“We have stayed at the Chimney twice before but this stay was very different.”

When we arrived on the first day we found there was no key in the key box. Being after office hours and I had hardly any phone signal it took quite some time to contact someone in Sykes head office which was only done by a helpful neighbour with a working phone. But the man in Sykes contacted a lady from NCCC (Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages) Seahouses who was at home. She phoned me to say she would collect the spare key from her office and would bring it to us. This she did and we were most grateful. Having waited about 2 hours to gain entry NCCC agreed that we could have an extra two hours for checking out on the following Friday. The second problem was not having a working internet service which there should have been. This was important not least because one of our group had an online course to complete on two days. Some of us also had intermittent work related issues. On the Saturday morning after arriving Katie from NCCC phoned to apologise for the missing key issue and I mentioned the internet problem (and a bathroom door lock which didn’t work). She arranged for a NCCC maintenance man to come that morning to fix the lock (which he did) and to look at the wi-fi problem. He concluded that the problem was not something he could fix and would need the intervention of the internet supplier. To cut a long story short after several visits by the internet company staff the problem was finally resolved on the Wednesday or Thursday after arriving. It was a fault in the supply to the property. The internet connection was unavailable for much of our stay and was not restored until later in the week. So quite eventful week but I must record how attentive and helpful the NCCC staff were, Katy in particular. She understood the problem and didn’t rest until it was fixed. Very impressed with the support we were given.

Dear Dr Givens and guests, We offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience during your stay. We were in constant contact with Katy too who we agree was doing her upmost to help. We spent hours on the phone to the WiFi provider who I won’t mention but we were equally frustrated and disappointed with before they eventually sent an engineer out. Apologies for the key mix up too. We would love to welcome you back and to make up for the inconvenience you have had.We hope you still managed to enjoy your holiday. Sincere apologies Property Owner

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
