Charter's Cottage

The cottage is in a very convenient location for both the town and the railway station.

It is tucked away in a quiet and cobbled courtyard which is quite special. The cottage is nicely proportioned, serenely quiet, comfortable, has good style and great atmosphere. Here are a few things that needed to be fixed: 1. The shower tray had lots of horrible black mould all around the edges. I spent quite a lot of time removing that and on departure you will have found it was about as clean as it could be. However, the black mould has caused damage to the silicone seal and it will need to be resealed to avoid dampness in the ceiling below, which could put the general structure of the cottage at risk. 2. One of the chairs in the living room needs to be repaired. One of the joints connecting the seat frame to a front leg has failed. I can see that an attempt to fix it has been made in the past but it wasn't glued properly. Specifically, the glue wasn't applied correctly and the quality of the glue wasn't of the required standard. 3. There were no toilet rolls on arrival and we had to go shopping urgently to remedy the situation. 4. There was no shower gel. Apart from that, everything was fine, thanks, though personally I'm not a fan of hollowfibre quilts and pillows and would prefer natural fillings.

I enjoyed my stay in this well appointed holiday accommodation.

Everything had been thought through with a view to helping holiday makers feel welcome as well as comfortable. I appreciated the deep sense of quiet at all times with hardly any sound of traffic even though the property is situated in a town. It is a short walk to the centre of Berwick and there are some interesting independent shops there as well as several places to have coffee and / or eat. I travelled to Berwick by train and used a good local taxi company to get to Charter’s Cottage which is only a few minutes away, although the distance is walkable for some if not carrying too much luggage.

This is a snug and cosy cottage in a very quiet courtyard yet only minutes away from all amenities and the town's ramparts.

It suited us very well as we were using public transport for our travelling so it was very central and convenient.

Cosy and warm cottage, just a short walk from Berwick amenities.

Well-equipped and comfortable base to explore the area with everything working well and only minor inconsistencies with cleanliness. Parking can be a challenge but we did a few local walks from the doorstep which meant not having to move the car and on the other days, we were out for the day anyway so it had little impact. This is a great base from which to explore.

This is a lovely little house, tucked away from the main road down a little close.

There's no garden but the house sits in a quaint cobbled courtyard, that is super quiet. It is located just minutes away from the city walls and the town centre, which has plenty shops & cafes. The house itself was spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you would need. We were there late February and the rooms were warm and cozy. There's no bath, but the water pressure ensured the walk-in shower was effective and refreshing. The internet was solid and delivered good speeds. The parking permit, turned out to be handy, with only a couple of times I was unable to park in the street next to the property. (Just use the one up the street for 3 hours, till a space becomes available). Overall = Recommended.

Super cottage in a lovely central position in town.

On a cold, dark February evening it was comforting to walk into the warm and welcoming property. We stayed for 7 nights and found everything we required in that time. On street parking in the residents zones can be in short supply but we did eventually find a place up the road. Despite being told the upstairs windows would open, we couldn’t budge them. No biggie but might have helped airing the bathroom. If coming back to Berwick, we know where we would stay.

A comfortable, cosy and beautifully decorated cottage, well equipped and very well situated for access to Berwick and its many facilities.

Great location in the centre of Berwick Upon Tweed. We had an enjoyable week in October: daily walks along the pier, the walls and the beach (some very blustery and wild but great nonetheless!), a riverside walk in glorious sunshine; affording fabulous views of the bridges and viaduct, train ride to fabulous Edinburgh, visited the quaint villages of Ford & Etal, drove to Bamburgh and Eyemouth, ate some delicious meals - can particularly recommend The Cross Keys at Paxton (10min drive), and finished each evening with lovely cosy drinks at Curfew (microbrewery), Atelier and The Barrel. Would definitely recommend the cottage

My wife and I have stayed in Charter Cottage three times.

That says it all about the quality of the accommodation. Berwick has some good places to eat and some nice walks around the city walls and River Tweed, as well as a host of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area.

Overall excellent cottage and location.

Good for rail links to Edinburgh and Newcastle we did theses trips and found it very easy. Only downside was if you used your car frequently it was very difficult to find a parking space inside the residents parking area. But Overall excellent cottage and very enjoyable stay. Steve and Debbie.

Berwick is a pretty town with many walks, and a good base to visit the Northumberland coast.

Tastefully decorated, uncluttered and peaceful.

Ideal location for everything that Berwick has to offer. The planters at the entrance are a nice welcoming touch .

Our second, very enjoyable visit to Berwick. The only problem was that there was no parking disc or can opener in the cottage but we gratefully received them within two days of our arrival.

A beautiful cottage right in the middle of town but quiet and secluded.

We were warm and cosy and everything we could think of was provided. It was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Owners provided comprehensive instructions and suggestions which were most useful. Parking is an issue so be prepared to hunt around for a space if the residents spaces are taken.

Delightful cottage.

Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and set in a quiet courtyard so no road noise. A residents parking permit is provided and we were lucky enough to get a spot but it could potentially be problematic during peak times. Lovely walks along the river, the walls of the town and out to the lighthouse and the beach. Castles and bridges boat trip was interesting. Very easy to get to Edinburgh by train with the station a short ten minute walk from the cottage. Plenty of places to eat. Atelier, Audela and Mavi were all excellent. Would advise booking ahead. Coull’s fish and chips were good, as was Amran’s Indian. Would definitely recommend this property!

Charter’s cottage is delightful.

It was very comfortable and had all that we needed - a real home from home. Ideally situated in Berwick close to all amenities and attractions.

Berwick is a very good base for exploring Northumberland and south east Scotland. The owners’ communications were very good.

We had a lovely week’s stay at Charter’s cottage.

Would have given it a 5* rating for the “accuracy of the listing” but found the parking permit supplied, was for the public road outside the courtyard (we were under the impression parking was within the courtyard). It was difficult to say the least at times, to find somewhere to park within the ‘permit side’, or we had to keep moving the car after 2 hours on the “disc parking” side of the road. Other than this particular issue, the cottage was fabulous, best place we’ve ever stayed in.

Everything in the cottage was as it should be.

Sadly, this is not always the case with self catering accommodation. We had a very comfortable 3 nights there and would be happy to return to Charter's Cottage in the future.

The decor is lovely and we found the cottage both very clean and comfortable. It is ideally located for exploring Berwick and beyond. The courtyard is also a nice sun trap during the day. We appreciated the goodies left for us on arrival.

The property was well presented, and in a charming and quiet location.

It was clean and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen. There was a good clear information file with instructions re central heating, tv, WiFi etc, plus information about the parking, eating places and so forth. Really your every need was catered for.

Fantastic visit.

A real home from home. Everything I used worked and was well looked after. The cottage is centrally located and there was a welcome space with local produce. The emails before were useful in helping me find the cottage and what to do. I didn’t have a car so can’t comment on the parking but the bus and train were within walking distance. I also saw the dolphins from the pier on my final night!

I stayed here with my girlfriend as a surprise location as it's a train ride away to Edinburgh where she wanted to visit .

The train station is within walking distance so i seen this cottage and the cottage it's self I couldn't fault it , it has a smart TV comfy beds and sofa ideal for a few nights away we didn't use the kitchen because there a nice italian again walking distance I would recommend this cottage

The owners had thought of everything making it a real home from home. One of the nicest accommodation we have stayed in across the world.

A really lovely comfortable cottage in the heart of Berwick.

An amazing centre. We arrived by train and used the buses and trains to explore further afield. We even managed to watch a film at The Maltings just 5 minutes walk away..

Beautiful cottage with everything you could need, 2 minutes walk from the Main Street in Berwick and 5 minutes walk from the sea.

Lovely decor, comfortable bed and the hosts even contacted us when it was predicted to be cold weather to advise on the heating. Would highly recommend

The cottage is lovely and we were impressed by the generous, thoughtful welcome pack and the Christmas decorations which made the cottage memorably warm and welcoming.

We wanted to open our bedroom window for ventilation to deal with condensation in the damp weather but the bedroom window was stuck fast. There is black mould growing on the bedroom and bathroom window frames and the frames need to be cleaned thoroughly. We enjoyed our stay very much and would choose Charter's Cottage again if we return to Berwick.

Would highly recommend, cottage was highly furnished, spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Parking was a bit of an issue, permit supplied but if you couldn’t find a residence spot you had to use the parking disk and you could only stay 2 to 3 hours until you had to move your car. I wouldn’t let this stop me from staying again as the cottage was lovely.

This is a stunning cottage set in a beautiful cobbled courtyard.

So quiet you would not know you were in a town. Parked car up and used the Discover Northumberland bus service which for a 3 day saver was exceptional value and a great way of seeing Northumberland. Views from the upstairs of bus meant you could see all the coastline and the beautiful countryside. Only used our car twice. What a result.

Loved the curtains, but heavy duty curtain hooks are required as each time the curtains were drawn they came off!!

Ideal location , for exploring the area and a very clean and tidy place .
