“The cottage is exactly as described on the website and photographs are accurate, set in a quiet location with ample parking for 2 cars, Seabreeze makes an ideal base for exploring Northumberland, an way commute from such places as Alnwick caste and gardens, Beamish museum and several National Trust properties, our host lovely Aileen, who actually lives in the adjoining property, left a very nice welcome basket for us and updated us on any possible issues we may encounter such as when she had decorators working to the rear of her property.”

I would confidently recommend Seabreeze to anyone visiting the area and would not hesitate to book this cottage again should journey this way in the future.

The property

Seabreeze Cottage is a beautiful, stone built cottage situated in the village of North Seaton on the outskirts of Ashington, Northumberland. Hosting two double bedrooms the property is ideally placed for exploring the local town of Newbiggin By The Sea and makes a great base for travel along the Northumberland coastal trail where you can visit the famous Alnwick, Warkworth and Bamburgh Castles. On your return from a days adventure you can rustle up a home cooked meal in the well equipped kitchen and sit down and dine together at the large dining table. Kick off your shoes and relax in the contemporary, cozy lounge, then settle down on the sofa and enjoy an evening film before heading off to bed. Both bedrooms have plenty of storage and are quite quaint in character with charming cottage windows, sloping ceilings and the original beams. The bathroom is situated downstairs and has a shower, bath, basin and w.c. Seabreeze cottage is built on the remains of North Seaton’s main street, one of the last remaining workmen’s cottages in the village which was built on the South Side along with a Smithy and Shop. North Seaton was, for many years, the family seat of the Watson family. They resided in North Seaton Hall which was built around 1710. The famous architect John Dobson contributed to the building in around 1813 where he added a summerhouse. The house is long gone but the fine old wall which now fronts the street can still be seen. Ashington itself was a famous, thriving, mining village. The Woodhorn Colliery Museum ( 1.5 mile) depicts the lives of coal mine workers and features original buildings and equipment from the former colliery. A great day out. Ashingtons Queen Elizabeth Park (1.5mile) is a beautiful spot with a picturesque lake which is often used for paddle boarding and open water swimming. The bird life is a great treat too. There is a pub/restaurant to enjoy a meal and a drink. Just over a mile away from the Cottage is the coastal town of Newbiggin By The Sea with its beautiful beach and rock pools. There is a ‘links’ golf course too. The bay itself is home to Sean Henry’s romantic ‘Couple’ sculpture. The historic town of Morpeth is a short journey away and boasts many stylish bars and independent shops. The pretty gardens of Carlisle Park attract all ages with a play park for the little ones and during the summer season you can rent a rowing boat and bob around on the River Wansbeck. Newcastle Upon Tyne sits south of Ashington and is renowned for its nightlife with a variety of galleries and museums. The famous Quayside is definitely worth a visit to see the splendid bridges such as the Tyne Bridge and the more recent Millennium Bridge. To the North lies Alnwick, a quaint market town with its famous Castle which is one of the largest inhabited castles in England. Harry Potter was filmed on location at the Castle in 2000. Broomstick training is still available at the Castle! Ashington is the perfect base to explore the best of Northumberand. Make Seabreeze Cottage your holiday home with plenty of attractions to suit all guests.

Note: One well behaved dog welcome with £20 supplement.
