Rose Cottage

We had a lovely stay here, quiet, cosy.

We loved watching the rabbits in the garden in the evening, using the swimming pool and sauna, having a game of pool. Was everything we needed it to be and close for days out exploring.

Akeld is a wonderful place to base yourself, having never been to Northumberland, I found it well positioned to explore the area.

We were very lucky with the weather, very little rain and never freezing. The cottage is small, but everything you could ever wish for is included there, obviously bar toiletries. If there is a downside it’s that there is only a bath, no shower, however they are going through them all, modernising, so Rose Cottage will be done very soon I’m sure. The pool etc was not open during our visit, but March is hardly in the season so that’s to be expected. Cottage was clean and warm, I’d taken blankets based on previous reviews, but really did not need them. It was dark when we arrived, it’s not the easiest to find if you don’t know where you’re going so I’d recommend getting there during daylight hours. Local pubs are all good ( Wooler ) with the Lady Muck doing an amazing Sunday Lunch. Berwick Upon Tweed is lovely and the beach there Spittal, is a bit of a local secret that is worth visiting, the chip shop there isn’t the greatest though ( a chippy with only frozen breaded fish!) Bamborugh Castle is fabulous, you can only take dogs into the grounds of the castle, but seriously that’s enough, it’s pretty fabulous. Wooler also has little cafes and antique shops. I really would recommend this little patch of England and we shall definitely return. Nearly forgot, but must say, the staff in the Cheviot Goat (pub on site) and around the grounds were just the most helpful and lovely. I truly can’t fault it !

We were really happy with Rose Cottage as it was clean, cosy and comfortable with every amenity we needed.

It was in a stunning location with footpaths straight from the door! Yeavering Bell conquered twice now! The new Cheviot Goat Bar is a fantastic bonus; our host there was a wonderfully friendly gentleman, thank you! We felt that all our needs had been thought about and reception was always available to us. Being able to walk our dogs around the complex and see the starry skies was lovely.

Lovely cottage comfortable and clean in a nice position, garden great for the dog and the location great for walks.

Just returned from a lovely 3 night stay in Rose Cottage.

Everything was perfect, very comfortable and lots of information to hand. What a gem in the most beautiful countryside. Will definitely return.

Rose Cottage was a perfect setting for our holiday in Northumberland.

It was clean, the beds were comfortable and all the necessary facilities / household goods were provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rose Cottage.

We have had many cottages over the years and this one, by far, was the best value for money and its location in the wood surrounded by wildlife and bird song was fantastic.

Its location at the foot of the Cheviots was perfection for us and the footpath into the hills running past the property was an added bonus. The cottage was comfortable and we felt at home. The surrounding area was full of castles, beaches and history. Thank you for the wine, card and info folder as this was appreciated. We are booking again for next year. Highly recommended.

Idyllic beautiful property. Clean, comfortable and everything we needed. Set in gorgeous grounds. Great location too, 30 mins in car to bamburgh. Can I move in?! We took our doggy as this is dog friendly cottage. We had an amazing time, highly recommended.

This lovely property is more a home from home than a holiday cottage.

The main room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom are all separate from each other. It's especially nice not to have the kitchen where we eat and relax in the evening. A beautiful garden in the back which catches the sun for most of the day, and is a really nice place to eat. There is a gate that leads to a walk that goes up the Cheviots. Very peaceful. Only a couple of miles from Wooler and some small shops. This is, by far, the best cottage we have stayed in for a long time. Highly Recommended.

The cottage was tired in places and we had an issue with the loft hatch, which was quickly resolved , we had a relaxing time thank you

felt very cosy and I had a very pleasant stay. Any problems (like low batteries remote) was swiftly dealt with. I wish I could take this cottage home and put it in a similar quiet surroundings as this was.

A working shower would be great Also set times for night store heating seemed to be wrong as 3.

Very enjoyable holiday.

Lovely cottage in a wonderful area of the country. Combines special coastline nearby and towns; we visited Alnwick, Kelso and Wooler itself. Our border collie especially liked Wooler Common. Hope to come again soon.

The cottage was clean and warm.

However, the headboards on the beds were loose and banged about a bit especially if you were trying to read. We couldn't tighten the screws as the thread was worn out. The lighting throughout the cottage was poor. I struggled to read in the living room because the lamp was not in a convenient position for the seating. And, as the room had limited natural light, we needed the lights all the time. Worst of all I would say was the bathroom. Although it matched what was specified in the description we never expected a handheld spray as a way to take a shower. This did not work, if you put the spray above the height of the bath taps water shot out like a fountain. whilst pretty it was not functional. I can no longer get out of a bath easily and had expected a fixed shower over a bath so this was very disappointing. The environment was very quiet and kept clean.

We have had several cottages with Sykes but this is the only one where there was no welcome food pack nor a collection of brochures on local attractions.

There was no information about local services in case of medical emergency. There was no proper shower just a very old fashioned rubber hose. The cottage was in a peaceful location so ideal for a quiet holiday, but we would hesitate to recommend this prorerty to other people.

The traditional cosy cottage was nestled on the north side of the Cheviots with a footpath into the hills straight outside the door.

Wild goats and rabbits abound. It was a lovely peaceful place to stay and perfectly located to explore the border countryside.

Rose Cottage was an ideal place to stay.

It was very comfortable and furnished with everything we could possibly need. The location was quiet and peaceful but easily within reach of local attractions. We would definitely stay there again.

Cottage was nice and cosy, kitchen was small but well equipped. Like previous visitors we would have preferred a shower cubicle, as getting into bath slightly difficult at our age!

The property was very enjoyable, just as it was advertised very cosy for two adults.

The only problem we had was getting in & out of the bath in the bathroom, we are pensioners so was a bit difficult for use. We could only say would it be better with a shower unit? But apart from this we will be happy to stay again at your lovely cottages in the lovely locations. Many Thanks for a lovely vacation with you.

Rose cottage is a great place, basic, but it has everything you need, which i knew when i arrived, and the wildlife around was fabulous.

The village of wooler nearby is good, with pubs and facilities.

It was an extremely mean offering.

The kitchen was absolutely bare. No salt or pepper, no tea, coffee , sugar or milk. They didn’t even provide a scourer to clean the saucepans. 1 toilet roll was provided for the entire week. No soap provided for hand washing. We travelled from Australia and we noted on the listing that you have to provide your own towels, so we requested that they would make an exception and supply us some towels at an additional cost, and they did not bother to reply. All the bad stuff said. On the positive side, the cottage was absolutely charming, in a wonderful location, it is a pity that with a little additional effort it could be a five star holiday cottage.

A very pretty cottage in an ideal central location for visiting Northumberland attractions and the National Park.

Stunning wildlife and countryside views. Cottage was clean, comfortable and had everything you could need. Though the furniture and decor seemed rather tired and dated, ultimately this wasn't as important as being clean and tidy, which it was. We were disappointed to discover one of the other cottages had a swimming pool which someone else staying said we ought to have been entitled to use. This wasn't mentioned in the info. Perhaps it would have been nice to have access? Anyway, all in all a lovely stay. Thank you.

Rose cottage was more than we expected, it is clean and comfortable with constant hot water and heating and we enjoyed the gardens and the wild life we saw there, we will certainly go again, thank you Nada and Bob

We felt that the Description that it was a Cottage for TWO people was taken too literally - two of everything - which meant that we spent a lot of our holiday time washing up!

! A little more generosity in terms of crockery and cutlery would have been welcome. The bedroom could have done with an extra chair. The placing of the toilet roll holder was most awkward. Otherwise it was lovely and warm and dry

The cottage requires updating in both the kitchen and barthroom and instructions for both cooker and microwave would have been usefull.

The cottage location is stunning, and is beautiful externally.

Inside when we arrived the cottage smelt so bad we nearly didn’t stay. The furniture and decor are very dated. There were dead flies in the net curtains. The 2 armchairs felt damp when sitting on them so we had to sit on towels. The smell was nauseous. We were extremely tired after a very long drive from Lincolnshire and went to bed. This actually was the saving grace. We both slept extremely well so probably felt less upset when we awoke. We drove into Wooler and purchased air freshener and bleach from the coop. The smell started to get better (or we were getting used to it). The location is perfect for visiting the rest of Northumberland and on our return on an evening we sat in the garden listening to the wildlife and nature. Kate was lovely and friendly so we didn’t complain to her, nothing could be done and it wasn’t because of anything she hadn’t done that we felt like we did. If the cottage was updated we would be back in a heartbeat. I would recommend the setting, cottages etc but the inside does let itself down I’m afraid.

A fantastic location, very quiet and comfortable.

The house was lovely, but it would have been nice to have a little more info about e.g how to work the cooker, what time we needed to vacate etc, the only info we had was on where to leave bins. It would have been good to have some tourist brochures etc as we have had in previous cottages, there was lots to do, but not always well advertised, we were very glad to have brought our own OS map walk and guide book, as no internet reception (this was not otherwise a problem, and was indicated on the website). Some hooks for coats would also have been good, as it does often rain in Britain! The walks from the cottage were amazing, it would be a shame for future visitors to miss out if they did not have a map.

A beautiful peaceful cottage surrounded by fields and woodland.

Everything you need for a very relaxing holiday. Not full marks on comfort as would have been good to have a foot rest as there are only arm chairs no sofa. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this little wildlife haven and would definitely go back.
