“Farne Cottage was great.”

It was clean, the beds were comfy and the accommodation spacious and in a fabulous location. The only feedback I would have is that the kitchen cupboards could do with a bit of a streamline of all the random pots and glasses etc, freeing up some space for guests to put their groceries. Secondly the amazing view from the main bedroom window was slightly ruined due to the amount of pigeon poo that was built up on the balcony rail and all down the windows. There seemed to be an issue with the ...

It was clean, the beds were comfy and the accommodation spacious and in a fabulous location. Secondly the amazing view from the main bedroom window was slightly ruined due to the amount of pigeon poo that was built up on the balcony rail and all down the windows. There seemed to be an issue with the pigeons as again, the view from the main bedroom bathroom was that of pigeon poo everywhere. This did not affect our holiday but thought it would be only fair to feed this back.

Thank you for your feedback. I will rearrange the glasses and crockery to avail more space. The cupboard above the microwave was empty. The poo you mentioned on the windows and was from the house martins nesting in the eaves. These summer visitors young have now fledged and left their nest. All traces of their occupancy has been removed. Having had such a dry summer has meant it hasn't been washed away by the rain and the cleaners don't always have time to do the outside. The view from the small bathroom window is of next door and I can mention it to their maintenance team but it is beyond my control. Property Owner

“The house was perfect for our family.”

Very clean, and everything you could want in the kitchen. However, we found little cupboard space for our own things. The beds were a little uncomfortable, but maybe that was just our opinion, really not a problem. Parking for 1 vehicle on the drive, but plenty on the other side of the road Overall very happy

“Farne Cottage was perfect for our group of 7 adults and 2 dogs.”

It was very clean and well equipped and had a much appreciated welcome pack. It was in a wonderful location and I would have no hesitation in recommending this house to future guests and would happily stay again. Just a couple of points to inform future guests.... We parked 2 of our cars on the grass verge opposite the house as the drive is probably only big enough for 1 large car. Bring your own hand soap for the bathrooms,

Thank you for your feedback. We have had 2 Landrovers on the drive but understand it is a llittle daunting if you are not used to it. There are no restrictions to parking on the grass verge opposite. There should have been liquid hand soaps in all the bathrooms. I'll chase that up. Property Owner

Layout of the house was great. Garden very secure for the dogs. Plenty of parking and a great position for lots of walks along the beaches. Unfortunately the main waste bin had not been emptied the previous week so we had nowhere to put any rubbish.

Very pleased to hear you had a great stay. I know you are a returning guest and we really appreciate you. I absolutely agree with you on the waste bin situation. We arrived after your stay and it was clear the general waste hadn't been emptied. There is a sign in the kitchen informing guests that the bins are emptied very early Thursday morning and the bin has to be roadside Wednesday night. I will arrange with our agents that should the bins be full on Fridays that they arrange for them to be emptied. Property Owner

“Overall we found the property had everything that we needed from location to amenities in the cottage itself.”

One small issue is that the twin bedroom does need wardrobe space especially families like ours have teenage members. Everything else was just fine and we had a really enjoyable holiday using the cottage as a base.

“A fabulous comfortable well equipped house with amazing views.”

Nothing was missing . We were 6 adults and 3 small dogs, everyone was very relaxed. The enclosed garden and astroturf was brilliant , much less mud brought in when it rained , carefully placed rugs everywhere, easy wipe wooden floors, very practical for dogs. My only niggles were outside doors were swollen , difficult to open , and the windows were dirty , both due to the beachside location of course . Would highly recommend this property and we hope to visit again .

“We had a fantastic stay in Farne cottage.”

It is situated in a perfect spot to go for long walks on beautiful beaches in a gorgeous village and you can walk to the nearby pub, The Craster Arms for the most amazing meals. The views from the house are stunning as you are overlooking the sea. The house was really clean and well equipped. We would definitely book this accommodation again.

So pleased you and your dogs enjoyed your stay. We have a policy to allow 4 dogs as we find dog owners very careful to clear up after their dogs. Beadnell and the area is doggy paradise with dogs allowed in many of the Pubs. Should a dog (or child!) get extra sandy or muddy there is always the shower in the bootroom. Property Owner

“Great location.”

Nice house with good layout of living space & bedrooms. Comfortable for family holilday. The house had a definate end of season feel - kitchen cupboards had not been cleaned inside, floors were dirty in places, drains in the bathrooms were very slow draining as full of debris & so was dishwasher drain. The artificial grass is unhygienic & unsightly. Surely the small area could be planted & cared for during the growing season for minimal cost.

Saddened at your comments as Farne Cottage is a much loved property. The settees are new, as are the fridge freezer and washing dryer. Astro turf is a marmite thing I suppose. It is hygienic in the fact you can use products to keep it clean, we use eco friendly products to this extent. Also it prevents mud being walked into the house when it has been raining. Comments were passed on to the cleaners and this must have been redressed as we have had excellent feedback since. Property Owner

“Well what can we say, what a beautiful property in a stunning location.”

It smelt very clean when we walked in, and a lovely little welcome pack was an added bonus. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be returning. The only thing I would say was because the property is so stunning people walking past look in, so maybe some blinds downstairs and in the main bedroom would be good, but this doesn't detract from a great week away with the family. The settee was extremely comfy and the kitchen had everything you would need.

“A brilliant house with lots of accomodation that is super handy for the beaches of Beadnell.”

Definitely worth taking some ear plugs if you are in the front bedrooms as the road is quite busy early mornings but this is the trade off for being so close to the beaches. The house is well equipped with everything you will need for a comfortable stay.

“We visited as a family of 8 and 3 dogs and found this property to be perfect for all of us.”

There is plenty of room not be on top of each other. The house was very clean and very comfortable and all the bedrooms are great sizes. We had great times sat at the dining table playing games on an evening. The rear garden is very dog friendly and secure and the artificial grass area is great. There is plenty of parking space across from the house if you have large cars. The only small negative is that the fridge/freezer is quite small and wasn't very cold so had to shop quite often. It's in the fantastic location with beaches, pubs, cafes and a local shop only a short walk away. We would highly recommend this property.

“We booked from the 15th-19th April 25.”

We found the property, clean, airy, and well presented. A short walk to Beadnell beach and a short drive to Seahouses. Enclosed garden was ideal for the dogs. The artificial grass was a great touch. 4 large bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all the equipment needed to cook meals for us all. Shower and bathrooms were ideal. Plenty af towels provided. We had a fantastic time for our first visit to Northumberland and this Sykes cottage made to stay more memorable for all the right reasons. We would certainly look to book again and would recommend this property without hesitation. Thanks, Stu, Jo and family.

“I had to weed the fake grass before we could use it.”

The parking space was inadequate for 2 cars. The downstairs furniture was old and tired with uncomfortable sofa and chairs and a sticky table that place mats stuck to. The welcome pack was paltry for 8 people.

The artificial grass is treated with an organic weedkiller as we wouldn't want guests, their children or their dogs to come into contact with harsh chemicals. This treatment went down 21 June and is supposed to last 8 weeks but obviously Nature will have her way. The parking spaces immediately outside the front door have accommodated 2 Landrover Discoveries and there are no yellow lines outside the property and the parking on the grass verge immediately opposite. We have had 4 cars parked up without a problem. Most of the furniture is from Barker & Stonehouse purchased new in 2016, the sofa is distressed leather. A sticky (solid inlaid wood) table is easily wiped down. The welcome pack is standard Sykes - it is meant to tide you over until you provide your own goods and groceries as this is a self catering property. There is a contact number in the welcome book if you found the property to be so unpleasant you could have asked to be relocated. Property Owner

Short walk to the beach which is well suited again for the dog,s. Good base to plan days out and about,we were a group family of seven plus 3 Dog,s all very pleased with our stay, Down stairs loo which was a blessing for the 92yr old father inlaw. Would book again if a larger group family visit.

“This is a nice property in a beautiful setting and it met the requirements for our family holiday.”

The accommodation was comfortable and well appointed. However, it does feel like it is lacking in some TLC. There were multiple weeds growing through the artificial grass, the top drawer in the bedside cabinet of the twin room was full of rubbish, the plinth near the kettle has never been repaired. If we’d have paid half the price, we might not have worried, but it felt like a premium price, for a not so premium product. We were without hot water for 36 hours, however, when the repair man arrived he was amazing. Knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it very quickly and efficiently. Overall, it was a lovely stay, but I think it needs to be given a bit more love if the owners carry on charging these prices.

“The cottage location and layout is lovely.”

The facilities are also good. The bedrooms are large and spacious. The back garden is fully enclosed and good for dogs. There are lots of beautiful beaches nearby. Beadnell is lovely for beach walks. The house has fabulous views of the sea. Attention is needed to the soft furnishings in the house, they are dirty and stained. The cushions on the settee, the cushion on the bench in the utility and the curtains in the main bedroom all need cleaning. In addition the carpets upstairs need cleaning. Thanks

Thank you for bringing our attention your problems with our holiday home. The curtains are, as I type, being dry cleaned. They are full length opening onto a bifolding door and a sliding door which means they are in contact in and out of the property with our guests and sometimes the weather if the door is not closed properly. Soft furnishings are cleaned regularly the cushion covers are at least every 2 months more if necessary. This is a holiday home and, we cannot dictate that our guests have to enter and exist via the bootroom to avoid sand and mud on their boots. This is dealt with by the cleaners. The bespoke cover on the bench has a couple of marks that despite several cleans have not come out. They are less than 2 inches. The mat in front of the front door was brand new 7th January 2023. The carpets and rugs were last cleaned 14th January 2023. We found only one stain on the carpets in the main bedroom. This is if you like an acceptable occurrence. Sometimes our guests have spills like anyone in their homes. The cleaners do their best and do a grand job. If you found our property unacceptable you should have contacted NC&CC and asked to be relocated. Property Owner

The cottage was big so we didn’t feel overcrowded it had everything we needed was very clean and warm. A great area too and the views were fantastic from the cottage. We will definitely return again.

The cottage provided everything we needed. The cottage was spotless when we arrived. We've never been to Beadnell before, it was a lovely village and very close to a lot of places. We took our dogs to the beach at Beadnell and they loved it. We will definitely return.

About the location

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
