Drovers Rest

The property is cosy and spotlessly clean, in a very quiet and remote location.

It has everything you need, although it's worth noting that there is no wi-fi, which may be important to some guests. The owners live a short distance away, and they are friendly and helpful without intruding on your privacy. The area is beautiful. The Northumberland coast is an hours drive away, and Kielder is about 45 minutes, lovely for walking and being in nature. There are also lots of pretty villages to explore.

The accommodation was very comfortable and very quiet.

The owners were more than helpful and very friendly. We would definitely recommend the cottage and will be returning.

What an absolutely divine cottage!

We felt so happy there that we didn't want to come home. So sad to leave, but happy that we found it. Ann is an absolute treasure!

The cottage was clean and comfortable with all the equipment needed for a self catering holiday.

The position of the cottage, although isolated, proved very central for all the places we visited.

The property was spotlessly clean. There was no hairdryer, but I'd taken my own as it hadn't stated that one was provided. Just an observation as most people might expect this to be provided. A lovely cottage in a beautifully quiet position. I would definitely recommend. Thank you.

A delightful, comfortable property, with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay in Northumberland.

Extremely well maintained and clean throughout. The owners were lovely and the welcome basket of goodies was a nice touch. A great base for visiting coast and countryside as long as you are happy to do some driving but as the roads are not busy this is not too onerous! Nature watching and star gazing included free of charge!

It was an absolutely fantastic cottage set in beautiful surroundings.

The hosts/owners were friendly and totally amiable and lived next door, so very hand’y if you need anything at all . We had a brilliant holiday and fully intend to return soon for a longer stay. Its location is very good for any body that wants to visit the Northumberland national park . This area also has a high number of visitors attractions including NT and English heritage. This is the third time we have stayed at the Drovers Rest and we as a family absolutely love it.

It is peaceful and quiet. It is a good place to visit lots of different parts of Northumberland. The hosts are lovely. Would recommend for a quiet relaxing break.

A warm and cosy cottage, all on the ground floor, so no stairs to climb.

Plenty of room inside to move about and a comfy sitting area. Although this is near a main 'A' Road, there was virtually no noise from the traffic at all. Easy access and parking right outside the front door. Very friendly hosts who are nearby if needed.

This is a lovely comfortable cottage.

Lots of thought have gone into making it homely. Warm and cosy and well equipped kitchen. The countryside around is stunning. No internet which wasn't mentioned by Sykes but good to have a break from it anyway. Lot of driving if you want to head to the coast not in distance but many winding roads but the beautiful villages and scenery on route made it worth the effort. John and Annie seem very kind friendly folk. Left us some lovely biscuits in welcome pack. Great property for keen walkers and bird watchers. Recommended . Bev & Phil Rothwell.

Drovers Rest is a spacious and comfortable two bed cottage with all facilities.

The owners , John and Anne, are friendly and helpful We were able to walk everyday and were very lucky with the weather. There is a 3 acre garden with lovely views of the surrounding moors and the dark skies are fantastic. Robert and Sandra Hird.

Lovely property in a great setting.

Although it's on a main A road it is sheltered by trees, but roads in Northumberland are not that busy anyway. Lots of wildlife in the huge garden, including hares. This was our fourth visit and already planning our fifth! Owners make their guests very welcome.

First of all we must say that we had a lovely holiday as the feedback shows.

There would be one thing we would suggest: The bath has no hand grips. Hand grips are essential for safety especially for those with mobility issues. Personally I felt unsafe whilst taking a shower as the bath itself is very slippery and it would have been so easy to fall. Apart from this the bath room is immaculate as is the entire cottage... we would not hesitate to recommend and return!!

It was a lovely, comfortable, homely cottage in peaceful surroundings.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. One small thing. The instructions for recycling could include glass as we only noticed a glass recycling bin outside at the end of our stay so put ours in with general rubbish. Thank you John and Anne for a lovely stay and generous welcome pack.

We had a lovely week in Northumberland despite the rain and Drover's Rest was a warm and comfortable base from which to explore.

The listing does mention this but be aware that there is no soap and it's worth also bringing cooking oil and salt and extra toilet roll. There was also no tea or coffee, which we found unusual but milk and biscuits were provided. Overall, it's a very solid choice with a friendly host but it lacks some comforts that other cottages provide.

Mr and Mrs Curry were absolutely lovely and very welcoming.

Overall the cottage is lovely and comfortable but just a couple of small things would improve it. We were out all day every day of our holiday but due to cold weather weather needed the heating on when we returned and then a hot bath. You need to be aware that if you have the heating on too much you won’t have enough hot water for a really good warm bath. The DVD player wouldn’t play some of our discs and jumped in parts on others. The toilet seat needed tightening and the bathroom light needed changing- I did inform Mrs Curry about this. Nothing really bad but the DVD player was a bit irritating. However overall the stay was very positive and I would certainly be happy to recommend the cottage to others. It’s a beautiful area and the cottage is well equipped and comfortable.

A lovely cottage with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay, The owners were welcoming and there if needed but also gave you privacy.

A great base for exploring wild Northumberland, great dark skies and star gazing opportunities. Fantastic walking close by and kielder water was definitely worth a visit. A fantastic cottage for a couple or family with loads to do close by. Definitely recommend, 5 star.

Drovers Rest is one of the cleanest and most comfortable cottages we have stayed in.

The owners really made us feel welcome and we had a great week in Northumberland, regardless of the poor weather. The only issue we had was with Sykes who have turned out to be the worst cottage rental company we have ever dealt with.

Cottage is well located for exploring the beautiful countryside and the cottage is a joy to come back to. We spent a few evenings sitting outside the cottage watching the glorious sunsets. Just what we needed to unwind and relax. The cottage owners were very kind and friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. We will doubtless return.

We had a comfortable stay in this clean and well insulated cottage.

Although the weather wasn't great, there are some fantastic places to visit, the pub up the road was good and you can go walking from the cottage doorstep. The hosts John and Anne were very hospitable and we had a couple of great chats.

As we were there in 2018, we knew what to expect, and we were not disappointed.

Unlike our previous experience at the Pheasant in Bowes, there was CONTROLLABLE CENTRAL HEATING,. Ann and John are a lovely couple. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, and there were numerous places to get a meal. Overall everything was excellent.

We found the property very well kept and well equipped.

The owners were very friendly and approachable and our holiday was all we had hoped for as all the attractions we wished to see were within reasonable distances . Only small minus was we would have preferred WiFi to be available but this proved a minor inconvenience.

Another amazing stay here, we will surely come back again.

Location is perfect, so close to so many things. Cottage and garden itself is just fabulous, the skies are amazing. The owners live onsite and are lovely they are happy to have a chat or leave you to your own devices. We stayed with our 2 children and it was perfect!! We really didn't want to leave!!

The cottage was absolutely beautiful, and furnished and equipped to a high standard.

We generally cooked supper at home, and everything we needed was available. The location was idyllic, with easy access to walks, in remote, unspoiled countryside. The proprietors live on site, and they were welcoming and helpful without being in any way intrusive. Altogether a delightful week!

The owners are so friendly and welcoming. The garden is stunning with so many birds and a family of hares. The countryside is beautiful with so many interesting places to visit. Highly recommended!

This lovely cottage is the perfect base for exploring the stunning historical Northumbrian countryside.

We’ve had a packed fortnight, visiting as many of the sites as possible, both English & Scottish! Despite the cold, the rain & wind, we were warm inside and entertained by the hares, swallows and blue tits nesting

Very comfortable and clean cottage.

Only suggestion would be to have two standard lamps in living room as it is a bit dark at night, reading, with the current lighting. Otherwise vey good.

Weather was quite good and saw a lot of the amazing countryside. Owners extremely friendly. Would definitely like to return.

Towels and bed linen provided were clean and fresh. The cottage was very comfortable for chilling at the end of a day out. A welcome start to our stay was the biscuits left by the owners, Ann and John. Drovers Rest was very peaceful with lovely views over the surrounding area. The cottage was in Ann and John's own garden, but it was very private and we were able to wander round their garden as we wished. Ann and John were very welcoming, friendly and great to chat to. They had thought of everything to make a visitor's stay comfortable. The surrounding area is well worth exploring by walking or by car, especially the nearby Kielder Forest and Water Park. Drovers Rest was a wonderful place to spend a week with our two children.

The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable, the location is wonderful. I would echo previous reviews to reassure folk that despite the closeness to the road, you genuinely do not notice it - and having come from Leeds the level of traffic is very low anyway. John and Anne were extremely kind and helpful hosts. We will certainly be coming back!

Drivers Rest is in idyllic surroundings with plenty of wild life to watch.

The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful but are not intrusive. The cottage has all you need for a very comfortable stay. The owners wifi does not extend to the cottage but G4 is fine. We had a great holiday and are determined to return next year.

Anne was a perfect host. This is a fantastic holiday cottage, very clean, well equiped and in a lovely,quiet rural location.

Anne and John were nearby if needed but left us be, cottage a home from home and scenery beautiful, plenty to discover around the area.

Drovers rest was a lovely cottage, that had everything we needed for our week away.

Our dog enjoyed the large garden. It is well situation for exploring the local area.

As soon as we arrived we felt at home.

Anne & John had provided us with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great and there was plenty of room. Though the cottage was near to a main road we didn't hear the traffic at all due to its position, being lower than the road and behind a copse of trees. This gave us many a restful night's sleep. The cottage is ideally situated for sight seeing and there are many tourist leaflets provided. Anne & John are very accommodating and friendly. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

The property is in a stunning location with easy access to both Northumberland and Scotland for those who want to explore.

The property is of a really high standard and was very comfortable and cosy. The owners didn't intrude on our visit at all which is unlike other properties we have stayed in in the past. The whole experience was fantastic and we look forward to returning to explore more of the area.

All that is missing is a splash back for the cooker, it did inhibit the use of cooker, other than that it was perfect in every aspect, a big thankyou to Anne and John.

The cottage is in the country and you wake up to views of the hills and valleys the owners lived near but where not intrusive but were willing to help if you needed them a very charming and friendly couple, there was plenty of places to visit we could have spent two weeks and not seen it all, we are certainly going back there next year thank you again for a lovely holiday Yours Heather and Les

A truly lovely cottage with everything you could possibly need.

There were one or two things missing, there were no instructions for any of the electrical items, for example the cooker.

Also waste bins in the bedrooms and no chairs or stools in the bedrooms to sit on or put clothes on.. The cottage was rather cold (not good weather though, cold) and was not helped that the 3 piece suite was leather. The bathroom floor really does need replacing. The bed was exceedingly comfortable and the whole place was very very clean and nicely furnished. The owners, Ann and John were very helpful and kind.

We really enjoyed our time in Northumbria and the cottage really helped with this.

It is a warm and comfortable place to rest and play. The hosts are warm and generous people and the cottage is clean and comfortable. We would recommend upgrading some facilities such as adding wifi, a dishwasher and dark curtains in the bedrooms. However, apart from this we enjoyed our time here.

In regards to pet friendly.

..although it was stipulated that dogs must b kept on leads ..i did not expect it to compulsory for the private garden...so anyone taking pets should b made very clear about this. Mr and mrs curry..charming hosts..warm..funny and friendly..beautiful location.

Fantastic cottage, a real home from home.

Amazing views from cottage. Super clean. Super comfortable. Close to pretty much most stuff in Northumberland. Our kids 5&7 loved it. The owners were fantastic, they were really good with the kids and the children were free to explore all of the grounds and we didnt need to worry about them being quiet. The owners live on site and are there if you need them and also great to have a chat with. But also happy to leave you alone to get on with your holiday. I put out the kids washing to dry but it rained, when we returned it had been dried and folded for us!!! When we return to Northumberland we will be staying here again!

It is a great place to explore the surrounding areas. the owners are near by and very helpful. The photo does not do justice to the cottage's location but that was not the slightest problem. There is a nearby pub that serves a very good evening meal; booking is advised
