Proclaiming itself as the \u2018Friendliest Port\u2019, Amble\u2019s charm is centred around the harbour\u2019s South Pier and promenade which provide a scenic walkway that\u2019s attractively lit by night.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Amble is also home to a flourishing independent shopping area, the main street called Queen Street was named in honour of Queen Victoria who was crowned the same year as the street was completed &#8211; 1837. Amble has won the coastal community in the Great British High Street Awards 2015. The recently opened Amble Harbour retail pods have a selection of outlets selling bespoke local arts and crafts.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you are after something to eat, you\u2019ll be spoilt for choice. Amble boasts several great restaurants such as The Old Boathouse (voted Best Fish Restaurant in the Country 2016 and 2017), Sea &amp; Soil, The Old Storehouse and even an award winning boutique ice cream parlour, Spurelli\u2019s (it\u2019s really hard to resist indulging!).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The town hosts its very own annual <b>Puffin Festival <\/b>and is the stepping off point for Coquet Island, a RSPB reserve a mile offshore. Home to thousands of puffins, launches will take you close enough to the lighthouse capped island to see the rare roseate terns. Low Hauxley lies just south of Amble on the Heritage Coast and was originally a fishing village. The sandy beach of Hauxley Haven is a now a quiet dune hideaway ideal for taking a moment (or two) to relax and unwind.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>A day at the Beach<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The beach just south of Amble, known as Amble Links, was listed by The Times as one of the 20 Secret Beaches in the British Isles (2009). A mile north of Amble is Warkworth Bay where the beach stretches all the way to Alnmouth offering miles of wide open sandy beach.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>These boots are made for Walking<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>To the south, Druridge Bay Country Park offers walks for people of all abilities in a breath-taking landscape. The pools, lakes and wetlands behind the dunes are linked together by a network of good paths and make it easy to plan circular routes. Amble\u2019s Town Trail leads you to the village\u2019s places of interest and hidden gems, many being quiet and secluded.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Take to the Water<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Amble is a hub for a variety of water sports including sailing, power boating, kayaking and surfing. The Coquet Shorebase Trust (based at Druridge Bay) provides training and courses for all ages and abilities and Northside Surf School offer surf and stand up paddle lessons on nearby beaches.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Thou shall have a fishy when the boat comes in<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Amble is a great place to head out on an angling trip guided by local experts. Amble Angling Centre can arrange charters on a local fishing boat to catch North Sea cod and mackerel on local reefs and wrecks.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>\u2018Give it a Go\u2019<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Sit on Amble promenade and watch the fishing boats land their catch, maybe even treat yourself to fish and chips!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Take a <b>Puffin Cruises <\/b>boat trip around Coquet Island.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sign up for a surf lesson Amble based <b>Northside Surf School<\/b>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Go bird watching at nearby <b>Hauxley Nature Reserve<\/b>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Visit nearby <b>Woodhorn Colliery Museum<\/b>.
