The Barn is an absolute spectacular place to stay! The owner has thought of all you could need and then some. Some may think it a little old fashioned and that the kitchen is too small but in all honesty it was absolutely perfect for us. It's warm, cozy, homely and also quite grand, the bedroom is a particular highlight and the pictures don't do it full justice. The views from any direction are nothing short of spectacular. The location is perfect for walkers with walks literally from the doorstep. We absolutely LOVED our week here and wished we'd booked 2 weeks. A return is definitely on the cards.

Such a peaceful retreat set in beautiful scenery.

The Barn was a warm and incredibly comfortable accommodation. The large and enclosed garden was great for our dog to happily run around in and know she was safe. Cynthia was a lovely host - having thought of everything her guests could need, and a few extras. The Easter egg was a lovely touch, thank you. We will be returning

Location, location, location!

Fabulous in this case. An adventure to get there and absolutely unique. Clean, very warm (I certainly didn’t need the additional fires available). The very best part was the garden. Half of Northumberland is set out before you and several seating options and even a companion (a tad on the reticent side). Skylarks accompanied my lunches and coffees out there. After a period of illness, this was an absolute tonic. Thank you, Cynthia for the welcome and wonderful special additions. Almost forgot to mention the bed…..SO roomy and comfortable. I even felt restored enough to go to the top of the Crag; easy walks with no need to drive. Waitrose is close by for shopping if you need treats and Belsay, Kirkharle and Wallington are nearby, if you can tear yourself away from chilling in the garden.

The occasion was my 60th Birthday .

...then New Years Eve.... We can only describe it as Perfect... Will be heading back soon.

Cynthia made The Barn very homely and welcoming.

After a long journey it was a wonderful start to the week to find tea, coffee and some milk in the fridge, even some biscuits and chocolate. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Throughly enjoyed our visit the The Barn (again).

Cynthia is the perfect host and is helpful, without being intrusive. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, comfortable and very well equipped with a generous welcome pack on arrival. Although we love to get out and about exploring, I could quite happily have spent the entire time in the massive 4 poster bed. It is so comfortable, I didn’t want to get up in the mornings. Once I dragged myself out, having a coffee in the well maintained garden, in peace and quiet watching the cows in the fields and listening to the birds singing sets you up for a day of exploring. I really don’t like giving positive reviews on properties like this as I worry it will become too popular and I’ll struggle to get booked again. The Barn is a hidden gem.

Cynthia, the owner, is lovely,very welcoming and friendly and spritely! Views to die for, the most comfy bed I've ever slept in and every comfort you could need. Very clean and lovely little touches made our stay perfect.

Absolutely lovely.

The Barn is so comfortable and welcoming. Everything there you could possibly need. Garden is beautiful and the views second to none. Cynthia is very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. She patiently guided us by telephone to our destination( as we didn't properly read the instructions on the email!) and was there to meet us on arrival, even though we were late. Such a lovely welcome....bottle of wine, milk, chocolates & biscuits left for us. So thoughtful. Will look forward to returning soon.

Loved staying at The Barn!

Quiet, private and so cosy! I would not hesitate to stay again!

If you like remote it’s perfect

2nd time staying in The Barn was just as fantastic as the 1st.

The Barn is very clean, has every amenity you could need and a very comfortable 4 poster bed. The private gardens look even better in the summer and are very tranquil with an amazing view. Cynthia is the perfect host. The bottle of wine was greatly appreciated.

Cynthia's lovely little cottage is the perfect place to enjoy peace and quite with lovely views, and she was very friendly and welcoming, a lovely touch with the little extras of milk, biscuits and wine on arrival.

The cottage was well stocked with everything you could need for your break, very comfortable large bed. Enjoyed our stay very much, highly recommended.

I knew we would be happy at Shaftoe Barn the moment I walked in.

Cynthia was friendly and I think she really gives the impression she enjoys welcoming guests and her attention to detail in the period property is perfect. It turned out to be a place to totally relax, truly a home from home. We regarded ourselves very fortunate in choosing this as our holiday accommodation, particularly as we are not used to booking on line, as the view was second to none and I was able to make use of Cynthia’s delightful garden, which was private to us, for lunch and reading on two sunny & warm days as the seating area is very sheltered although still affording the view.

This holiday property is quite amazing.

Having had many number of self catering holidays over the years, the Barn excelled them all in every respect. Efficiency and kindness from the owner was heartening and we shall certainly book again. It is situated in a perfect spot for not only relaxing in the gardens but also it's proximity to country houses, craft venues, places to rock climb and walk. Wonderful holiday. Anne Bertoluzzi

A beautiful property with amazing views.

We got so much more than we expected. The welcoming tea, coffee, biscuits and milk were greatly appreciated. Cynthia is a wonderful host and nothing was too much bother. We have booked again for September to spend time in the beautiful, well maintained garden when it is in full bloom.

Fantastic setting would highly recommend. One tiny niggle was the water pressure from the shower wasn’t great. However we had a fab time and left feeling relaxed and re charged.
