“We all had a wonderful stay at Cheviot Barn.”

So comfortable, lots of thoughtful touches, lovely linen and comfy beds.Welcome pack,too. Such a lot for the children,too. We all enjoyed the garden, and the children loved their table and chairs. Although beautifully clean,lots of it was rather worn.We understand the property is on the market, However some the appliances tripped the electrics.The toaster died,as did the hairdryer.The kettle tripped. And the dishwasher as mentioned by other guests was a bit of a health hazard!We tried it ...

“We really enjoyed our stay.”

The house was equipped with everything we could need including loads of toys and games for the kids (and some for adults too). The general level of cleanliness was good. However, it is clear that the house is not being maintained to standard (we assume that the current owner is selling as we saw the property listed on RightMove as well as in an agent’s window). The dishwasher was really mouldy and actually made the items dirtier than when they went in. The inside was covered in black mould and also some sort of orange gunk which just seemed to get worse and worse. I can share pictures if helpful. For a group of 9 people staying it was a real pain to not be able to use the dishwasher. Also, there was a leak under the kitchen sink with a bucket placed underneath it to catch the drips - clearly the owner was aware of this as it seemed to have been there for some time. The bucket of water absolutely stank every time we opened that cupboard. The extractor fan in the kitchen didn’t work and a few lightbulbs needed replacing. However, none of this spoiled our trip and the house was generally really great, just a few things which could be easily rectified.

“The ensuite shower didn't work.”

As we had no phone signal we couldn't contact the number and as we had 5 kids with us we kept forgetting when we were out. We have since learned of WiFi enabled phone but didn't know about that. The dishwasher insides need replacing and the wirly thing fell off on the last morning. There is no light over the mirror in the ensuite making shaving etc very difficult. Knives are aplennty but all blunt. Some bulbs fluckering

“Great cottage!”

Loved our stay. We had a disabled person in our group so having everything in one level was superb. Loved how the garden was safe to let’s dog out and children to play. Did not have the keys to the garage which apparently had games and equipment to use according to the information folder. Would have been a bonus.

“I would say to the owners of the barn….”

. We had a lovely stay but concur with previous guests remarks about the dishwasher of which we cleaned all the filters which were caked in brown gunk! and still it left all the top racks of dishes wet! We also had to give the oven a good clean before we started to use it as well! Some dinning chairs wonky too! But on the plus side, the Wi-Fi was great, so presume that has been updated and the garden and view and general overall stay was great. Thank you.

“Beautiful cottage and location, ideal for sharing with families or friends as the communal living space was ideal.”

However, parts do need upgrading especially the kitchen. The dishwasher was very old and not washing properly (the water sprayer arm kept falling off) The halogen hob kept cutting out and has to be switched off at the mains to reboot it. One of the patio doors wouldn’t open and generally looked like they all need replacing. The dining chairs were dangerous to sit on because most of the metal legs were loose, definitely need replacing! We were disappointed to not have the Nespresso coffee machine or the use of the tumble dryer listed in the summary…If these items were replaced it would definitely get five star rating!

“This was the 3rd time we have booked this property because is was suitable for our location to work in.”

It will be the last time we use it. The Wifi is terrible, i had notified the owner, nothing was done to fix the issue. The property is ok, with alot of potential if the owner bothered to fix the issues. We booked a 4 night stay and on night 2 the oil ran out and the owner couldnt get an oil delivery until the Friday, the day we were leaving. therefore we had no heat for 3 nights. This is totallly unacceptable. This is the responsibility of the owner to keep on top off. Communications were non existant with the owner, not even an apology for the heating problem. I will not be recommending this property to anyone, i really dont think the owner cares that much about the people to pay to stay. Very poor service.

“Beautiful property, very spacious, clean and tidy.”

Lovely gardens and outside space.Lovely comfortable beds. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, second time staying and booked for a third stay. Highly recommended. A small issue with wifi signal, but not too much of an issue.

“We had a wonderful stay at the accommodation.”

Guests using the double rooms did mention that the mattresses were uncomfortable and needed replacing and we couldn't get the extractor fan in the cooker hood to work. Apart from that we were very impressed with the cottage and all facilities.

“READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING A comfortable and very warm barn conversion.”

Spacious and could be ideal for a large party of family or friends, however I was pleased not to be catering for 8, as the number of trays/pots and dishes were limited. Disappointing to see that maintenance issues which were reported some time ago have still not been resolved.

“When we arrived the property was cold.”

The boiler was actually in reset mode. This was soon resolved. We found that all the kitchen equipment was not adequately cleaned. This to was resolved with washing 70% of cookware. The major problem was the lack of WiFi and poor mobile connection. Sadly it was necessary for me to have to contact 999 ambulance service twice in the space of 5 days. In my opinion the premises has good potential. But,unfortunately, until these problems are rectified I would not recommend the premises to anyone I know.

Our cottage was a lovely place spacious we are an older group and need accessibility the steps down we're to much for 2 in the party there is space for a ramp also the toilet flush is nit very convenient for disabled and arthritic hands but still an amazing place we had to leave early due to Storm Babet but would recommend the cottage for a family

“Not suitable for infirm or on crutches.”

steps to front door have no handrail and are moss covered ( i fell down the steps). side door is down a pebbled path and is overgrown by trees. poor lighting in lounge, outside table in very poor condition and no visable sign of any outside chairs.no wi-fi no mobile phone signal and no landline. i would hate to have had a emergency. on the plus points good selection of wild life, 25 pheasants on lawn on one night, normally 10-12 on most nights.

Not having visited the area before, having no WiFi made it difficult to discover new places to visit that was dog and wheelchair friendly Otherwise, a lovely cottage and extremely comfortable

“The lack of WiFi was surprising in this day and age.”

The beds were a bit uncomfortable and although a table tennis table was one of the facilities offered there were no balls to play with. The property itself is lovely and good for those with dogs and although my comments above are negative the overall experience was very positive. They also brought a lovely hamper of food on arrival which is the best I’ve ever seen.

Beautiful spot, great views. Garden was great for the dog. The area has a lot to offer - countryside and beach, best of both worlds! Lots to visit for adults and children.

“Nicely renovated barn, ideal for a large family or two families sharing.”

Lovely communal dining/kitchen area, with four good sized bedrooms. Even though the properly, at first glance, appears to be located in the middle of nowhere, it is actually very convenient for local attractions such as Alnwick, Bamburgh, and Holy Island. The local Co-op is conveniently only four or so miles away in Belford. I would stay in this property again.

Cheviot Barn is located in a small development of old farm buildings and on a working farm, and was originally a barn on Hetton Hall Estate, with beams and thick stone walls still in evidence, this property has been renovated at an extremely high standard using quality fixtures and fittings. The quiet local roads are perfect for cycling and there are many good walks on the doorstep as it is close to the St Cuthbert’s Way.
