“Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.”

The wide and distant views to the rear of the property are incredible and there is an ancient monument to the front of the building. The location is perfect to explore Northumbria with lots of places of interest within easy reach. I would highly recommend this property and I will be happy to stay with these hosts again. EXCELLENT!

“We arrived to fresh milk and a plate of delicious brownies.”

The owners were on hand if needed. They were pleasant and friendly and happy to offer advice on eating out and shopping. The property was ideal for our needs. Our first few days were spent with our daughter and her family. The accommodation, being on one level, was brilliant for the children. The beds were comfy, the water hot and the standard of the fixtures, fittings and furniture very good. The views from the lounge are spectacular. It is certainly on our list of places to revisit

“Absolutely amazing cottage, felt like home from home.”

Lovely owner who welcomed us at the cottage and leaving fresh milk and home baked chocolate brownies in the fridge for us. Such a lovely surprise! Views were amazing across the river Croquet to the hills, beautiful. Well equipped kitchen, bedrooms immaculate and bathrooms nice and clean. Definately stay here again.

The host Lyndsey is very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. I'd recommend having own transport as it's abit out the way of the main little village of rothbury.

“On the whole, a positive stay, but a few points which would stop us recommending it , if these very resolved, then we would stay again: 1.”

Cleanliness - the bathroom was perfectly clean. But kitchen work top was covered in mess/dusty debris and inside many of kitchen cupboards was dusty. All of the bedside tables and dressing tables in bedrooms were dusty. 2. Given its a 6 berth, you would struggle to get 6 people around the dining table and seating in the lounge area for 6 would not be comfortable. There were only 4 of us, but if there had been 6, it would have been very cramped to eat/relax in lounge. 3. Kitchen equipment lacking a little - no oven gloves being the main problem. Tea towels were stained and did not smell clean. 4. Departure instructions asked that we put a load of towels on to be washed in the washing machine - but no washing detergent provided for this. We happened to have some with us, as we sometimes wash clothes on holiday since having children. But we didn't use to and didn't used to bring detergent. Feel its a bit cheeky to ask us to wash the towels and not provide any detergent.

“Just back from a wonderful week in Forge Cottage.”

Everything about it was perfect. Walks from the front door with views over the Coquet valley and towards the Cheviot Hills at the back. The location is steeped in history, with an old Pele tower, built for protection from the marauding Scots, in view. Hares abound and red squirrels can be found in the woods up Simonside. The charming town of Rothbury is a stone's throw away, giving access to the border, Northumberland Coast and Hadrian's Wall. The cottage itself was spotless, with all the facilities needed for a great holiday, even if the sun doesn't shine. I'm looking forward to the 300 mile drive back to Forge!

“This is truly a lovely cottage with an amazing view.”

Well kept and beautifully decorated. The area is quiet except for the farm traffic. However I would suggest that it is unsafe for children and pets as the road immediately in front of it could be quite busy and vehicles parked right at the front door and windows of the cottage. Also the garden drops away very quickly and is not secure. The household bins are situated at the back door of the cottage and appear to be used by other residents. I would suggest that these are moved for reasons of hygiene.

“We had a great week -location (and view) was amazing.”

Plenty to do, and we felt perfectly safe / welcome in the covid era. We would definitely re-book to come back to this property. A few things needed seeing to - kitchen lights didn’t work (it was light in the evening for this not to matter) and bathroom sink leaked. Both of these we mentioned to the owner (v approachable). Also, the bathroom toilet seat is wobbly and needs tightening, and the bathroom fan doesn’t work at all - this was fine in August when we could open windows to air bathroom. The location is wonderful: we walked up Simonside from the front door, Visited Cragside, went to the coast twice and also Hadrian’s wall, all very easy in the covid Situation.

They have a “fog” disinfectant machine which also helps give an extra sense of security. Views from garden amazing. We were lucky with the weather and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Great Tosson.

although this was on a working farm all the people were very friendly and made us feel welcome, the views from the cottage were amazing. Beds were really comfy. Lovely place.

“Had a really nice time the location was really what made it for us!”

Sheep on your doorstep with magnificent views our only issue was it could have been cleaner washing machine smelled lots of gunge around seal and in drawer also fridge needed wiping down bedding not very good flat pillows and towels was thin we know it's a holiday lett but standards still have to be met we've been to Cumbria twice this year in cottages on working farms and the cleanliness was amazing !this review is based on our opinion only.

“I had a wonderful holiday at Forge cottage The accommodation was very clean and comfortable furnished to a very high standard with every need catered for And the fabulous views from the sitting room over the valley and distant hill was mesmerising.”

Although they were through sliding patio doors not the bi fold as advertised Lovely country setting yet well located to visit Northumberland’s many attractions Did find the busy farm traffic and cars parked out side the front of cottage window a bit distracting But sitting in the garden with sheep just over the fence was very peaceful A good selection of shops in Rothbury just three miles away but the nearest petrol station was 15 miles The large kitchen was well equipped and came with a very delicious Victoria sponge cake which was much appreciated. But the granite worktops were unfortunately fake However one of the best cottages I have visited and would love to return next year

The capital of Coquetdale, Rothbury lies on the north bank of the famous salmon and trout river, the Coquet, and is dominated by the heather clad Simonside Hills. It is an attractive, small market town and its proximity to Northumberland’s National Park ensures excellent local walking. Stone houses, typical of the region, line the town’s steep main streets and there is a good range of shops on offer. With a golf course, public tennis courts and cycle hire close by and a variety of great houses and gardens to explore, including Cragside, Alnwick Castle (home of the Duke of Northumberland), Wallington Hall and a host of famous castles, this great location has plenty to offer. Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder Reservoir and Forest and the sandy beaches and dunes of the coast are also within easy driving distance.
