“The cottage could do with a good clean, and maybe replace the crockery.”

Also it would have been useful to know that a £2 coin is required to operate the central heating. Otherwise fine and convenient for walks along the coast.

“A very comfortable, well equipped cottage and off road parking is a big plus!”

The welcoming pack was very thorough and was useful for first time visitors to Northumberland. However, the crockery needs replacing and it would have been good to know that we needed £2 coin for the central heating, it was starting to get cold when we stayed. A beautiful area to visit and we look forward to returning.

“The property had not been cleaned properly & is generally in a very tired state, which is a shame as it's ideally situated for exploring the area.”

The bed was very uncomfortable, there was a big dip on side of it. The pillows were very hard & the sheets didn't fit properly. The hoover looked like it hadn't been emptied for months!

“Good points - Great location in easy walking distance of the town centre, harbour, restaurants and beach.”

Best organised property handbook we have ever seen. Kitchen well equipped (although the mugs could do with replacing) and ground floor spacious. Ample off road parking appreciated. Down sides - Low head height on the staircase and low, angled beams in the bedroom meant even for smaller individuals you were in danger of hitting your head unless walking crouched. We had to use our own night light so we could see these obstacles at night. Generally we felt the decor was in need of refreshing. We were startled to find the central heating (fortunately not needed our week) was operated by a coin operated meter - something we had never encountered in over 25 years of hiring cottages. This was not mentioned in the hiring details. A coal fire (with an ample supply of briquettes) was available but no matches and kindling.

“Enjoyed our stay but it would have be useful to have been forewarned about the extremely low beams in the bedroom.”

A tall person would have not been comfortable. The mattress and pillows were too soft, maybe a medium firm one would be better option. We both ended up with back ache . The kitchen was very well stocked with utensils/crockery and an excellent information book provided. Cosy lounge too.

“We were comfortable during our stay at the cottage.”

Good location, kitchen well equipped, good shower, lots of storage and a comfortable bed but there were downsides. Flat surfaces had been dusted but the window blinds, skirting boards and picture frames were dusty. The crockery is past its best and the mugs were so unappealing that I bought new for our use. A small amount of food had been left in the cupboard despite a request to guests not to do so but it had clearly been there for some time: BBE 01/2019 on a bottle of vinegar and 05/2017 on a sachet.

Porthole Cottage is an attractive stone built 200 year old cottage furnished to very high standards. It provides excellent spacious and well equipped accommodation for 2 people. Situated at the north end of Seahouses close to the beautiful sandy beach and Heritage Coast which extends north to Bamburgh Castle and south to Beadnell and Low Newton. GROUND FLOOR Living/dining room spacious with beamed ceiling, open fire with back boiler and TV/DVD. Dining area. Kitchen with ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Bathroom with bath, over power shower, WC and basin. FIRST FLOOR Bedroom with king-size bed and vaulted ceiling. OTHER FACILITIES Electric heating using £2 coin metre. All lighting, hot water, coal for open fire, bed linen and towels included in rent. Private parking to rear for 2 cars. Telephone (honesty box).
