“This is the 3rd time we've stayed in this cottage.”

To be honest it's the location and view that keeps us coming back. As others have said before the beds and sofa are far from comfortable. This time I was also disappointed with the lack of toiletries. We were there for two weeks and had to top up with loo rolls and hand soaps after just one week, and it was just the two of us staying. It felt a bit stingy considering what it costs to stay at these places these days.

“Great position but parking was a bit tight for our car.”

Really enjoyed the house especially being able to sit down and still see out over the water. All very comfortable. The television needs updating we could not get all the Freeview channels and the sound quality even with the sound bar was very poor

Thanks for your visit Alan. TV is new Smart LG and all usual apps are available including BBC, ITV, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. Soundbar is BOSE and sounds great so not sure if you had it on? Perhaps playing the TV sound. It fits snuggly in the recess with a pull out arm so can be viewed in multiple positions. However, I have noted your comment and also had a couple of others so will look into getting a bigger screen although it will mean a fixed position. Property Owner

“Location of the cottage is unrivalled right on the harbour front.”

The facilities were as described, a fairly new kitchen and bathroom were easy to use and clean. The addition of a downstairs toilet was great. Parking is off road and a bit tricky to navigate but was a big bonus. The sofa in the lounge is far too low and this has been noted multiple times by previous guests. The beds were very uncomfortable with cheapest mattresses which spoiled the stay if we were completely honest its what would stop us recommending this cottage to friends or family Sadly there was a vermin infestation along the front of the terrace of cottages and under the patio during our stay so we were unable to leave doors open and did see them during the daytime whish was off putting. We did report this and hopefully it will be addressed.

hi Julie, Thanks for your visit. The sofa being low comments are old comments before we added extra large additional seat cushions which have significantly raised the sofa. It is a fairly new LOAF Crumpet sofa with multiple foot stool options which we find comfortable. Beds are noted and on the list to renew. They were not cheap mattresses, just time to renew. Thanks for notifying NCCC re: siting of a rat in the gardens. We are in a wild area with diverse wildlife and a huge number of birds which can attract them if people feed them. All neighbours were alerted and we put down a series of traps as well as notices clearly informing people not to feed the birds, as per your suggestion. Property Owner

“Lovely cottage with fabulous view.”

Cottage roomy and bedrooms comfortable. Previous guests mention the sofa. It is very low, soft and more of a recliner. We could not fault the facilities and there was plenty of information available for days out. Not sure that it is dog friendly. Dogs are not allowed upstairs, on the furniture and there is no secure outside space, so our dog was on lead for all outside visits (I.e. first thing the morning til midnight, which was a problem in the dark and rain). All in all we would recommend this cottage.

“We had a lovely stay at old coastguards cottage.”

Amble is a place where we know well, as my sister lives there. Lots of things to do and would recomend, the puffin boat trip to coquet island. lots of places to eat, and some lovely walks which i did every day. warkworth, druridge bay, alnmouth, and warkworth beach, all fantastic. Or relax in the garden and look at the lovely views. we were luck with the lovely weather also. My apologies we did not sign the guest book, compleately forgot. thanks, alan

“Brilliant location with stunning views.”

The cottage had everything you could need in terms of facilities and equipment. Unfortunately though we found both the bed and the sofa extremely uncomfortable. Apart from the kitchen and bathroom which were quite modern, the furniture and decor needs updating (and a bigger TV!). It was also quite dusty and a little grubby in places. We also didn't find it 'dog friendly'. Just be aware if you are taking your dog like we did, they aren't allowed upstairs and there is no secure outside space for them.

“I left a lot of Detail in the visitors book.”

I thought the cottage was in a very special place. Very good central heating. Very good hot water. Very good dishes for cooking and baking trays. Very clean. The cutlery may need updating but it was not a problem to me, the mattress was very comfortable. The view unbelievable would love to return but can see it is booked up until the end of 2028. The curtain rail was quite brittle and it came away from its fixings on the one end. I tied it up with some string and let you know about it at the time. I was very impressed that someone would have come to fix it the next day. Beautiful beaches, everybody very friendly lovely places to eat would love to return.

The position of the home is ideal, right by the harbour and can see and hear the sea continuously. However you are a short stroll to the town which has everything you need. There is a very well equipped kitchen. Good heating and the shower is also very good. Guidebook and information, personally written and captures not only all the important details you need but tells you a little of the owners and their families connection to the home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you

“What an absolutely amazing property.”

Stayed in many a holiday cottage and this was up there with the very best- a real home from home. Clearly dearly loved by the owner and so well equipped, cosy and comfortable. The owner is incredibly helpful and kindly left instructions on how to use the new oven for us to roast our Christmas turkey. We spent a lovely week enjoying the local area and coming home after exploring to cosy comfort was just wonderful. Finally, the view from the cottage is breath taking and we spent many an hour just sitting and looking….. blissful

It felt like a family home. We enjoyed fantastic views of the seashore, sunsets were spectacular and the town and harbour an easy walk.The only thing that was a problem was the very low settee which was uncomfortable and very difficult to get up from but I know the owners are aware of this and will be addressing this. Well equipped, everything u could ever need or wish for has been provided . We enjoyed our stay here so much that we extended our stay by 2 days ! Within walking distance of Amble which has a variety of shops , restaurants , pubs and cafes . Fresh fish straight from the trawler is available to buy from Alliance fish situated on the quay side . We would book this accommodation again .

“Our 2nd stay at Coastguard cottage in a January.”

When we were there in Jan 24 we loved it so much we booked for this year. Really warm and cosy, the views are stunning so even if it rains you can have fantastic sea views in the dry. The cottage has a really well equipped kitchen, nothing we were short of. Bathroom and shower perfect. The top bedroom as well as having the picture window also has a velux one so you can see the night sky. The bed is enormous and comy. The only downside I can say is the sofa is really low so we didn't use it. This was because we are older with painful joints we couldn't get up from it.

“Lovely spacious house in a great position for everything in Amble.”

Beds, bedding and towels were all superb. Only gripe is that the seating in the lounge is not comfortable and so difficult to get up from. A 2nd tv, in a bedroom, would be nice. Views and balcony are stunning. Amble is very quiet and has nice, easy walks for oap's like us, who don't have a car, and is near to many beaches and castles if you have a car.

“Arrived last January, freezing cold, heating not on.”

Eventually heating engineer told us to keep pressing the booster button. Issues with cleanliness and comfort. In kitchen dog hairs on chopping board, dried food on work surfaces and the utility room was grubby (wrote clean in the dust). Uncomfortable old settee and red chair, table top wobbled and dining seats creaked. Good location , great view, comfortable bed, nice bathroom but scum mark around bath. Could not park car in short drive making loading car difficult. An oddity owner kept their food in freezer reducing capacity for guests by a third

“What a fantastic cottage to stay at for comfort, views and totally relaxing winter break.”

There were 4 of us staying and our dog, so many walks along the beach, pier and breakwater just because we could from the cottage as well as many trips to favourite beaches nearby. The views were just stunning, we have stayed often at Amble over the years even one further down bay view terrace but none as well equipped and picture postcard proximity to the beach. So booked again for same time next year, can't wait.

Plenty of crockery, but nearly all the mugs were cracked or chipped as well as a couple of plates. Patio windows very draughty which made it chilly whilst admiring the beautiful view. Despite these comments, we have booked to visit again next year.

“Lovely property , really clean and love the update since my last visit.”

So nice to have laminate lounge flooring , easier to keep clean with sand from the beach etc Love the new bathroom too ! Had a couple of issues with fridge freezer , internal light only worked periodically and had a big issue when it got accidentally turned off at the mains (assuming someone knocked it off reaching for a coat as it's hidden behind the coat rail) - took me an hour of searching to find the switch , maybe a suggestion to label it "fridge" Other than that , perfect holiday home , my favourite place to bring the children

“What a view from the patio and the top floor bedroom.”

The cottage was comfortable and in an ideal place for exploring the area. Loved sitting on the patio and watching the paddle boarders trying to stand up, also an unexpected surprise were the dolphins performing just out of the harbour. I would recommend any one staying in the area to take a look at this cottage.

Very comfortable accommodation. There is everything you need to make it a totally stress free break. There is a great coastal path of approx 3 miles to Warkworth Castle which is well worth a look. Overall we were well satisfied with our stay 10/10

“A great place to stay, especially if you have a dog as Amble is VERY dog friendly and you are 2 minutes away from letting your dog off the lead for a good walk.”

Although the property is well furnished etc. we had a few problems. The pressure on the boiler was lost resulting in no heating or hot water and we couldn't find the manual telling us how to fix it. To cut a long story short Maintenance got a plumber round the next day and it was a good job we were in when he came as he fixed it within 5 minutes but showed us what to do as the pressure went again 3 days later .Also the wash powder drawer needs a pair of pliers to open it and I still don't know how to open the tumble drier! The new bathroom is superb-new photos should be taken and the views are fantastic-we would definitely stay there again.

The property

Old Coastguard Cottages was built in 1896 and is superbly located overlooking a small bay and harbour.

With the view changing constantly you can spend many relaxing hours just watching Amble life, including the fishing boats.

Well equipped to a high standard, the property is ideal for anyone wishing to spend time taking in the views, watching birds and exploring this beautiful stretch of coastline.

Visitors can walk along the dunes and beaches directly from the house. GROUND FLOOR Living/dining room with large picture windows, sea views, multi-fuel stove, TV/DVD and Hi-Fi. Kitchen with gas hob and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Cloakroom with WC, basin, washing machine and tumble dryer. FIRST FLOOR Bedroom 1 with ¾ bed (large single) and sea views. Bedroom 2 with double bed. Bathroom with bath, shower, WC and basin. SECOND FLOOR Bedroom 3 large studio style with king size bed, basin and CD/radio player. OTHER FACILITIES Patio and grassed sloping down to sea with steps.

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
