“We struggled to open the door as it was stuck at the bottom, having been swelled by damp.”

The door to the conservatory was also affected in the same way The whole house smelt of stale cigarette smoke and a foisty dampness. The garden was delightful. it was peaceful and full of beautiful birds. Overall, it was very comfortable with all amenities plus unexpected extras, for which we thank you.

“We had a glorious holiday in late August in good weather.”

The cottage was very perfectly situated for exploring the whole North Northumberland coast (from Berwick to Craster and Alnwick inland) with its castles & superb beaches and breathtaking dark sky on cloudless nights. Holy Island was just a short drive. Some beautiful coastal walks during the week, but all made possible by having a car. The cottage was small but welcoming, well-stocked & comfortable, better for 2 or 3 people than 4. We were forewarned that the shower wasn't working very well. We couldn't find "a pub within a mile" but drove to The Lindisfarne and The Black Bull.

“We had a great holiday.”

Handy location for all the sights. Great facilities at the cottage, the owners seems to have thought of everything. Only issue was with the bathroom, advertised and when booked facilities specified a separate shower. However was messaged by house keeper within 48hrs of stay to say shower wasn't working and they had adapted the shower over the bath. Thing is on arrival, it was obvious this wasn't a recent set up and the shower hadn't been working for several months. Feel we should have been made aware months ago !!!!

“Nice little cottage with all you need for a comfortable stay.”

Well located away from busy roads and next to a farm. Close to sites such as holly islands sea houses. Inside the cottage is limited for space I think four adult's would be in each other's way. The cottage was comfortable but could do with a little refreshing in certain areas, mainly the stairs where paint is peeling off the walls and the bathroom. All in all it was a nice stay and the fresh flowers and the practical welcome pack was a excellent addition. Thanks

“A great place and situation to stay at.”

You are right at the heart of the best part of Northumberland. I should know I have been going for over 20 years. The cottage has panoramic views of the country side front and rear. 30 second from the A1 so you can get anywhere fast but you are still in the heart of the countryside and 10 mins from the sea. This is a well set out place to stay but is a country cottage in the heart of the country so not lavish, just good. The bath room could do with a bit of an uplift-re shower-bath but very minor stuff, a great place to stay. We love it

Followed instructions for shower but couldn’t manage to get hot water. Bath very dirty and hot tap broken which meant we couldn’t stop flow of water. Also microwave not fit for use.

“Because of Covid regulations you need to be aware that cushions and throws seen in the photographs are no longer there.”

If like us for a variety of reasons cushions are needed for back comfort, then you need to bring your own. Otherwise Corbett cottage provided all that could be wanted in. Beautiful setting. We had a very good stay.

“Corbett Cottage was a lovely place to stay in during our Northumberland holiday.”

We had a little trouble with opening the front door, so we tended to use the back door instead. We are also unused to spiral staircases and although we got used to it this could cause issues with some guests, so something to be aware of when booking. The log burner was lovely to warm us up after a wet rainy day, but we couldn't find where the extra logs were stored so the last night was a little chilly. We had a great time and would happily return.

Easy to find just off the A1 which makes it very accessible but a quiet retreat in the country at the same time. Our dog felt right at home immediately and really enjoyed her beach walks and exploring the country lanes. We saw deer on our second day and many birds, including red kites, sparrowhawks and a kestrel.

“The owners of Corbett Cottage should be really proud of the standard of the accommodation that they have.”

Everything was very clean, the bedding and towels were very good quality and all the ‘extras’ like tea towels, washing up liquid, kitchen roll, tin foil, cling film etc were all there to use. We had a welcome hamper on arrival with a fresh loaf of bread, eggs, milk, chocolate, tea and coffee. I would definitely be recommending this cottage.

Everything we needed was there and WOW what a welcome tray. cakes, crumpets and a real treat a bottle of Bucks Fizz we were really spoiled. The area has so much to see we ran out of time so will have to return to do some more. A real treat was a train journey to Edinburgh where we spent a great day.

Holy Island 6.8 miles. Corbett Cottage is a cosy 19th-century, redbrick cottage, in the small hamlet of New Haggerston, near Holy Island, Northumberland. Perfectly located for small families who wish to explore the beautiful Northumberland Coast Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park. The ground floor houses a character-filled open-plan living area; a fabulous woodburning stove, grandfather clock and comfortable sofas. Double doors from here reveal a delightful little conservatory, set with pretty furniture, this is a lovely spot to sit and read a book with a refreshing drink of your choice. The charming bedrooms rest on the first floor; a double and a double/twin will perfectly accommodate a small family. The interior is topped off with a stylish tiled bathroom, get yourself ready in style before a day of exploring the nearby Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve. Spend some time relaxing in the peaceful enclosed garden to the back of the house with the refreshing countryside air to accompany you. Nearby are the attractive seaside towns of Spittal and just six miles away is Berwick-upon-Tweed, both idyllically placed with heavenly sandy beaches. Berwick provides an array of high-quality amenities as well as some wonderful architecture including Berwick Caste and the 16th-century remains of King's Mount. Nearby is the awe-inspiring Northumberland National Park for a multitude of paths and trails to walk or cycle along. Slightly further afield is the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, offering a wonderful day out for all of the family to enjoy. A well-located cottage to be enjoyed all-year-round.

Holy Island is home to Lindisfarne Priory, one of the most important centres of early Christianity in Anglo Saxon England. The monastery was founded in AD 635 by St Aiden, but the island is more famously associated with St Cuthbert whose remains were carried by monks to Durham, and there they still remain. The island is now a popular tourist attraction with many visitors making a pilgrimage to the priory or following in the footsteps of the monks along St Cuthbert’s Way. Situated in the heart of the Heritage Coastline, the exciting journey to Holy Island begins with the essential check of the tides, the island is accessed via a long causeway which is impassable once the tide comes in. There is ample central parking and a short stroll will take you to the priory. The village itself has quaint tea rooms and pubs and a museum detailing the island’s interesting history. Those who enjoy the great outdoors will be delighted with the Northumberland Coastal Path, which runs through Beal just two miles inland and onwards down the Heritage Coast, offering stunning scenery along the way. Holy Island is within easy reach of both St Oswald's Way and St Cuthbert's Way and there are some great birdwatching sites nearby. The pretty village of Ford with its castle and craft shops is 13 miles away, part of the Ford and Etal Estate which has facilities for cycling and fishing, as well as a mini railway – ideal for all the family. There are also excellent golfing opportunities, with eight golf courses within 20 miles of Holy Island. Northumberland’s beautiful coastline, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, the Cheviots and the fascinating border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, are all only a short drive away. A superb base for exploring all that the region has to offer.
