“The photos of the cottage are misleading as the seating out area is at the front of the property.”

There is no back entrance as this is the parking area for the properties behind. The property itself was comfortable and had everything we needed (2 couples). It is in a great area for visiting National Trust properties and the coast and Holy Island. There are a number of things that need to be addressed to the owners direct which I hope you do so through Sykes.

“A lovely well appointed property in a most peaceful, attractive location on the edge of the villlage of Ellingham.”

A really relaxing barn conversion which had everything that we needed. The welcome gift was a nice touch, thank you. Easy access to all of the beautiful places both inland and on the coast in this part of Northumberland. We had a lovely holiday and would certainly recommend and would like to return in the future.

The cottage was really well equipped with lots of thoughtful touches and all the essentials provided. It was warm and cosy, and the location made getting around quick and easy. We would definitely book again!

We love it so much we've been seven times! Cottar's Barn is in an excellent location for all the wonderful Northumberland walks, beaches and castles. Great pub five minutes walk away. It's a peaceful haven in a beautiful location.

The property

Cottar’s Barn is a very attractive converted detached stone-built barn situated in the village of Ellingham between Alnwick and the beautiful coastline of Dunstanburgh, Low Newton and Bamburgh. Less than 10 minutes drive to beaches or Alnwick and its Castle and gardens and fantastic walking country leading to the Cheviot Hills. There is a country pub in the village which serves good food and there are pleasant countryside and wooded walks on the doorstep. GROUND FLOOR Kitchen/dining room with electric hob, oven, microwave, larder fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer in utility cupboard Bedroom 1 with king size bed, en suite double shower cubicle, WC and basin. FIRST FLOOR Living room with oak flooring, TV/DVD and electric stove. Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Bathroom with bath with electric shower over, WC and basin. OTHER FACILITIES Small patio with garden furniture. Electric heating. All power, bed linen and towels included in rent. Private parking for 2 cars. One dog welcome.

The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area. For the keen golfer, Dunstanburgh Links Course is about 1 mile away - just one of several excellent courses in the vicinity.
