Heather Cottages - Grey Seal

We've had a lovely, comfortable stay at Grey Seal Cottage.

There was plenty of space for four of us and the cottage is well equipped. The dogs loved the garden and their daily walks on the beach. We saw some beautiful sunsets from the cottage and it was wonderful to have so much peace and quiet. Can definitely recommend it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this excellent, cosy cottage.

The position is fantastic, right on the Coastal Path, with amazing views of the bay. Will certainly be coming back.

Such a beautiful place, the beach is very accessible and clear walkways. Very comfortable cottage with plenty of space. The enclosed garden was great for the dog and the hamper was very much appreciated. Hot tub is well positioned to give you privacy and out the wind. We will definitely be back.

The cottage is in a wonderful, quiet location literally a few steps from the beach.

It is not a cheap cottage even early in the year and that is justified by the location but the interior let it down slightly and did not quite match the location. As reported to Sykes on the Monday of our stay in the second week of February 2025 the downstairs toilet seat was loose and was the wrong shape for the toilet and the upstairs electric shower did not work. A representative of the owners did attend the next day and reported the issues for future repair. The downstairs shower room suffered from condensation and would benefit from an electric heater as was present in the upstairs bathrooms. There was a towel rail but that was ineffective in heating the room and reducing the condensation. The main bedroom on the ground floor would benefit from improved heating, there is an electric radiator but it is not powerful enough to heat the room and it felt and smelt damp all week. Other bedrooms and the lounge had a different and far more effective type of radiator and the main bedroom would benefit from one of these being fitted. Access to the cottage is via steps a short flight of at one end and a longer steeper flight at the other end - this may make the cottage difficult for individuals with even slight mobility issues and does not appear to be mentioned in the pre booking information at present. The cottage was clean and tidy and had sufficient cutlery etc. Considering that the cottage sleeps 6 the lounge furniture only had 2 x 2 seather settees and one single armchair. Neither of the settees were particularly comfortable. The floorboards upstairs creaked very loudly and could be heard throughout the property, sufficient to wake everyone else up. Having said all that, as a couple we would happily stay there again probably slightly later in the year March/April or September/October as it is in such an wonderful location. If you like peace and quiet and direct access to a beach where you can walk for miles and hardly see anyone and enjoy nature and birdwatching this is a great place for you to stay. The hot tub was a nice extra luxury that we paid for for three days during our stay.

A perfect place only issue was the double bed and quilt to small Cleaniness was outstanding and accommodation was perfect apart from the one issue which did not spoil our break

The property was as described in the most fantastic spot.

Clearly the property is well used and as such has become in need of a little cosmetic maintenance. The kitchen particularly the appliances require looking at, squeaking floorboards in the upstairs bedrooms, toilet seats were loose, the leather sofa seats had all collapsed and weren’t comfy in the lounge. Pillows weren’t great in the bedrooms, door onto the garden was still and needs adjusting……there are a lot of other minor things that are easy fixes to make this property fantastic

Location was ideal & as portrayed but the accommodation was rundown and basic with no frills.

The hot tub was extra and paid for with the booking but it did not reach correct temperature for over 24 hours so although paid for 3 days hire of hot tub use was actually only one evening and early morning. Advertised as dog friendly but not even a dog drinking dish provided. We arrived at 3.35 and were informed by a male who refused to identify himself that we could use the public beach until 4pm exactly.

The cottage location was excellent straight onto the beach!

Ideal for walking our dog. Coastal views & path to Bamburgh & beyond. Spacious & roomy accommodation with more facilities than we needed. The maintenance team were quick to respond to a couple of minor issues. Would definitely stay again!

We continue to return to these cottages as an ideal location to base ourselves from.

They are well equipped, quiet due to the time of year we visit, and ideal to spend time in. Additionally, other neighbours have dogs and are of the same attitude. We thoroughly enjoy ourselves here and will return.

Fantastic location, property was lacking nothing.

The property was excellent location, breathtaking views across Budle Bay.

The accommodation was clean and well equipped to cater for all the occasions you could think of. Being only a ten minute drive from the A1 it is a great place to base your stay for those that like to adventure out to other places. But seriously, you could just stay and chill all week here.

The Cottage is literally right on The Beach - very very spacious and three bathrooms to boot (wow).The view of Holy Island could not be beaten,very quiet and secluded just what we wanted.
