Hemmel Cottage

One of the best self-catering properties we have ever stayed in.

Had everything we needed. Great location within the village and very central for exploring north Northumberland.

Had a fantastic stay at Hemmel Cottage.

It was like a home from home, everything we could have possibly needed - even an airer to dry the beach gear! Lovely touch to have a bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival. Cupboard full of games and books were also welcomed. Great location to explore the surrounding area and really loved the village of Chatton. The park was a big hit with the kids. The only thing I could fault was not having a privacy blind for the lounge as did feel a little on show when people were to and from their car.

Excellent cottage, plenty of space, very clean and in a lovely village with a nice pub 100 yards away.

We went with a friend so the 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms was ideal, it has a wow factor. The cottage is in a good position to visit all the surrounding attractions. Thank you to the owners for a very enjoyable holiday.

We thoroughly enjoyed coming back to a cosy cottage after a day out exploring a beautiful are.

We were very happy with the cottage, our only criticism is that we would have appreciated the towel rails to be on.

In the information book it said the heating control was pre set & was not to be readjusted, baring in mind the week we were there, the temperature was 10 to 12 degrees.

A lovely cottage in a great village.

Had a lovely comfortable stay in Hemmel Cottage. It was spotlessly clean with everything you would need when self catering. Very peaceful and central for visiting Northumberland. Thank you for the wine and biscuits. hope to return next year.

Hemmel Cottage is a wonderful barn conversion that is set in the really peaceful village of Chatton.

The cottage is so homely and equipped with everything you might need. Of note was just how clean annd tidy it was on anrrival. Its location is perfect for accessing all of Northumbria’s amazing sites. It was our third visit and we will be returning next Spring.

The property was immaculate, the single beds room a bit cramped.

I suffer from hip problem and found getting into shower in bath difficult, this is not a reflection on the cottage ,I’m speaking from my point of view. I would recommend this property ,the whole collection of accommodation was superbly maintained.Thank you

This cottage fully lived up to its description.

It is extremely comfortable, warm and well equipped. Its location is quiet and peaceful. The ideal setting for a refreshing break. The beauty of the area speaks for itself.

Excellent, well-managed and spotless property containing everything you could need.

Everything was of top quality and a credit to the owners. Slight niggle was that there was a high step in corridor between living and sleeping areas. A grab rail was provided but two more shallow steps would be an advantage. On the same lines, settees were a bit low for us. These niggles did not interfere too much with the beauty of this wonderful cottage. It is definitely one of the best we have stayed in. Thanks to the owners for the wine and shortbread which was waiting for us on our arrival.

Hemmel Cottage exceeded expectations.

The living area was more spacious than in the photos. The furniture and fittings were first class and it was very well equipped. This was much appreciated. We loved the artwork. We enjoyed sitting in the garden in its peaceful surroundings. Thank you.

It is well equipped, it is situated well for visiting everywhere in Northumberland, The local pub is friendly and our stay was just what we needed. Would definitely recommend.

This was our third visit to Hemmel cottage.

It is a very clean warm and well equipped holiday home set in a quiet location but within easy reach of the coast and many places of interest.

Hemmel Cottage really is a wonderful property.

Set in a wonderfully peaceful village in an ideal spot to access everything Northumberland has to offer. The cottage is tremendous. Finished to a high standard with everything you may need. It really is a credit to its owners. About things you may already know: The fridge door may need adjusting and the rubber seal on main kitchen sink plug is missing. There was also a couple of sticky residue marks on the carpet behind the entrance door. Overall, a wonderful holiday property. It was our second visit and we will be back next year.

We had a fabulous stay at Hemmel Cottage.

Instructions on how to get there & key collection were excellent. As soon as you opened the front door & had a look around you could see it was exceptionally clean, comfortable & well decorated.There were some lovely touches eg the Christmas tree & decorations as we were there just after Christmas until just after the New Year. The welcome pack of Cava, shortbread & milk was a very nice touch, thank you.The beds were very comfortable & the X2 bathrooms were very useful with there being X4 adults. There was plenty of storage in the bedrooms for your clothes etc. The kitchen area had plenty of equipment for cooking meals . The lounge area is lovely & relaxing with comfortable sofas. There is adequate room for X4 adults. At night it is dark but there are sensor lights & torches if you did not want to put the light on so all bases well covered. Lovely garden at the back & the X2 parking spaces were so useful. The cottage is well positioned for exploring Northumberland & the Scottish Borders. It is also in a quiet position. We would highly recommend & would love to return in the future. Thank you for a fabulous stay.

Always clean and well equipped.

A beautiful cottage in a convenient location for the many attractions in the locality.

The owners provided a very thoughtful welcome gift of wine and biscuits for our stay. A spacious lounge and kitchen for the size of the property. The provision of an en suite for the main bedroom as well as the bathroom for the other bedroom is a real bonus.

Very cosy cottage suitable for exploring Northumberland with easy parking and garden area. Local pub selling good food. Would definitely stay in this cottage again.

The property was comfortable and well furnished.

Good off road parking. The outside furniture was past its best with the wooden furniture needing attention. The front door had problems and also the outside light at the front was not working. These are only small issues which are picky and did not at have any detraction from a great week

Great cottage in a peaceful location.

Ideal for visiting inland Northumberland, coast and also Scottish Borders. Cottage had everything we needed. It was a good size for two is us and would be fine for two adults and two children but think it would be a bit tight for 4 adults. Living room has two comfy sofas and the kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The bedrooms are both a good size with plenty of storage. The master bedroom is quite dark, due to there only being 1 small window. However, the lack of natural light was compensated for by the fact there is plenty of lights/lamps in the room! The en-suite bathroom would benefit from some more storage, other than a narrow glass shelf above the toilet there was nowhere to put toiletries and the same applies in the shower, which was big enough to have a shelf or shower tidy installed. The shower was one of the best I’ve used in a holiday cottage for both power and hot water! The cottage is in a little complex and was very quiet and the garden, although smaller than it looked on the photos, was an advantage and was quite private. We used the local pub, the Percy Arms for drinks and food and would definitely recommend for a meal! Overall a great cottage in a good location. Would definitely recommend.

The property is well located to explore Northumberland.

The kitchen is well equipped and lounge comfortable to sit at the end of the day. There were 4 of us at the property and whilst the master bedroom and bathroom is very nice, the other bedroom with the twin beds is rather small and there is little space for luggage. We had our case on the chair with most of its content left inside as the wardrobe drawer was already full with possibly bedding. There is only one bedside cabinet shared by the two occupants, so I had to put reading glasses, water, jewellery on the floor..Also the single bedside light did not provide enough light for both occupants to read. Outside the property there are two loose paving stones, which are a trip hazard..

Cottage has a real homely feel, is well equipped and most importantly, the beds are comfy. Would not hesitate to rebook if revisiting Northumberland.

Great cottage.

Well presented with all the amenities - kitchen etc - we neededed. Very comfortable. Would come again.

Had family with small grand children nearby so needed a bolthole to come back to for wind down and peace and quiet.

We found it. Pity we only used it as a b and b but evrything was there, comfort, log fire etc. Great property beautifully furnished. Would love to return for a proper break away a d make full use of all that was there.

Quiet and peaceful. One little recommendation as it is very dark, a must for amazing night skies, a torch or sensor lights in bathroom and en-suite at night would be useful to avoid putting light on for anyone needing night visit

Plus parking for 2 cars . We can recommend staying here , Chatton is a lovely village and The Percy Inn is a lovely country Inn with good food and only across the road

A delightful and well maintained cottage with everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay towards the north of Northumberland.

Being just 5 miles from the A1 to the East and the same distance to Wooler to the west made it a convenient spot from all our outings.

great pub within 5 minutes walk. The cottage is ideally located to explore Northumberland. Alnwick is only 20 minutes drive away. Edinburgh is only 90 minutes drive. The cottage is very light and modern and had a quiet, south facing garden. Lovely bird song was a bonus..

We have just returned from a great week in Hemmel Cottage.

..the cottage was spotlessly clean, had comfortable beds and all the facilities were amazing and modern and having two parking spaces was ideal. We highly recommend this amazing convenient cosy cottage and appreciated the owner leaving us a welcome gift of milk, wine and delicious chocolate biscuits...thank you! Best quality fixtures and fittings and good heating system. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone. Pub in village of Chatton The Percy Arms was very good value. Would.love to return.

An absolutely terrific cottage situated in a really beautiful location.

Everything about the cottage spoke of the owners attention to detail. Chatton village itself was wonderfully quiet, yet had the Percy Arms pub for breakfasts, dinner and drinks. And there was even a quaint post office and village shop. As for the cottage, it was great to have 2 parking spaces right next to the cottage. The cottage garden was very private. No issues with accessing the cottage keys on arrival. Inside the cottage we were surprised at the real quality of the place, yet so homely and quiet. Everything we might have needed was there. We highly recommend Hemmel Cottage and hopefully we will be returning next year.

This is an excellent cottage in all respects.

Comfortable, clean and well appointed, conveniently located for visiting the attractions that the area has to offer, and very close to the local pub, which serves good food and ale.The welcome gifts were much appreciated. One to return to.

Second visit and again did not disappoint.

Spotless cottage. Perfect location to have peace and quiet but be a few mins in car to coast, so really is best of both worlds.

We have had an incredible stay at this beautiful, clean and cosy cottage.

We were really grateful for the cot being set up on arrival and the use of the high chair as well as the milk, wine and biscuits. A brilliant location where we hope to return to. Thank you very much.

Perfect location for touring the coastal area and the national park. Amenities are near to hand, with a pub in the village that serves good food and shopping and dining out in Wooler, which is only a few minutes drive away.

The property is well appointed and the village a great base for exploring Northumberland. Guest information pack was informative and the guidebooks in the property helped plan some day trips. My wife is an avid reader and enjoyed reading the many books in the bookshelf, including one on the area of Glasgow that we reside in. Quite the coni coincidence. We had our wedding anniversary meal on the first evening in the pub less than 5 mins walk along the road. It was excellent quality and very reasonably priced. Would definitely stay again as this peaceful village is close enough to many of the attractions Northumberland has to offer.

Nice village with pub and shop. Private garden was fantastic for our son who loved playing in it. Lots to do in the area and not far from Bamburgh. Would definitely book again.

Absolutely fantastic cottage well equipped everything you need.

This cottage is a credit to the owners so clean like being at home. The only thing that could be improved on is two pillows for every bed and a couple more cushions on sofa. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Perfect in every way.

Immaculate cottage and everything you could need was there for you. Two bathrooms a bonus and beds so very comfy. Village location was perfect and the private garden was a haven of peace after busy sightseeing day. Ideal location to visit Bamburgh, Alnwick, Seahouses and rest of coast as well as the national park all just short drive away. Village shop very friendly and perfect for bread, milk papers etc. we will be back!

Great place, in which we thoroughly enjoyed staying.

The layout was ideal for a married couple and a visiting cousin from Canada - having the two bathrooms gave us both a bit of privacy! Everything went well and we wouldn’t hesitate to book this place again if w are ever in the area.

Really excellent cottage and location - kitchen living area and bedrooms all excellent.

Would have been useful to have logs for the wood burner or access (key) to the shed for the outdoor cushions (the comfortable wicker furniture not available during our stay) . Just minor points since most days were out cycling, walking or sightseeing. The power cut on Saturday 30th April 8am did not affect us since it was our leaving day. May be useful to provide guidance on response for future guests - locals had indicated this has occurred in the past. Overall great accommodation and local facilities such as the Percy arms

The cottage was very comfortable.

It was in a great location with a lovely garden. We were very impressed by how well equipped the cottage was - particularly the kitchen. We will definitely be recommending the cottage to friends and family.

A lovely cottage that was well equipped and in a very quiet and beautiful location.

The addition of Christmas decorations was a nice touch and made our stay all the more relaxing. The pub down the road from the cottage is a good place to eat and enjoy a drink. The local shop has all the essentials you need. I am sure we will stay here again.

We had a good week at Hemmel cottage.

The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival the sofas and beds were comfortable. Only slight disappointment was the washer was out of order. Not a big problem and I accept things can break down.

Fantastic cottage, clean, well equipped, quiet and in a great location to explore Northumberland, with the Cheviots 20 minutes in one direction, Bamburgh and the east coast beaches 20 minutes in another and alnwick 20 minutes south.

Main windows in lounge were not clean.

The bath needs an anti-slip mat. A pole is needed in order to open velux windows, borrowed pole from neighbouring cottage in order to open.

Hemmel Cottage was lovely and we enjoyed our stay BUT remembering the hassle and lack of customer care and even contact by phone or by email which l experienced last year means that sadly, l think it unlikely that l would use your services again.

We had a lovely holiday in this very well presented and clean cottage.

It was comfortable and well equipped and we couldn't fault it. The surrounding countryside is tranquil and there are lovely beaches and places of interest within easy reach. We hope to visit again.

Hemmel cottage was delightful.

Lovely quiet location. The Cottage is well equipped; warm; comfortable and a good size for our family of 4. We will definitely be back. We visited the Percy Arms and had a lovely evening meal as well as good breakfasts. The Cottage is well placed for visiting attractions in the area and a good base for a week away.

Sadly had to cut holiday short.

Car developed clutch problems! But couldn't fault the cottage. Your usual high standard. Could have done with a sun umbrella. Good complaint to have. Had some glorious weather.

Beautiful cottage within a quiet village which has a lovely local pub and small shop.

We found it was the ideal location to easily access the surrounding areas- Berwick, Bamburgh, Seahouses and Newton all within a 20/30 minute drive. The cottage was extremely well equipped and we felt it was a real "home from home". We will definitely look to book again!

Comfortable beds and smart bathrooms. The village of Chatton is quiet and surrounded by wonderful countryside, not far from the coast with it's lovely sandy beaches.All in all, a great place for a holiday.

An excellent property, well appointed and ideally situated for walking in the northern Cheviots/border country and visits to the beautiful Northumbrian coast.

Together with a pub within a 5 minute walk, a lovely cottage - we've already booked again for next year!

When we booked we didn't realise how close the Percy Arms was consequently we ate there several times, the cottage was beautiful had everything we needed for a break away in January

Cottage and village were spectacular, however, the local pub came highly recommended for its food that was pretty mediocre at best.

Village store is amazing though.

This is a beautifully maintained property in a great setting.

Set back from the road it offered every comfort and also privacy. It has a lovely garden too which was unexpected. The area is great for walking and exploring; town, country and coast! Lots of good places to eat nearby too.

The cottage was a great home from home, ideally located for exploring the area. A comfortable stay and was exactly what I hoped it would be. Also a lovely quiet spot this time of year. We would definitely return to Hemmel cottage again.

The cottage was superb,spotlessly clean,well equipped and spacious.

Situated in a quiet village a short drive from the coast.

This cottage had everything you would need including thoughtful extras, like a box of emergency supplies.

So if you had forgotten your toothbrush, sanitary supplies or needed a needle and thread - there it was in the box!! Brilliant idea. There was salt and pepper in the kitchen cupboards, dishwasher tablets, lots of fresh clean tea towels, spare bulbs, extra bath towels, you name it. The fridge had a new carton of milk in it and there was a bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival. It took a while to find the ironing board (tucked away in the spare bedroom), but the iron was readily to hand on top of the washing machine. Probably the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. Plus it was very comfortable, and had a private, well equipped garden so we could sit outside comfortably. To add to all that, we loved the location. Perfect.

Perfect location for visiting places of interest.

Cottage is superb, facilities are great, everything you need is provided, clocks in bedrooms, an umbrella and even a torch! Would recommend and we would definitely book it again.
