“A super quiet cottage on a private estate very much off the beaten track.”

Not for everyone, as there is no village pub or shop within walking distance and there are several other properties very close by but we really enjoyed our stay and our first holiday with Sykes. The facilities had been well thought out …washer/drier, rotary line and airer, dishwasher, tablets provided for both, WiFi, garden table & chairs, even a box with picnic plates & cutlery that could be borrowed. There was a couple of parking discs for free parking in Berwick-On-Tweed town centre and ...

Not for everyone, as there is no village pub or shop within walking distance and there are several other properties very close by but we really enjoyed our stay and our first holiday with Sykes. The facilities had been well thought out …washer/drier, rotary line and airer, dishwasher, tablets provided for both, WiFi, garden table & chairs, even a box with picnic plates & cutlery that could be borrowed. There was a couple of parking discs for free parking in Berwick-On-Tweed town centre and other towns. Comfy super king sized bed and quality White Company linens and towels were provided. We were struck by the quality of most of the fixtures and fittings eg Denby crockery, carpets looked new as did the curtains and the cleanliness was impressive. We also had access to an EV charger courtesy of the owners who lived on the estate. Our hosts, Martin and Sally, were very welcoming and friendly and keen to ensure we had an enjoyable stay and everything we needed. Great access for visiting Holy Island, St Abb’s Head and boat trips to the Farne Islands from Seahouses amongst others. We also discovered it was less than an hour’s drive to Edinburgh, something we would like to do during our next stay!

“What a fabulous property!”

The Haven was spotlessly clean and had everything you could possibly want, a real home from home. The enclosed garden at the back was great for the dog and the grassed area at the front was lovely. We were greeted by the smell of a freshly baked loaf of bread and there was some delicious homemade jam, such a lovely welcome. The beds were extremely comfortable but we thought the pillows were flat and hard, not to our taste but of course everyone has a different preference when it comes to a pillow! You have to get in the car and drive if you want any facilities as there is nothing close by but there are a couple of villages about 10 minutes drive away with shops and pubs so no big deal. The Haven is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore all that Northumberland has to offer.

The owners were friendly and provided a freshly baked loaf of bread and a jar of homemade raspberry jam which were very tasty. The cottage is well placed for travel to norham, Berwick, ford and etal which are all worth a visit. It is very dog friendly. Would definitely go back.

From the moment we arrived, it felt like a true home away from home. The cottage is beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, and extremely comfortable, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. The location is fantastic—peaceful and surrounded by stunning countryside, making it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. It’s an ideal base for walking, exploring the local area, or simply sitting back and enjoying the tranquillity. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought into the little details that make a stay special. The cottage is warm, welcoming, and very well equipped, with high-quality furnishings and a cosy atmosphere throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and wouldn’t hesitate to return. “Exceptionally clean and tidy property with very friendly owners.”

Very well equipped, and warm. The location is good too. Rural location but with easy access to the main road a few miles away. A good location for exploration with plenty to do within a short drive, even in winter. Loved the home made bread and jam! Unlike some properties the wood burner is in very good condition and comes with a generous supply of logs. Lots of local information also, which is very helpful. If we revisit this area we will probably rebook this property.

“What a gorgeous cottage!”

Everything was perfect, from the still warm, homemade bread and jam, to sitting in front of the roaring log burner. We were met on arrival by Sally, and Martin came around later to show where everything was and how to work things, 25 mins from Berwick one way, 15 mins from Coldstream the other, loads of places to visit. Definitely recommend it and would love to return some time.

“The Haven is a lovely property: immaculately clean, extremely well equipped and tastefully furnished.”

The cottage has everything you could want for a cosy & comfortable stay, in a beautiful, peaceful location. We appreciated the owners coming to see us after our arrival & before we left, to check that all was well. And the homemade bread & jam from the owners were a very welcome touch (along with the fruit & wine – thank you). We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area, from North Berwick to Alnwick, with many of the castles & much of the gorgeous coast in between. It is worth noting for fellow EV drivers that, although the property details state that there is a charger at the property, the owners explained that it is not at the rental property but at their own house and we would need our own 8m long cable to be able to use it. We did not have this, but we found there were sufficient chargers in the local area. We really enjoyed our week in this beautiful cottage – thank you.

To address the aspect of the EV charging cable length we have since purchased an 8 metre type 2 charging cable for use by guests who have a standard 5 metre cable. Whilst the charging point is not located at The Haven but at our own property, we are only a 2 minute walk from the holiday cottage for ease of those who wish to charge their electric vehicles 'on site'. “I highly recommend this property!”

We go self catering every year, The Haven was the cleanest, most comfortable and thoughtfully equipped cottage we have stayed in. The owners, who are very friendly and helpful , have thought of everything you may need for your stay. The beds are super comfy, the kitchen is very well equipped and everything is of a high standard. You are gifted some goodies as a welcome pack and milk is in the fridge. We enjoyed The Haven so much that we booked for next year while we were still there on holiday! Definitely a 10 out of 10.

“Great cottage.”

Although the location might seem remote, it isn’t and is within easy reach of many interesting places. Owners were helpful without being intrusive and provided lovely fresh baked bread and homemade jam, as well as a fruit bowl. Garden and general area is a wildlife haven. If you book, you won’t be disappointed.

“Liked having bedroom downstairs so it would be cooler.”

Well equipped property. With excellent cleanliness. Sofa is a bit squishy so not too comfy as cushions wiggle forwards, but that was the only criticism overall. Otherwise you couldn’t fault what was on offer. Shame there was need to repair the water system as we were not able to access the facilities to shower/bathe on Thursday morning. Did appreciate the bottled water to get us through the night whilst water off as very hot weather. Excellent area for exploring and could really have done with more time. Sally and Martin were very pleasant and helpful hosts. We would definitely stay again.

“The lovely cottage in a great location was perfect for us.”

Set in the countryside but only 15 mins drive to the beach and Berwick in one direction and historic castles of Ford and Floors castle in Kelso in the other. The cottage had everything you could need, the owner’s attention to detail was incredible. The garden was safe for our dog and the raised deck was perfect for sitting in the sun in the evening. The freshly made bread and jam along with a big bowl of fruit were a lovely surprise. We will be back!

“A lovely cottage in a beautiful part of the country.”

The Haven was in a rural area with a few neighbouring houses which meant it was very wonderfully quiet. It was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners lived very close by and were friendly and helpful. On arrival we found bread, homemade jam, fruit and a bottle of wine in the kitchen which was a lovely surprise.

And can happily say that this property by far outshines them all .from our first arrival we were met by Martin the owner who showed us everything we needed to know about the cottage and surrounding country side .the cottage can only be described as pristine in all areas .well equipped .warm and comfortable .so peaceful .secure Dog friendly garden .everything you could possibly need .the home made bread .jam and bottle of red wine was much appreciated and delicious ..we had a wonderful peaceful week exploring Northumberland and have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars in all areas.please accept our apologies we forgot to make an entry in the visitors book .but I'm sure we will be hopefully making a return visit .thank Martin and Sally for providing such a wonderful cottage for us .

“The Haven is a lovely cottage.”

We particularly like the living room and kitchen being upstairs. Martin and Sally are very very helpful particularly to us as we lost our way getting there. Being able to charge your car is a real bonus. The cottage is spotless and very well equipped. Great welcome from the hosts with homemade bread & jam as well as tea/coffee/milk provided. Rooms were spacious with good storage & enclosed garden was ideal for our dog. Nice walks nearby & not far to drive to local attractions, Holy Island, Bamburgh, Seahouses, etc. Would definitely recommend staying here & we are likely to come back. We've stayed at a few dog friendly cottages in Northumbria & this was by far the best.

“The house was very clean and comfortable, and the kitchen well-equipped!”

There were plenty of books, guide books and games of all sorts. It was a lovely surprise to find a large bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine and some freshly-baked bread waiting for us, AND some of our favourite jam - black currant - thank you Sally and Martin!

“We had a lovely stay at the Haven.”

Martin and Sally had thought of everything to make our stay perfect. We had everything we needed and things we didn't know we needed until we used them (dog cleaner was great) for a comfortable stay. Everything was clean, beds were comfortable (I asked my daughter and her feedback was she liked how it looked and the bed was comfy). Location wise it was great for exploring the coast and the borders. It is on a main cycle route with quiet country roads. We boogie boarded at Cheswick beach, found fossils, gem stones and saw dolphins at Cocklawburn beach. Walked across the causeway to Holy Island. Went to Cragside Castle - adventure playpark, maze and interesting house and grounds. As well as local castles and stream trains. There is so much to do and explore we barely scratched the surface. Thank you for having us at your wonderful cottage.

Berwick-upon-Tweed 7 miles.

The historic village of Norham is most famous for its splendid Norman Castle ruins overlooking the River Tweed, painted by Turner in 1845. Berwick is well served with a number of well known large supermarkets who will deliver to The Haven. The village has an excellent award winning butcher and bakery, a Post Office, grocer, newsagent and two pubs. Also nearby in the village of Allanton is a good restaurant which is great for fishing and shooting parties as well as the Cross Inn at Paxton. Berwick-upon-Tweed is just 7 miles away, at the northern tip of Northumberland’s beautiful Heritage Coast, boasting many restaurants, cafes, pubs and a nearby links golf course. The Scottish capital of Edinburgh or the city of Newcastle are easily accessed by train from Berwick. A superb base for exploring all North Northumberland has to offer.
