Whether you'd like fine dining or fish and chips straight from the wrapper, Northumberland offers a fantastic selection of great eating venues serving local produce to a very high standard. From pubs to bistro's and even a romantic restaurant in a treehouse, we've something to suit all occasions and budgets. And with our county dominated by such a wonderful coastline, it's no surprise that seafood features prominently in many menus.
With so much choice, we've picked a few options from each of our main tourist destinations to take you on a culinary journey around our region. Offering a diverse choice from freshly caught fish to authentic Italian, we hope it'll 'whet your appetite' for a visit to Northumberland. Just remember to book a table in advance to avoid disappointment. Some bars/restaurants also accept well behaved dogs but check first before arriving with your four-legged friend.
Alnmouth
Home to our head office and one of our sales offices, Alnmouth village is both picturesque with its painted houses overlooking the estuary and perfect for a stroll along it's beautiful beach.
Restaurant Italia - a great little Italian with traditional stone pizza oven and ambience.
The Red Lion Inn - welcoming pub with fantastic beer garden overlooking the estuary, serving good pub food in both it's cosy bar or restaurant. Dog friendly.
Alnmouth
Amble
The Old Boat House - situated in picturesue Amble Harbour, it offers great service and exceptional food with a rustic bistro feel.
Sea & Soil - a hip little bistro offering a vibrant and imaginative menu. A cafe during the day, it transforms into a restaurant in the evening serving a host of dishes from land and sea.
Alnwick
Lying at the heart of Northumberland, this market town is home to both Alnwick Castle and the world-renowned Alnwick Garden.
The Alnwick Treehouse Restaurant - this treehouse restaurant adjoins The Alnwick Garden and is a perfect setting for a romantic meal. Set amidst the trees, it's captivating interior twinkles with fairy lights to provide a magical dining experience.
Bamburgh
Overlooked by its iconic castle and home to a stunning stretch of coastline, Bamburgh village is one of the most visited villages in Northumberland.
Mizen Head - fine dining in the heart of Bamburgh serving an equisite array of seafood and an extensive wine list.
The Potted Lobster - as well as fresh fish dishes, their menu also includes a variety of meat and vegetarian options, providing a truly enjoyable culinary experience. Dog friendly area.
Beadnell
A charming coastal village lying between rolling farmland and the dune fringed Beadnell Bay. It has the only west facing harbour on the east coast!
Saltwater Cafe - this great little cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea but transforms into a fabulous relaxed bistro in the evening serving a selection of fresh produce from sea and land.

Berwick
This bustling market town at the northern fringe of our county is full of cafes, pubs and restaurants. If you're looking for something contemporary, try:
Audela - serving great British food using only the finest local ingredients, the owners strive to continuously refresh their menu to offer diners a memorable culinary experience.
Craster
A quaint fishing village full of charm, this is a great starting point for a walk along the coast to Dunstanburgh Castle and back.
The Jolly Fisherman - a pub with stunning sea views and delicious home-cooked food. Great for a bite to eat and drink after a walk or an evening meal in the restaurant overlooking the coast. Dog friendly.
L Robson & Sons - it would be rude not to try a craster kipper when in Craster.! Pop into their cafe or pick some up to take back to your cottage.
Craster
Low Newton
With it's white-washed square of fisherman's cottages set around a green overlooking the sweeping bay with views to Dunstanburgh Castle, it's a popular destination for locals and holidaymakers.
The Ship Inn - this popular Inn has built up an enviable reputation over the years you need to book well in advance. It even has its own micro-brewery on site. Dog friendly.
Lucker
This pretty village in North Northumberland offers two great eating options:
The Apple Core - a family owned Mediterranean resturant and creperie. Dog friendly.
The Apple Tree Inn - a modern gastro pub owned with good reviews and serving locally sourced produce. Dog friendly.
Seahouses
This lively working port is the ideal place to indulge in some fish and chips to eat by the harbour watching the boats coming in and out. It's also home to our other Sales Office.
Lewis's Fish Restaurant - famous for it's fresh fish and chips, you can either eat in or out.

Wooler
This attractive, inland market town is known as the gateway to the Northumberland National Park and the Cheviot Hills.
Milan - a little bit of Italy in Northumberland. This family restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine.

We're also lucky enough to have an oyster farm right here on the stunning shores of Northumberland. Lindisfarne Oysters are fast becoming world famous and are now being served in some of the best restaurants across the country - quite an accolade! These fresh oysters are great just on their own with a little lemon juice or why not try a dressing such as soy, ginger and chilli - simply delicious! Look out for these local oysters on the menus in some of our fine restaurants here in Northumberland or purchase a few from Swallowfish shop in Seahouses.
