The property

Middle Cottage is a well-presented cottage set within the historic market town of Alnwick, Northumberland, offering an appealing base for friends or two couples looking to stay close to Northumberland National Park and local amenities.

With roadside parking nearby, guests arrive at this listed terrace positioned right in the heart of the town, where its traditional frontage sits comfortably among neighbouring properties and reflects the character of its surroundings.

Entering through the front door, you step into a hallway that immediately sets a stylish tone, providing a practical place to remove coats and walking boots before moving through to the main living space.

The living and dining room is arranged around a fireplace, where a woodburning stove framed by exposed brick creates a welcoming setting for evenings spent relaxing after days outdoors, while the dining table offers a natural place for shared meals, leisurely breakfasts, or conversation over a glass of something chilled.

Sash windows appear throughout the cottage, allowing natural light to flow through the rooms and reinforcing its traditional character.

The kitchen sits close by and quickly becomes part of everyday routines, with mornings beginning as the kettle warms and later hours given over to preparing relaxed suppers using local produce, the oven, dishwasher and a washer/dryer all lending themselves to easy, unhurried living, while daylight filters in from a lantern-style ceiling window as you move between the worktops and sink.

From the hallway, carpeted stairs lead upstairs to the bedrooms, where a king-size room offers a restful retreat at the end of the day and a double bedroom provides an equally inviting space for a second couple or friends.

On the ground floor, the shower room is finished with sleek tiles that reflect light from a ceiling window, creating a fresh space to begin the day or unwind after long walks across countryside or along the coast.

To the rear, an enclosed yard with decking and stone walls offers a sheltered spot to enjoy a morning coffee or a quiet drink as the day draws to a close, while from the front door, shops and pubs are within easy walking distance and a nearby river provides an appealing option for gentle strolls close to home.

Alnwick itself makes an excellent base for exploring Northumberland, from the rolling landscapes and wide skies of Northumberland National Park to the grand interiors, battlements, and gardens of Alnwick Castle, while the coast at Bamburgh offers expansive sands, dramatic castle views, and invigorating sea air, all within easy reach of Middle Cottage, a characterful base perfectly placed for discovering the region.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike; for even more excitement, the enchanted world of Lilidorei is also available at Alnwick Gardens, offering seasonal events and plenty of fun for little ones of your group. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
