairs are not comfortable or suitable for sitting on for any length of time or after a day out and about. We were a party of 5 adults so maybe not a problem if there are children in your group.

Thank you for your feedback and apologies for our delayed response. We are sorry that you had some issues with your stay at Harbour Lights House. I agree that it is frustrating when people park opposite the entrance to our private courtyard and that means care is needed when entering and exiting the parking area. It has not been our experience that the parking is unusable on the rare occasions when there are 3 cars parked there, but it does require care and a bit of manouevring. I am disappointed to hear about the state of the walls and carpets, and will check these out when we are next in the property. The whole house was repainted in February 2024 and all the carpets were new in December 2023. We make every attempt to keep everything in tip-top condition. Thank you for your comments about the seating. You are correct that this has been raised once before and we thought we had resolved the situation. We will discuss this with our agents and see if we can resolve further, or put a comment on the property page. In the room there are 2 sofas which can very comfortably accommodate 2 people each, perhaps 3 at a squeeze. There are the 2 small occasional chairs which we added, there are 6 dining chairs, and there is a large wooden armchair beside the table. We had hoped this would be sufficient for larger parties of adults, but I do take your point about sitting relaxing after a day out. Unfortunately the open-plan layout of the room, the position of the doors and feature fireplace means we cannot put an additional 2 larger armchairs in the room. Thanks again. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback. At the moment we don't provide a welcome pack, but we do provide milk, coffee, tea, and quality toiletries (Arran Aromatics). From September to March we also provide a starter set of logs and kindling for the stove. It is something we will review. Property Owner

“Lovely spacious property.”

Just a short walk to pubs, shops, harbour and fabulous Smokehouse. Liked having kitchen and living area at first floor level - roomy, airy open plan space. Only downside is narrow entrance to courtyard which is awkward for large vehicles but we would love to return one day.

“The house had good quality fittings.”

The kitchen area was fine (though could have done with 6 extra table knives) The bathrooms were good. The living area had only 2 x 2 seater sofas, and 1 x wooden chair. The other chair for the the 6th person had to be taken from the dining table chairs. The photo gives the impression of being at the sea front when in fact it is down the street, the sea being only visible from a side window. The other window overlooks a crowded caravan site.

Thank you for your feedback, which helps us to improve Harbour Lights. With regard to seating, we have the 2 sofas and the wooden chair as noted. There is also a beanbag and 6 dining chairs, which is fine for most guests. However, we agree that 6 adults might prefer more 'comfy' seating, so we have ordered two small comfy chairs which should rectify this. We are sorry that you were disappointed in the sea views. The open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area has dual aspect views of the sea. On one side you can see the end of the harbour (and its lights - hence the name), and beyond that the Farne Islands. On the other side the view is over a well managed and quiet caravan park towards the sea and the south. Harbour Lights is not (quite) located on the sea front, but I would respectfully disagree with your comment that it is "down the street". As the pictures show it is right at the end of the road with excellent sea views. Thanks again for your comments. Property Owner

“As for the cleaning up after ourselves it would helpful if the hoover was in working order.”

The cleanness there was a peanut still left under the table after the previous tenants, and there where also cobwebs, here and there, and a light out in the kitchen. I am very particular when it comes to recycling but there was only a black bin available, which was already over half full

Many thanks for your comments. I'm sorry that our blue bin wasn't in its normal place when you were staying. Our cleaner had reported it missing after recent storms. I'm pleased to say it was located and returned a few days later, but sadly not while you were staying. I had already made our cleaner aware of the need for some deep cleaning work and high dusting which will be done when the property is empty this winter. Thanks for letting us know about the hoover. It is only about 18 months old, but it sounds like we need a more robust one. I've discussed it with our cleaner (who uses her own equipment) and she has recommended we replace it with a Henry vacuum which should be more reliable. We will order that shortly. “Lovely stay at harbour lights house.”

Great facilities, nice to have those homely extras you wouldn’t normally get. Beautiful fireplace sets the lounge area off beautifully. Great views of the sea which is only meters away. We stayed in October 23, nice as cosy inside as it rained outside. Also has some lovely sunny days. Second time visiting Northumbria this year and would definitely come back and stay here again.

“A lovely holiday home, facilites excellent!”

The sitting room with its extra height, windows on both sides and roof, is particularly pleasant, bright and comfortable. The view was very good, we were able to watch the storm which occurred during our stay, with it's awesome waves, crashing on the sea wall and harbour safely from the comfort of our living room !

“Cottage exactly as described/pictured, comfortable, great location, good facilities.”

Just a couple of fixes required - light in hall needs the transformer replacing or a new unit (owner has known about this for some time) and a downlight in the downstairs bathroom needs replacing. Seahouses is a great village, plenty of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops and pubs. We were concerned about the lack of a major supermarket, but the Co-op is one of the largest I've come across and has a good range of produce.

“Harbour Lights is a clean and comfortable cottage with superb views.”

Great to have off street parking, although access can be tricky for larger cars, depending on vehicles parked opposite the archway. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and has good storage. The showers are powerful with an excellent supply of hot water. We assumed that perhaps a winter touch up of the paintwork might be going to happen as lots of marks are visible where guests have scuffed the wall with bags. There was a problem when we arrived as the house had not been serviced and, although we had issues with the way this was handled on the telephone, the team of five cleaners who came to sort it out did a superb job.

We really appreciate your feedback, thank you. We endeavour to keep Harbour Lights House very well equipped and in excellent condition. At the end of last season we prioritised the replacement of all carpets and have recently installed a new fridge freezer. We will reassess the paintwork when we are next in the property. I have spoken to our cleaner regarding the initial servicing issue. A change of the booking notification system from the agent to our cleaner meant this turnaround was unfortunately missed in the first instance, but we are pleased that it was rectified promptly. This will not happen again. As belt and braces we, as owners, are now also sending the forward bookings list to the cleaning team. Thanks again for your honest and balanced feedback. Nearby are miles and miles of splendid sandy beaches and the opportunity to visit the bird sanctuary or seal colony on the famous Farne Islands with boat trips running daily from Seahouses, is not to be missed.
