“Canny Cottage is a beautiful cottage.”

It has everything needed for a home-from-home holiday. It is scrupulously clean and extremely comfortable. We hardly noticed the passing trains after the first day and enjoyed the views at the back and front of the building. We heartily recommend this cottage for a stay in the northeast. It is close to the coast and many beautiful beaches and villages.

“Lovely cottage in a great location to explore Northumberland.”

This was my second stay and I wouldn't hesitate to book again. The cottage has everything you need, was nice and clean and, although not used, the ready to light fires were a nice touch. The only minor niggle was no pint glasses, plenty of wine and smaller glasses but it would have been nice to enjoy a relaxing pint watching the sun set.

“Lovely stay but we had a few issues.”

We have a 4yr old who often wakes in the night and will come to our room, which was anxiety provoking in this cottage due to the stairs (master bedroom comes directly off staircase - hard to describe). Reading people had fallen down the stairs didn’t help. I think this should have been mentioned in the description. Fixing a stair gate was difficult and only possible below the problem steps. We’ve never stayed at a cottage before that didn’t provide basics such as sugar, salt and pepper, cooking oil or a welcome pack. There was an opened, unsealed milk left in the fridge which we didn’t use as wasn’t sure if this was left for us or not. We were cold. The heating system was set to a max of 15 meaning we constantly had to turn the temperature up and boost the radiators. Being left only 2 firelighters seemed stingy. If a guest had 2 vehicles you would struggle to park as there is no roadside parking. We didn’t find the train an issue and soon got use to the noise and vibrations.

“Fabulous cottage to stay in to explore the North East.”

Very modern, clean and comfortable providing everything needed for a relaxing break. The passing trains were not a problem and we quickly got used to them hurtling past. Lovely large back garden for us and our dog to relax in….it would have helped if there was a wooden gate to fully enclose the back garden for the safety of our dog and to allow us to leave her unattended.

It was a great base for exploring the Northumberland area. It was disappointing that we had to start the week by a visit to the shop to buy basics such as soap and tea bags. We were also frustrated by the very, very slow Wi-fi in the cottage. However, despite these small issues we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Perfect for visiting Bamburgh castle, Seahouses, Alnwick etc. The cottage has plenty of space to relax and enjoy or just sit in the garden. Overall I had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend this cottage to anyone visiting Northumbria and it's amazing coastline.

“Lovely cottage that had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.”

Although the trains could be quite loud with the windows open, we soon got used to it. Close to Bamburgh, and Belford village just a mile away with a Co-op and nice chip shop. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again in the future.

“Lovely property and the cottage was so clean!”

! The trainlines were no problem at all and soon became white noise but a lovely distraction for my daughter to watch! Only thing that would have improved the stay for us would have been access to a high chair, fire guard for the fire /baby gate for our young child. We had slight issue with parking as was unaware of how many spaces allowed but once all other cottage stayers moved their cars up slightly we all fit. Lovely area, clean, comfortable and homely! Would stay again!

“We had an absolutely amazing stay.”

We found the cottage to be delightful with everything we needed and very dog friendly. Throughout our stay we visited Bamburgh, Alnwick, Holy Island, Seahouses and had wonderful walks with the dogs in the fresh air. This was just what we needed to get away from our stressful jobs. Although the cottage is very dog friendly we found the adjoing neighbour not to be. We arrived late in the evening around 8pm and the dogs where excited when we got there after a 5 hour drive (as you can imagine they were excited) our dogs are well-behaved but because excited they did bark a little when exploring their new home and to our amazement the neighbour banged on the walls and put very loud music on. Although we are sorry for the dogs barking, all dogs bark to some extent, unfortunately this put me on edge for the rest of our stay in case they did bark again. Also please accept our apologises but we forgot to empty the fridge, we remembered half way home, so sorry. On the whole though we had a lovely stay.

Modern interior which still maintains a lovely cottage feel. Loved the wood burner, which we used every night. Hubby had issue with the train noise, however I did not. 5 min drive from Bamburgh and Seahouses. Also ideally located for Alnwick. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms. We visited in October, it was an ideal base for exploring windswept Northumberland beaches during the day, returning to a home cooked meal, roaring fire and comfy bed in the evening. Loved it here

“EXPENSIVE. Although this cottage is lovely and we enjoyed our stay, I think £1019 rent was extortionate even in peak season August 2022 when we stayed.”

This year for the equivalent week it's on offer for less than £800. Maybe I booked way too early, however I think if you can get this for a reasonable price you'd love it. Garden so peaceful even with the trains passing.

“I loved it, perfect for a holiday with two dogs.”

The cottage has everything you need, I can’t fault it and I would definitely stay again, mainly the location, central to Seahouses, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and not far from Berwick. There was the obvious none-stop rail traffic near by but we had a good nights sleep every night so no issue there. My only suggestion which has no bearing on the cottage is that may be a mirror could be erected on the road when pulling out of the shared drive because your view is obscured by the railway crossing fencing.

When we arrived we realised just how close the train line was to the cottage, however it honestly wasn’t an issue and you almost become used to the sound of the trains going past! “Thé cottage was lovely.”

Clean and welcoming. The radiator in the living room didn’t seem to come on when needed in evening. And the bedroom one was blasting out the heat unnecessarily. We were asked not to adjust the heating so we didn’t but we weren’t always comfortable. On a negative note I felt bombarded by emails and texts reminding me what to do on day of check out. Please don’t do this. We were only there 3 nights and really didn’t need to be reminded what to do on the day of departure. And only one bedside table and lamp seemed a bit mean. But we did like the cottage and enjoyed our stay

“Myself my hubby and dog Jett spent a week in Canny Cottage and what a beautiful cottage it is, done to a high spec, clean and everything you need away from home.”

The cottage is located within easy reach of exploring the Northumberland coast and we certainly done that in a week and the weather was kind to us too. You can walk or drive into Belford for the local shops. A must do walk is up to St Cuthbert’s Cave we also walked up over the the top of the hill and the views from the top are amazing. We will definitely be back to Canny Cottage.

“Canny Cottage was absolutely wonderful.”

Owners clearly take huge pride in the way it has been presented and was cosy and very comfortable. We loved it. Ideally positioned for getting to some amazing beaches and being mid way between Alnwick and Berwick worked very well for us. Yes, its close to the train line but they go past so quickly you hardly notice them and they certainly didn't detract from our enjoyment. Would love to come back. With regards to Sykes the communication could have been clearer about key information (you should say that owner will contact you) and the stated arrival time differs to the owners details. Can't understand the predominance of Friday start dates - you are effectively having to travel on really busy days (significantly less lorries on roads on weekends as well as no commuters) plus you need to take 6 days annual leave for a weeks holiday.

5 hours early. Comfy cottage close to all locations in the area. Hot water system is a little poor. No bins in the bathrooms, no mirror over hand wash basin. No hair dryers. No cleaning products except wipes. If you're a light sleeper you will get woken by the trains at 5.30 am but you get used to it. Overall we had a great stay

We thank you and appreciate your recent feedback and all points have been taken on board. Due to the rural location of the property hot water systems are via electric boilers and appreciate they may not be as powerful as gas supplied boilers. Bins have now been provided to both bathrooms and although there is no mirror directly over the hand basin there is a large mirror directly behind you (small mirror for shaving etc to be fitted in due course). Hair dryers are stored in the wardrobe to main bedroom. As the property is let on a self catering basis only a basic cleaning pack is supplied containing dishwasher tablets, dishcloths, tea-towels and a kitchen roll. Along with a supply of tea's, coffee's and biscuits for your arrival. With regards to the trains, this is clearly stated in the property listing and although upon arrival they are noticeable but you very quickly get used to them (my personal opinion). Again we much appreciate all feedback as it helps us improve and deliver the best experience possible to all clients and are pleased you enjoyed your stay overall. Best Regards, Jason Property Owner

A couple of things we'd like to mention though. The description of the cottage said there were books, DVDs and games but there were none except one game of connect 4. It also said all fuel was included but failed to mention wood for the stove was charged at £5.00 a bag. Lastly, we absolutely appreciate that nothing but toilet paper should be flushed away in the toilet but a bin in the bathroom would be helpful rather than having to carry female hygiene items and the like downstairs to the kitchen bin. Sorry to complain. We had a really lovely week and would recommend this place highly but felt feedback should be honest.

The cottage is next to a very busy railway line which might not please everyone. However, we were out most of the days we stayed so didn't really spoil our stay once you got used to the trains.

“The advert mentioned the cottage was near the railway lines and that you could hear the trains - and we actually enjoyed listening out for them.”

We were however a bit disappointed that the very 'ugly' huge grain store facility next door was omitted from the description and the photograph. The cottage was beautiful inside and very cozy.

This is not mentioned in the description due to it being some distance away, beyond tall trees and not next door. Log burner is small , we took our own wood and a lot didn’t fit in it , but it warmed the room up lovely, everything else inside was high quality Only one draw back , the trains ! They are very regular and you can here them in the cottage , especially early morning 5am onwards . Also there is a small railway dept there and when we stopped they were working nights and we could here them , we thought we were being burgled first night

We used to visit the area often we used to live in the North East so very familiar with the area, so the property was located close to the beach and also to the Northumbrian countryside. As holiday cottage owners ourselves we know what is important for visitors and I would say that this cottage was very comfortable and met expectations. The views are lovely from both front and back windows. Very comfortable and spacious for 4 adults. There was only two of us and two dogs who settled in very quickly. Thank you to the owns for ticking lots of boxes.

! Amazing cottage!!!! Everything you need in a home from home!! Loved everything about this cottage, will definitely be booking for next year!!! The decor is ultra modern, just amazing!!! Even the dog was happy!!! Lol!!! My nephew loved the trains!! Train track at side of cottage,didnt spoil the holiday,was a good alarm clock!! Lol!!! Will be recomending to friends and family. 100 % accurate in description on website,did not dissapoint!!! Loved it!!!!
