“We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Seahouses.”

The cottage is in an excellent location and was generally clean and comfortable. We would like to make some observations for the benefit of future guests. Unusually for a holiday cottage there were no cleaning materials other than washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets in the welcome box. It's usual to find some surface cleaner, toilet cleaner etc to keep things clean during our stay. There was was also no handsoap which we found a bit odd. It's usual to find some surface cleaner, toilet cleaner etc to keep things clean during our stay. There was was also no handsoap which we found a bit odd. Some of the painted surfaces such as doors and handrails appeared very dirty although I think this was due to the quality of the paintwork. In common with previous guests we found the small sofa in the lounge to be very worn and uncomfortable. Our son also found one of the beds in the twin room to be very uncomfortable. None of these issues spoilt our stay and we did particularly appreciate the constant low level heat.

Thanks for your feedback Tracey. We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage clean and comfortable. We're also pleased you like the heating. We have invested heavily in solar, heat-pump and insulation to give comfort 24/7 all year round. We have asked the management team at Sykes regarding material provided and they confirmed the normal policy - that the cottages are self-catering and people are encouraged to bring their own items to use in the property.We often have questions like this from guests regarding toilet rolls and other replenishables but we only supply a few essentials for a comfortable arrival. I hope that makes sense. Regarding the decorations and furnishings, September is towards the end of our "season" and we will be examining these and making improvements as appropriate. We have already ordered a new sofa and king-sized bed for the top room. Property Owner

“Nice well-equipped property.”

The pictures are beautiful. We particularly loved the top bedroom - very light and with great views. The kitchen was well equipped. The sofa under the window in the sitting area is not comfortable and a bit smelly -we suspect there had been dogs sitting on it. The parking is not easy, fortunately we had a small car. Loved the location - so close to the harbour and to the sea walks.

This year has seen a bit of wear and tear on some of the furnishings. We replaced the upstairs bed with a king-size quality one just before your stay. I hope that gave you a good sleep. “This was a lovely cottage.”

Everything was as described and very clean and we enjoyed our stay here. We had a couple of small maintenance issues which were resolved extremely efficiently and promptly which was very impressive. The cottage was very quiet however really close to all the amenities of Seahouses and only a few yards from the England Coast Path. We thought Seahouses was lovely with lots to do in it and around it.

“The cottage had everything we needed and was a great base for our holiday.”

However, the beds were terrible uncomfortable, the mattresses are all in need of replacement! We left a day early as we were all desperately in need of a good nights sleep. The smaller of the sofas is also in desperate need of replacement, it wasn’t comfortable or suitable to sit on, but it is needed for the cottage to accommodate 5 or more guests.

“The house is fine and location is great BUT it was filthy and full of cobwebs !”

! The house is in desperate need of a deep clean. Lots of the furniture is old, broken and needs replacing, such as, kitchen bin, sofa's, (which were uncomfortable), ALL bedding needs washing. We came home early and and because of this we would not recommend or stay here again. Very disappointing.

“A disappointing holiday.”

Positives: Beautiful kitchen, well equipped. Excellent bathroom and upstairs en-suite. Nice decor. However… lots of issues which unfortunately were very disappointing: The sofas are ancient and need removing immediately. The two seater is simply appalling and not fit for purpose. There is little comfort in this property. The bed in the master bedroom is described as ‘sumptuous’. Sadly the mattress again is old and I agree with past comments that the physio will now be needed. The beds in the twin bedded room were not comfy either. Overall - this property does not deserve 4 stars. We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the last 25 years, several with Sykes, we have been lucky I suppose, but in terms of comfort this has to be one of the worst cottages ever stayed in. We feel very let down with Sykes. The cottage was reasonably clean but far from spotless. On arrival, we found the bin in the small bedroom to be full of rubbish, an empty yoghurt pot and spoon by the TV and food behind the small sofa. There were cobwebs and both the toilets needed a good bleach. The TV had a poor signal. We could only use a few channels and we struggled to use You Tube through the TV. There needs to be a sign in the upstairs en-suite saying ‘mind your step’. Parking too was difficult - the property details need to point out that there is one small parking space only - most days others parked so there was little room for us to squeeze in. Although the cottage is perfectly situated in Seahouses to explore Northumberland, at the end of the day this was not a comfortable cottage. Sykes, this was a poor stay.

Thanks for your feedback Steve. We have reviewed your feedback and made a number of improvements for the benefit of guests going forward, such as replacing the upstairs bed and ordering a new sofa. We have also taken up the cleanliness issue with our Sykes cleaners. Parking is always tight in these little fishermen's squares and the property details confirm space for just one car (which we always find adequate for our campervan). “Cottage is ideally situated and the views from the upper floor are outstanding.”

Comfy beds but one of the settees does definitely need replacing - it is worn out and practically unusable.The courtyard parking was stressful due to lack of consideration by some users. We had a lovely holiday in spite of this and Seahouses and the surrounding area are well worth a visit.

“This is a standard cottage but does not deserve a 4* rating.”

There is nothing comfortable about it. I had to spend the first morning cleaning the kitchen as it really wasn't done to a good standard, however the rest of the house was lovely and clean. The sofa's in the living room are not fit for purpose, one in particular needs to go in the skip, it was a disgrace! The mattresses on the beds were of poor quality, so between that and the sofa's we all came back in need of physio. The downstairs shower leaks badly, which I reported to the management company but nothing was done. Its a shame that such a nice cottage isn't maintained better.

“We had a lovely holiday in Seahouses.”

This cottage is so near the harbour. The cottage was lovely and the facilities good, however:- 1) The double bed mattress is terrible, you can feel the springs and the middle ridge of the divan bases through it. There is a stained mattress topper on top of it but it’s a quilted one and makes little difference to comfort 2) the twin room mattresses are uncomfortable and need replacing too 3) the sofas (especially the faded blue 2 seater) are old and low and no longer have structure. The 2 seater looks past its best before date. The list says comfortable seating in the lounge but the seating is terrible. 4) the fence was broken and propped up by the bin until the penultimate day when Sykes came and fixed it with a brand now fence and gate. This made the front yard unsafe for young children or dogs. 5) the weekend when we arrived parking was atrocious. This isn’t a fault of this cottage, but due to people renting other cottages in the forecourt having too many cars compared to their contract. Luckily this settled on the Monday when they went home. Other than these niggles the cottage is lovely. The main bedroom has amazing views over the harbour and it was lovely waking to the sound of the sea and gulls. The kitchen and bathrooms are clean and new. It’s a central location too - close to the shop and takeaways and harbour. We will definitely come back if the beds and sofas are fixed as we loved it :)

“Clean, comfortable and well equipped.”

Good location, close to harbour and shops. Was OK for 4, but could be tight for 6. One sofa is a bit tired - you sink in and it is hard to get out. Entrance to parking is a bit tight for larger cars. Parking OK if everyone else in the courtyard positions themselves correctly. Black bag bin (landfill) full up on arrival and it was not that week for collection, so we had trouble squeezing our black bag in on departure.

“We had a lovely stay.”

The cottage was clean and comfortable and very well situated being seconds from the harbour. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. It was a cosy house with effective heating and hot water. Overall a great base for exploring further afield - good for walks from the door. One thing, bring small logs with you if you want to use the woodburner - would have been a nice welcome to have at least a few logs to burn on our first evening.

So close to the harbour, amazing view from attic bedroom windows and a delight to watch the world go by from. The kitchen is well laid out, oven easy to use, has everything you need. 2 bathrooms and bedrooms were quite comfy. Close to everything and a parking space make this cottage a delight to stay in.

Would come again and recommend to people. Ideal parking for cars a little tight for a vw can but for through archway. Perfect place to look out at sea from the top bedroom. Everything was there for you to just turn up and enjoy your stay. Close to the sea and harbour so perfect for our old lab to take for a walk

Seascape Cottage makes the perfect base for both couples or families alike wanting to spend time close to the Heritage Coastline. The property is adorned with the owners artwork where he has painted local scenes of Northumberland and the surrounding areas. ACCOMMODATION GROUND FLOOR Entrance in to the kitchen.
