“Clean comfortable cottage.”

Enjoyable stay. The courtyard needed cleaning and bushes cutting back and the bins were dirty. Disappointed that the cooker was not working. Other than these items, it was a nice cottage.

Hi Maureen, thank you for your feedback. The courtyard is owned by the adjacent cottage. I know what you mean, as I would like to cut the foliage right back myself but I’m not permitted to. I will message the owner to request this today. He does normally have this cut back. As I explained on the laminated note which I left for you and subsequent guests, one of the two Range ovens has just broken but one is still working. I’d hoped to have made a compromise….. The guests who were at the Cottage the week before yourselves kindly advised me of the problem. After my inspection on Bank Holiday Monday I ordered a new Range Cooker which will be installed at the end of the season. (October) The installation of this 110cm Range Cooker will cause any guests unnecessary disturbance as it involves too many variables that could go wrong - a delivery team, removal team and qualified electrician to all attend simultaneously as “the removal and installation switch” can only happen when everything is in place !…. Not what anybody wants on their holiday!!! Indeed, this is why I have bought and supplied, before you arrived, the biggest air fryer (9.5litre) that I could buy and collect, at short notice. So there are still 2 “ovens” to use. Sorry, I really hoped this would be an acceptable compromise. Property Owner

“This is an amazing cottage.”

Mike, the owner, will do anything, and everything, to make your visit the most memorable and exceptional holiday stay. The cottage has everything you could ask of it. The two wood burning fire places are simply wonderful, making the cottage even cosier. The views are spectacular. If you like watching sea birds and herons, then it’s the ideal spot. It’s located close to Seahouses (worth a visit), and the beach walk to Bamburgh Castle is along a secluded beach with amazing views. Holy Island is just a short car trip, and the buses are frequent and stop right outside the property. We will definitely be returning. We couldn’t have asked for more. Totally blew us away. 11 out of 10!!

“Sadly the owner had informed us of problems with the storage heaters not working, on our arrival.”

Even though it was May, it was rather a cold week. We used the stove in the living room to keep warm, shutting off the other rooms. This has affected our overall review. An interesting old house with plenty of space. Comfy bed and well equipped. We had our labrador with us so found the courtyard useful. The property is surrounded by roads with no footpaths so the quick walk became rather dangerous unless getting in the car and driving elsewhere. Great location for Bamburgh and for access to the A1.

Hi Jayne, unfortunately I was advised by national power that my metre did not need an “upgrade”. Their information was incorrect & the “economy 7” electricity supply has been rendered temporarily unavailable!!! I’m so sorry- I honestly thought that the extra 3 heaters that I supplied along with the 3 existing heaters and 2 wood burning stoves would have been sufficient ……when we spoke, I said that if you had any concerns to please contact me……had I have known you were unhappy with the enforced heating situation, I would have immediately arranged for more heaters to be delivered…..my apologies. I so wish you had contacted me. All I want, is for guests to enjoy their stay …… Can I thank you for your feedback as I will tomorrow purchase more oil fired radiators so that future guests can use them as they feel necessary. “A good area for a holiday, lots of places to visit.”

The cottage is generally quite comfortable but stairs steep and windy for elderly people. Would suit 4 not 6 people as only 2 armchairs and 1 sofa in sitting room plus one very small bathroom upstairs and no downstairs loo. Generally rather claustrophobic - dark furniture and some windows obscured by vegetation. No suitable sitting out area; it is very small, overgrown and grubby and very public. Nowhere to hang out washing although a rotary dryer was provided! This could be a beautiful little cottage but it needs some TLC and a thorough clean. PS: If you're a dog owner there's nowhere to walk except along the road.

Hi Alan, Following your feedback we now have a five seater corner set and the single armchair. In addition, a dishwasher has been installed and new curtains throughout. Regrettably, I can’t do anything about the vegetation at the back as that land does not belong to me, but having listened to your feedback, the front area has been completely cleared and gravelled with a new sitting area at the front of the Cottage. You are correct in saying this is a small cottage, but hopefully these upgrades will help maintain its character. Best wishes, Mike Property Owner

“This was a very homely cottage, making the most of historical features.”

Particularly well equipped for a group of six (only two of us and a dog this time) - 2 x fridge, 2 x microwave and a large oven. One of the most comfortable beds yet. Loved the art and artefacts. The high ceilings, fireplaces and general comfort. The only negative for us if being picky was the low pressure in the shower. Good water pressure downstairs. The welcome basket

“We spent a beautiful week in this cottage, it's our first time to Northumberland and our first UK holiday with our 2 year old and Labrador together!”

The cottage had absolutely everything we needed and more, it was clean, comfortable and we felt truly at home here! There was a lovely welcome hamper waiting for us when we arrived. A great little courtyard area and easy access to the beach outside of the complex (5 min walk on path). Easy drive into Bamburgh or a lovely coastal walk for walkers (3 miles). Very informative leaflets left for ideas on activities in the area. We had a lovely time and we would recommend this cottage for anyone wanting a nice cosy stay in the area.

“The Property is listed as Dog friendly, however it is a shared courtyard, so Dogs must be on the lead when you are sitting outside.”

Worth looking at the map before you book, I was mislead thinking we had some access to the beach from the pictures online, however the beach is a couple of miles up the road, although 2 bedrooms have a lovely sea view. The Kitchen was large and well stocked, however doesn't have a table and chairs in there, perhaps if it didn't have 2 fridges and a few less empty cupboards it would open up a lovely space to socialise by the fire place. The actual dinning room is in the hallway, accessed through the lounge, so all your food needs to be carried through the lounge and dirty crocks back again, also no dishwasher, also bit of a dark and cold room, not great for playing games etc or relaxing after eating. Anyone with a bad back wont get comfy in the lounge, the Chesterfield suite was very uncomfortable, and a lack of side tables to put a drink on in the room was a bit annoying. As someone who looks for comfort first when booking a Holiday Cottage, myself and my party were a little underwhelmed by this place, however it would be a perfectly placed spot if you where just using it as a base and not to socialise in.

The Cottage is spacious and very well equipped, a huge kitchen that was a pleasure to cook in and the best welcome pack we've ever had. The Cottage was spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished and we would definitely recommend it. We love this part of Northumbria there is so much to see and do and would definitely stop at Turnstone Cottage again.

“This has to be one of the best equiped kitchens I have ever stayed in.”

No dishwasher or clothes dryer. The dishwasher not a problem clothes dryer big problem with young children and wet weather, no decent airer or outside line which made life more difficult as struggled with almost unusable equipment. When a property is billed as dog friendly , I expect that! I also realise that not all guests will travel with covers etc as I do just in case, I dont like signs up everywhere saying no dogs up stairs on stairs etc. It would have been better with a child gate on the bottom of the stairs that could be for children and dogs. I used a broken one to block stairs. The beds where absolutely the most comfortable. I want one! Products supplied for guests beautiful touch as the welcome box and card. I would stay again very good for exploring the beautiful Northumberland coastal area.

“This was a wonderful cottage in a stunning location.”

It came with the best welcome hamper we’ve ever received. Would really struggle to find anything negative to say about it, except the mobile signal for us was non-existent but the router allowed Wi-Fi calling which cancelled that complaint out. We only had the wood burner going a couple of times as I couldn’t be bothered lighting it. The smart tv kept us entertained in the evenings and was easy to navigate. All in all, it was a hassle free stay.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this cottage.”

Being February it was a little chilly in the morning downstairs, but once the log burners were fired up it was cosy. Very well kitted out, beds comfortable, an ideal base to explore the coast of Northumberland. Although located directly facing the road, we never heard any road noise as it wasn't the busiest road in the world. Lovely welcome pack waiting for us on arrival, even biscuits for the dogs. Definitely recommend. Note there is only one parking space, and literally no place you could park a 2nd car (not an issue for us as we had one car only) but if you took 2 x cars it would be an issue.

“A beautifully situated cottage in Waren Mill with lovely views over Budle Bay.”

The accommodation was very comfortable and warm. Very well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly need. Instructions available for all appliances. We especially liked and appreciated the welcome basket on arrival with some lovely treats for both us and our 2 dogs. There was also milk ready for us in the fridge and a few toiletries in the bathroom. We had a wonderful stay and will hopefully return

Waren Mill is located between Lindisfarne and Bamburgh and this peaceful getaway makes an ideal holiday location for exploring Northumberland.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
