Mill House

The house was lovely and had everything we needed.

Very clean and bright. Our only downside was the beds. Springs could be felt in all the mattresses.

The cottage was comfortable and very large with everything we needed.

Inside we felt some areas need a little care, repair to skirting boards in one of the en suites, plugs for some of the sinks also some of the sinks and taps could of been a little cleaner. Outside the garden was overgrown with nettles, thistles and huge elderberry bushes almost covering the lounge french window, this was very disappointing and nothing like the pictures on the website.

Lovely property for a family group.

Good kitchen and space to eat. The pool table was a boon on a few rainy evenings. The house is well and truly off the beaten track but a quick drive to either the Cheviots or the coast. Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages are so lovely and helpful (have been using them for decades) but the Sykes intervention is not local and less helpful.

Mill House is a fantastic holiday home!

! Soooo spacious. Beautifully decorated. Everything you could possibly need supplied and the pool table was a great bonus. The location, on a working farm, was perfect for us. In addition to their livestock, we saw loads of hares, curlews and skylark in the fields nearby. The village shop alone, with all its home-baked goods, was reason enough to stay here, but its proximity to Holy Island (which we walked to, at low tide, with bare feet!), and the local villages of Etal and Ford and the working Mill Museum at Heatherslaw, made it ideal. We also really enjoyed exploring the coastal path at Berwick and the fantastic second-hand bookshop in the old railway station at Aknwick. All in all, an excellent stay we hope to repeat!

A fabulous property in an excellent location.

Very well equipped accommodation, large rooms and owners who we knew were reassuringly available but not obvious should we have needed anything, which we didn’t. Thoroughly recommended. Probably one of the best we have stayed at over many years Paul

This accommodation was very clean and comfortable and was a home from home with little extra touches such as a welcome pack (tea/coffee/sugar/milk/butter).

There is so much space for a large party and the snooker table was a bonus. The accommodation is in a very quiet location on a working farm and is a very good base for the local area (Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne, Berwick upon Tweed and only 60 miles from Edinburgh). Would definitely recommend.

We really could not have wished for a better property and where it is positioned.

Each of the four bedrooms were so lovely and very big. Plenty of space. Bathrooms and en-suites were spot on too. The huge kitchen and living area were absolutely ideal for the many people to be together and eat all our meals together. The kitchen had everything you needed. The lounge area was superb too and even included a pool table. The back garden allowed you to experience the peaceful countryside sounds of just birds and cows. All in all - it was perfection. Would definitely go again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mill House for my sister’s 50th birthday!

Lovely welcome basket on arrival, and the property was clean, tidy and well equipped. It was a very spacious house but also felt cosy, with comfy bedding and nice toiletries. We had glorious weather for April and were able to sit outside to eat several times. Lovely!

Really loved the house and had a wonderful stay there.

The kitchen was well stocked with everything we could need for cooking and serving large meals. The amount of space was amazing! Our group had so much room to spread out - and we loved the pool table. The only very minor issue is that the various showers could all do with a bit of TLC - e.g. the shower head on one has quite a bit of limescale, so could do with a good clean, then another shower was quite difficult to get a good temperature. But other than that - we had no problems at all. Thanks again - and for sending our left behind property to us so promptly too :-)

Great holiday at Mill House.

Fantastic property, spacious and really comfortable. Great location for sightseeing around Northumberland. Would definitely go back in the future.

We have had a lovely week staying at Mill house .

It is a really clean and spacious property with a very well equipped kitchen. We spent a lot of socialising time in there . The welcome package was much appreciated. Thank you . The village shop was friendly and sold fresh pies and pastries. The village park was a great find . The location was ideal for what we wanted to see and do . Susie was always quick to respond to my emails . The only disappointing thing was the garden .Smaller than envisaged but possibly because it was a bit overgrown. The lawn had been cut but we had to cut back thorns and nettles to make it safe for the children . You couldn’t have stepped out of the living room patio doors due to the dense mass of thorns that covered the ground ..

We really enjoyed our stay at Mill House and it was the best stocked house we have stayed in.

There were lots of little supplies e.g dishwasher tablets foil clingfilm salt pepper bread butter coffee tea and good supply of toilet and kitchen roll which were really appreciated as it is less to have to go and buy when you are on holiday. The house itself was great and very generous in terms of size- brilliant social spaces and loved the pool table. Good location for visiting other places and Black Bull Sunday lunch was excellent

Once again we had a really lovely stay at Mill House.

We stayed last June and it didn’t disappoint this time. We had glorious weather and the garden is a sun trap and so private and peaceful. Not overlooked at all. The house was spotless and has everything you will ever need including 2 ovens and 2 fridges. We all love it and will visit again next year. Quiet location. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable and spacious bedrooms. Had a lovely time.

Mill House proved to be a lovely, spacious and thoroughly clean barn conversion.

As a family of four adults and two young grandchildren, we had a peaceful base to explore the Northumbrian coast , its historic sites and Edinburgh via train from Berwick. The owner, Mrs Nielsen, is and was available for any issues that may arise, and this is something that we have not experienced in previous rentals. In summary, we really enjoyed our week in Mill House ,in particular our two grandchildren who could not wait use the whirlpool bath. Thank you, to the Nielsen family. Ian Williams and family .

This is a lovely quiet cottage which is extremely spacious with a large well-equipped kitchen, together with a sizable sitting room downstairs allowing the guests to spread out.

The four bedrooms upstairs are all of a good size too.

When we first entered the house we were surprised how big it was!

It's so spacious,clean and it has very warm feeling. We spent our Christmas in the house and we would definitely do it again! Highly recommend!

Its the small touches that make a stay, good communication beforehand with a welcome pack to greet you when you enter just add to the experience. Overall a great stay in a fabulous house with good access to rural Northumberland. Would highly recommend staying here.

We had a lovely week at Mill House.

Its location is ideal for many attractions such as Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle. It’s also only about an hour away from Rosslyn Chapel and Walter Scott’s house across the border. The house it self was so comfortable and cosy. It had everything you could possibly need. We highly recommend the Lowick village shop too. We were also happy with the 2 restaurants in Lowick: The Black Bull and The White Swan. The pool table was a real fun treat too!

We have stayed at Mill House for four years consecutively and have never been less than delighted to have done so.

Everything about it suits us perfectly and, good fortune permitting, we hope to stay there on many more occasions in the future.

Mill House is a lovely property - a well designed barn conversion on a working farm.

Its location was perfect for exploring this part of Northumberland (and Scotland too). The house is huge with more than enough space for our two families - 7 altogether. The bedrooms and living spaces are vast. The addition of a pool table went down very well. Good communication from Susie, the owner, whom we met when she came, as promised, to replace a broken kitchen bin. A memorable family holiday in a lovely house.

Mill House is honestly one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in.

It had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It was extremely clean and comfortable and the pool table an added bonus for all the family. The garden was secluded and peaceful surrounded by lovely trees and flowers with shaded parts if needed. It had a small gate so our little dog enjoyed playing on the grass with her ball when we were relaxing having a coffee listening to the birdsong. Susie the owner was so friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. We had a fabulous weeks stay all down to the owners attention to detail, there was even a second fridge which was appreciated. The village shop sells gorgeous home made pies and cakes and deserves more than one visit!!! I would highly recommend this holiday cottage and we will definitely book again. It is also near the popular Northumberland coast. One of the best!!

Fantastic holiday home with pretty much everything you need from pizza cutters to a full size pool table.

The setting is lovely and peaceful, with a garden to relax in or for kids to play safely. A couple of local pubs that serve good food (best to drive as no paths, or verges o. The and road) and easy driving distances to Holy Island, Bamburgh, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnwick and beyond. We had a perfect family holiday and would definitely return.

The place is actually bigger than what the pictures make it out to be. Kitchen was fully equipped which was amazing Would definitely recommend to anyone and will be back

Great house in a very quiet location.

Plenty of hot water and super king size beds, The latter is a real bonus as so many holiday properties have standard doubles and/or uncomfortable beds. Facilities within the house are generally excellent but I haven’t given full marks as there was a dripping tap in the kitchen and small leak from a heated towel rail in one bedroom. The owner said their plumber was away which is why they hadn’t been fixed so I assume these issues have now been sorted. Other two issues were a lack of medium and small cooking trays/oven dishes and the fact that the water was brown which we assumed was because it came from a well. The water was drinkable but we ended up buying filtered water for drinking (though did use house water in the kettle and for cooking). The owner did leave a couple of bottles of water as they realised some people may find the brown colour unpalatable. But none of the issues listed would put us off going again. It really is a great place to stay - and the location is handy for lots of local attractions. The village is excellent with two pubs and a brilliant village shop selling local produce. Would throughly recommend this house.

Very good communication with the owner , when we had a problem with the shower it was fixed immediately and the owner kept us totally in the loop .

This is an extremely well appointed property with quality fixtures and fittings.

Very spacious. The only suggestion we had was that coasters were added as we were not comfortable putting hot plates and cups onto the tables. Had an amazing stay and thoroughly recommend this property.

We loved the Barn, it was perfect for 3 small children - plenty of space and safe places to play.

The Barn was within easy reach of all that Northumberland has to offer. The owners were very helpful.

Mill House was simply amazing!

We had a lovely stay and would love to come back. The house was so clean and well equipped and we really appreciated the tea, coffee, biscuits, bread and butter and especially the Prosecco.! You made us feel so welcome. We were sad to leave. We loved the location and will miss the chicken !!! Thank you for everything.

This property is very spacious and works for all age groups.

We went with our children (19 and 21) and grandparents (85 and 92). The flexibility provided by the ziplock beds was really useful. We self catered most of the time and there was little missing from the implements needed, an electric whisk and/or plunge blender would have been useful but I have rarely come across these in rented accommodation. On the other hand there always a good sized steamer, thanks for that. We all enjoyed the pool table and the hammock was fun. This house is well situated for Lindisfarne (10 mins) and Berwick upon Tweed (15 mins) and Alnwick and Cragside are only a little over 30 mins away. The Ford and Etal estate are very close. This place is quiet and secluded, we would stay again.

A lovely week in this fabulous property, very spacious and comfortable.

Maybe more comfortable seating in the garden. Will definitely be back.

We booked Mill House but unfortunately storms meant we couldn’t stay there at the last minute.

However the owner was able to put us in another property Shepherd’s House which was incredible! We couldn’t speak highly enough of the owner for moving us when we thought we would be having a cancellation. The property was outstanding! Better than the photos even, and the photos are great! We had a welcome hamper of essentials on arrival, spotlessly clean, such a well looked after, spacious, modern property that suited our 2 young families plus grandparents! It was really really nice! The bedrooms were really big, fitting a family of four in one of them on one side of the house! The pool table was great for our older children! The kitchen lounge space was amazing, with lovely rural views, huge windows letting in natural light, a lovely space to cook, chat and sit together! The extras details were lovely (eg) christmas trees and lights! It was very rural but there was everything close by we wanted to see; Bamburgh, Holy Island plus plenty of places to eat locally too. We had an excellent time there and couldn’t speak highly enough of the owners and their communication, and the property itself! So although the review isn’t directly about Mill House both houses were owned by the same person so I’m sure the other property would have been of the same high standard. Thank you for a memorable stay! It really was a beautiful property!

Prior to our stay, Mill House suffered damage from Storm Arwen.

We were offered, and accepted, Shepherds' House on the same farm as an alternative. This house also provides roomy and well-considered accommodation. The kitchen was able to cope with many cooks. Our party comprised 7 and the bathroom provision was ideal. The games room with billiard table proved a hit. We enjoyed a grand and happy Christmas. Susan Boyd.

My family and I all enjoyed staying at Mill House, plenty of room and very comfortable.

Lovely cottage with plenty of room for 8 people.

Very comfortable. Owner responded very quickly to any queries we had. Very well equipped with everything you need except a clothes airer and somewhere to put soap in the shower. Location perfect for exploring northern Northumberland and The Borders. The Black Bull in Lowick do amazing meals but book early.

Mill House was amazing place to spend a week, great accommodation with four very spacious bedrooms, and amazing space in general.

The welcoming pack was a lovely touch from the owners and made us all feel at home. Set in a very rural spot just a mile and half from Lowick, provided a great centre to visit all the local towns, with Berwick just 10 miles up the A1 and the Holy island a quick 20 minute drive away. Mill House has everything you need and would certainly come back again if i should be visiting Northumberland in future. A few tips, two great local pubs in Lowick just a 30 minute walk away which both serve excellent food, also if you need some shopping or takeaway just pop to Belford about 9 miles away and you will find a Coop and Fish and Chip shop (excellent by the way).

Brown water .

Holes in the bottom sheets. Not enough storage space in kitchen for food when delivered. Fridge could also do with being larger to hold food for 7 or more people. Forks were distorted. Stable door very difficult to close. Some instructions would be useful. Outside looks very neglected and overgrown. No where to put soap etc in the shower. Bad back made it difficult to keep bending to the floor. Lovely setting with attention to detail this could have been much better.

Super cottage with lots of space for a large family

Great location and very spacious house.

A bit odd to bring our own double duvet as 4 double beds are advertised. Some comfortable garden chairs would be a good addition. We had a great stay.

Lovely holiday the cottage was really nice so spacious and comfortable spotless clean.

The area had lots to do and see really beautiful loved the wildlife we saw from the house highly recommend to all age groups

What a pity some of the windows are blocked with window film this makes rooms darker and not so pleasing.

Cleaning should be improved kettle and frying pans had to be scrubbed before use and the tiles at the back of the cooker were spattered with grease Good to see partridge, pheasant and rabbits in the garden and sheep over the fence. Pool table and wifi well used. Some of the entrance tracks need holes filling for an ordinary car Hosts answered queries very quickly, very quiet but pubs / restaurants close by

Really lovely holiday home, only things missing were dish cloths and sponges but I realise that was due to Covid!

Very spacious, clean & quiet. My girl's loved the pool table and dog loved the garden. Such a beautiful location too.

The only noise was from the cows and the birds. House was very spacious and comfortable particularly the bedrooms.Would definitely be happy to stay again.

What a find!

Amazing cottage which had everything we needed for a family break. Location great - on a farm a minutes drive from the village. There is a walkway from the cottage to the village via the farm track & fields which took around 15 mins. Lowick had a lovely pub & shop. The cottage itself was immaculate & the owner was on hand to answer any questions we had on arrival. All rooms are huge & great for a family getaway. Pool table was a great bonus! We will definately stay again & would highly recommend.10/10.

A great weekend spent at Mill House.

The house was ideal for a large group, the downstairs areas were very large with more than enough seating for everyone. The bedrooms were all of a very good size too, with 2 having en suites. Mill House was in a very peaceful location, but with easy access to lots of areas of interest including Holy Island. The communication from Susie was fab and some nice touches were left in the kitchen for our arrival, which were very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend a stay here and hope to return.

This was our second visit to Mill House, Lowick and we all had an amazing time.

The property is lovely, spacious with great facilities and the pool table was enjoyed by both the big and little kids! The location is great for exploring Northumberland, we had lots of fun and we will be back again, thank you!

It did not affect us but the tap water is very yellow as sourced from a bore hole which would possibly upset others.

Would benefit from a cupboard in the kitchen as there was nowhere to put our food. A very spacious and comfortable house and one we would highly recommend

Cottage was lovely.

Very clean and spacious. Facilities excellent for a large family group of 7. Spoke to owner a couple of times who was courteous and efficiently resolved our queries. Would definitely recommend this cottage as a peaceful haven and a perfect place to stay from which to discover the tourist attractions and beautiful Northumberland countryside and coast.

This is the 2nd time that I have stayed in this fabulous barn conversion and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay each time.

I cannot fault the accommodation which is very spacious and decorated to a high standard with more than enough crockery, cutlery etc for the maximum number of people staying. Mill House is ideally situated to visit all the fabulous tourist places on and around the east coast - an absolute gem of a place!

Outstanding accommodation in a beautiful area and great location.

Abundant wildlife, seals, deer, hates all seen regularly and wild. Could not recommend this high enough. Excellent!

It was a very warm and welcoming cottage.

Lovely views and surroundings with ample parking.

This is the second time we have stopped at Mill House and were all excited about staying again.

We are a family of 9 including two chidren. The Barn is very spacious with a large kitchen and lounge with plenty of seating and a snooker table at the other end. A downstairs toilet is very useful. Upstairs the bedrooms are all of a good size two of them en-suite and a large family bathroom as well as a utility room with washer and dryer. The hot water was plentiful. The property was very clean/ A welcome pack was left for us. There was everything that you could need in the kitchen a varied supply of pots and pans. Lots of magazines books games. Information on anything you are interested in. The Barn is very well situated for a lot of places. We went on the train from Berwick on Tweed to Edinburgh for the day, Eyemouth, Kelso races and Bamburgh Castle, Grace Darling Museum and the Church we also did a round walk around Norham Castle, walking on the English side of the River Tweed. We ate at the Black Bull in Lowick on two nights and another night in Wooller at Milan an italian. Both were delicious. Everything about the property description is true. We did meet the owner who was very nice. There are sheep all around the property which my grand daughters loved.

We stayed at Mill House over Christmas and it was a fantastic place to spend time with friends and family.

The living spaces are very sociable, the kitchen's well equipped, and the bedrooms are large and comfortable. The location is relatively remote, which is what we wanted, but there are some lovely walks and Lowick is a 5 minute drive away. Recommended!

Mill House was perfect!

It is in a lovely setting and is really spacious and well-planned. It is beautifully furnished and the kitchen was a joy to be in--not something I've ever said before of a holiday home! We felt welcome and enjoyed the surrounding countryside. The village of Lowick has a lovely shop and good Dining Pub. The weather was mixed but the house was warm and sheltered. That and the Northumbrian Coast and scenery made it a great holiday.

Mill house exceeded our expectations in every way.

A beautiful really spacious and well equipped barn conversion in a stunning location which although rural was only just over a mile from a lovely village with an excellent shop and two good pubs. Even though we were a group of 8 adults there was ample room for all.

Second time staying in mill house and will be staying again we all love it even the teenagers couldn’t wait to get back there it’s a home from home with the added extra of the pool table which is a big hit with the whole family The pictures don’t do it justice it’s such a lovely big house with everything you could possibly need

EXCELLENT BARN CONVERSION.

Large kitchen and dinning room you could hold a dance party. Large lounge the only complaint was that the sofas were to low and soft for us old ones the younger generation had no problems. The pool table was well used every evening no TV. The location was ideal so quite and peaceful and easy to visit Seahouses, Holy Island and Berwick and other locations to many to name. The bedrooms were ideal and adequate sizes. No problem getting Tesco to deliver groceries. Would recommend this property and the helpful owners to all and sundry. The local pubs had good food. If we go north again this will be the place stay.

We loved Mill House and had a very enjoyable week.

The cottage sleeps at least eight people and our party should have been eight but ended up being six of us. We struggled with the fridge space, especially as it is not near a supermarket so we were shopping for a few days at a time. Had there been eight of us it would have been impossible to refrigerate everything. The size of the kitchen at Mill House would easily take a bigger fridge or even an additional low fridge. Apart from that it was very clean and comfortable and so peaceful, we loved it.

Mill House is a wonderful place for a holiday.

The cottage was really good and comfortable for the eight of us staying.

It would have been nice to have a few cleaning products for the kitchen and bathroom as we were unable to clean after a meal or shower. The cottage is a bit way out from the village for anyone who likes to walk to the shop or pub and the approaching road is full of potholes, not everyone has a 4x4 vehicle .Having said that we had a great holiday and the men loved pool table.

Our party consisted of 4 couples the house was way above what we expected very large and spotless.

The only fault we found was the pool table was in the same room as the tv so very noisy and impossible to hear when someone was playing. Having said that we all had a very enjoyable break in a super place.

2nd time we've been to Mill House.

Words cannot do justice to how good it is in all respects - location, cleanliness, facilities ( pool table being my favourite!).

Great stay in a rural setting away from busy, day to day life!

Absolutely exceeded our expectations.

This as an emotional trip for my family and Mill House was simply perfect for us. The owner was more than helpful with my special requests. The House was excactly as described, if not better. There were many special finishing touches that made it special - flowers on the table, welcome pack which included Wine, biscuits, etc and even a note on the chalk board to my guests and I. Mill house is huge, yet very warm, comfortable and Cosy. We all just loved it. Thank you to Susie and Skye cottages for making our weekend memorable.

This cottage was the best cottage for large groups I have found yet.

It allowed everyone equal comfort in sleeping arrangements and bathroom facilities. The kitchen was really spacious and well equipped. The welcoming pack extremely generous. The cottage was exceptional value for money.
