“This was a nice cottage in a great location.”

Parking wasn’t great as you only have 2 hours outside the property. I appreciate it is not far to walk to the other car park but didn’t feel totally comfortable leaving my car there. The facilities were good and functional and both showers really good. The mattress in the main bedroom was very badly stained and this did put me off quite a bit! The pillows and duvets could also do with a refresh. We didn’t see the two bins by the side of the house and (wrongly) assumed our two bins ...

We didn’t see the two bins by the side of the house and (wrongly) assumed our two bins were outside the garage opposite. Unfortunately, the rather irate octogenarian put us in our place which was a tad uncomfortable. Perhaps a little note in the visitors book could clarify this - especially if you are not observant like ourselves! Overall, this was a pleasant stay and thank you for the generous amount of logs for the fire.

About the location

HALTWHISTLE

Hexham 17 miles.

Known as the 'Centre of Britain', this small market town is a great place from which to explore both Northumberland and Cumbria. Haltwhistle boasts a good range of shops and pubs - one of which, The Black Bull, is a real ale pub serving good food! There is an excellent leisure centre with heated open air swimming pool and cycle hire in the town, with pony trekking nearby. One of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall is only a mile to the north with various museums, forts and milecastles to be seen. There is even an ongoing 'dig' at the nearby site of Vindolanda. This truly is magnificent walking, riding and cycling country, with the Pennine Way and various bridleways and cycle routes passing rivers, forests, castles and of course, Hadrian's Wall. Visitors will enjoy this location in all weather and all seasons – a regular train and bus service from the town to Newcastle, The Metro Centre and Carlisle, means that you can leave the car behind and enjoy!

Note: There may be some associated weekend noise due to proximity of the pub.
Please note that bookings must start on a Saturday only.
