“Courtyard cottage has the makings of a great cottage - warm, quiet with easy parking and very close to bus stops delivering us along scenic routes to all parts of the coastal footpath.”
It meant we could base ourselves here for a walking holiday and use public transport and still walk to a range of pubs or restaurants, supermarkets and all that lovely Alnwick has to offer. It's a perfect location for the area. The owner was friendly, helpful and responsive to a few problems we encountered. However, a few changes are needed for the cottage to fulfill it's potential and I write this feedback as an honest critique to someone starting out in the holiday let business.
The outside area could be fabulous, but is currently an unwelcoming weed-filled space and not a good first impression. The kitchen/dining area is good but there is simply not enough cutlery for 4 people (3 knives) and other kitchen equipment was only just adequate and the minimum when we did want to cook a meal. Eg, No corkscrew. No pan lids. The cottage is clean but not thoroughly cleaned. The lounge side tables are bouncy rattan-topped so we couldn't safely put down a cup or wine glass. The main bedroom is great but the 2 smaller bedrooms are very minimally furnished. Bedside reading lamps would be a good addition. The main bathroom door is half glass with full view of the toilet and bath, and there are no curtains in the bathroom or ensuite windows. These are ok if you're holidaying with close friends and family but not so relaxing if you like privacy. The bathroom door needs obscure glass or a blind fitting. This cottage could be fantastic and I hope the owner accepts feedback in good faith and makes the necessary changes so that it is more comfortable for future visitors.
