Staycations…we’re happy that they’re here to stay.

2023 staycations across the UK are set to contribute an estimated £28 billion to the UK’s economy. A staggering amount that proves UK holidays are still very popular.

At Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages we are thrilled to be in a great position for holiday letting throughout 2023.

We’ve done the research and it has shown that over 50% of Brits are very interested in staycations this year, and are more likely to book a UK holiday than go abroad, and as the UK has so much to offer thoughout the year Brits take on average 3 UK breaks a year!

Overview of 2022..

In 2022, we achieved an amazing 90.06% occupancy in May Half Term.
Following into Summer, we had a 95.06% occupancy rate with our top week reaching over 97% occupancy.
The average annual turnover for a holiday let was up 59% from 2019.

2023 so far..

We’re delighted to see that our current occupancy rate forecast for 2023 is similar to, or above, our 2022 rates. Despite the current economic uncertainty, staycations are maintaining their popularity.

Proud to be in the top 5!

Our current data is showing that Northumberland is set to be in the top 5 locations for holiday makers looking for a UK staycation this year. Northumberland beat other popular regions such as Devon and North Wales into the top 5*

Consumer trends:

Self catering remains popular with consumers, our data shows that 54% of respondents prefer their UK holiday to be in self catering accommodation. This is often due to it being more budget friendly for families and also offers a more spacious living area.

Visitors also want to take the opportunity to holiday with their furry friend. Dog friendly bookings are higher than previously with lots of our guests now wanting to bring more than just 1 pet on holiday with them. The demand has increased over the years and we have seen 34% of bookings taken this year so far are with pets. So making your property pet friendly is likely to lead to a fuller calendar with more bookings.

Luxury amenities continue to be favoured by holidaymakers. Hot Tubs are still as popular as ever, bookings for properties with hot tubs are up 104%. After a long day coastal or countryside walking, playing golf or busy exploring beautiful Northumbria, a hot tub is the perfect way for guests to relax.
