“Very nice comfortable cottage close to the centre of Allendale enjoying a pleasant view from the back over a field, having stayed in this cottage before, the new larger TV is a welcome addition and completes the requirements as this was the one comment renters made before.”

We love the area and go once or twice a year to enjoy the queit rods, charming scenery, lovely small towns and of course Hadrians wall, I can recomend the Allendale tea rooms small cafe in the centre, their breakfast is a proper full English, with fried bread on offer too. We love the area and go once or twice a year to enjoy the queit rods, charming scenery, lovely small towns and of course Hadrians wall, I can recomend the Allendale tea rooms small cafe in the centre, their breakfast is a proper full English, with fried bread on offer too. Hexham and Corbidge are well worth visiting and eating at The Sill is highly recomended, the drive from Hexham to Blanchland is spectacular and the White Monk refectory tea room has a choice of 20 differnt cakes, but in my opinion, their home made pies are the real winners, corned beef for those who can enjoy it and Christmas pie for those needing a nostalgic meal, this pie has turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets and carrot swede mash, with roasts and sprouts on the side, what more could you ask for.

About the location

ALLENDALE

Hexham 11 miles; Allenheads 8 miles; Newcastle 34 miles.

The town of Allendale was once the centre of a busy lead mining area, and many relics of the mining era remain around the area. Allendale is ideally placed for access to Carlisle and Lake District to the west, Hexham, Newcastle and Durham to the east and the Hadrian's Wall just to the north, as well as the Scottish Borders. There are lots of walks, cycling opportunities and unspoilt villages in the surrounding North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding countryside or travelling further north to the glorious Heritage Coastline. Allendale is home to the New Year tradition of Tar Bar'ls well worthing seeing or visit in the autumn to visit the Allen Valleys Folk Festival. Furthermore Allendale is a popular stay for cyclists carrying out the Coast to Coast.
