What guests are saying
A very quiet, central location.
Parking on next Street was easy each time we returned but we had good weather! Everything was great and as expected, bed comfortable (and I have various back and shoulder issues so am very difficult to please!) The shower was a bit of an issue and we could not contact owners directly to resolve so had to go through the company who took 2 days to contact owners. This was very poor and made us wondering what would have happened if the issue had been serious such as losing the key or a bigger issue. We muddled through and just before we left, they contacted us and were most apologetic. I would stay again if in the area.
Thank you, Steven. We're delighted Dodds Nook felt quiet and central, with easy parking throughout, and glad the bed was comfortable despite your back and shoulder issues, that's high praise! We're sorry about the shower temperature, and sorry it took three days for your message to reach us; it could have been sorted much sooner otherwise. Once we heard, we phoned straight away and had a plumber out the next morning. We understand your concern about what a bigger issue might have meant, and we're already looking at ways to make sure guests can contact us directly after arrival. Thank you for your patience, we'd love to welcome you back to Northumberland sometime, Alex & Hannah.
We loved Dodds Nook, it’s right in the centre of Alnwick but absolutely quiet.
It´s cosy and looks just like the pictures. What we didn’t like were the mattresses on the beds. Everything else was great. And Alnwick is a lively and lovely town in Northumberland.
Thank you for taking the time to review Dodds Nook, Kerstin. We're so pleased you loved the cottage and found it cosy, quiet and just like the pictures, despite being right in the centre of Alnwick. We're glad Alnwick itself lived up to expectations too; it really is a lovely town! We've noted what you said about the mattresses and will bear it in mind, though we have also received feedback about how well people have slept in the beds, so it may simply come down to personal preference. Thank you for staying with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Northumberland again, Alex & Hannah.
Homely and well equipped cottage, in fantastic location only a few minutes walk from town centre amenities.
Thank you, Laura! We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay in Alnwick and found the cottage homely and well-equipped. It’s lovely to hear the town centre location worked well for you too. Thank you for choosing to stay at Dodds Nook, and we hope to welcome you back to Northumberland again sometime soon, Alex & Hannah.
This was a little hidden gem.
So clean & perfect size for me & my 7yr old. Im always driving everywhere so it was great to be able to use the parking permit & just leave the car in the neighbouring street whilst we walked around, so central. Alnwick Gardens/Lilidorei were just a 9 minute walk. We liked the layout too.
Thank you so much for such lovely feedback, Lisa! It sounds like you and your 7yr old had a lovely time in Alnwick. We’re particularly pleased that the parking permit worked well for you and that you liked the layout of the cottage. And just 9 minutes to walk to the Alnwick Gardens is pretty good going! Thank you for choosing to stay at Dodds Nook. We hope to welcome you back one day, Alex & Hannah.
what a great little place.
Highly recomended.
Thank you, Guy! So pleased you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. We really appreciate the recommendation and hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again. Alex & Hannah
We regularly stay at Dodds Nook and it is always relaxing and so handy for Barter Books and other shops !
Thank you, Andrew! It is wonderful to hear that Dodds Nook has become your regular retreat. We are so glad it hits the spot for a relaxing stay, just a short stroll away from Barter Books and Alnwick town centre. We look forward to welcoming you back, Alex & Hannah
We liked the house and its situation.
However we were unable to adjust the shower temperature from much too hot, and although this was reported early on to the company (the only number we had), we received no meaningful response and no effective action or follow up, so that the shower was effectively unusable for the week. This is not acceptable. The listing should state that although the house is dog friendly, guests are asked to toilet their dogs away from the premises and the lane. This is inconvenient especially when a dog is of limited mobility as ours is.
Thank you for your feedback, Peter. We are sorry that you did not receive the support you needed from our management company when you reported difficulty adjusting the shower temperature. We have since checked and the shower is working fine. We have now put a new process in place to ensure guest queries are dealt with promptly. We will also update our listing to clarify that, as Dodds Nook has no garden, we ask guests to toilet dogs away from the property. There is a lovely churchyard with grounds at the top of the lane which is perfect for dogs. We hope you and your dog enjoyed your time in Alnwick and that Northumberland was kind to you, Alex & Hannah.
Lovely cosy cottage in a great location.
Smaller downstairs than expected but we had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend and would return.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Marsha, and for recommending Dodds Nook. We are pleased you had everything you needed and hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again, Alex & Hannah.
Situated in a quiet spot, but just a minutes walk to town and amenities the cottage makes a great base from which to explore Alnwick and the surrounding areas, which are all extremely dog friendly.
Warm, welcoming and well equipped with comfy bed- the stairs are not as steep as expected - and we had no problem with parking, which is just around the corner. Perfect for a couple (and dog!) - book with confidence- we hope to return in 2026.
Thank you so much, Denise! We're thrilled to hear that Dodds Nook made such a great base for your explorations of beautiful Northumberland with your dog. Delighted that you found the cottage warm, welcoming and well equipped, and that the stairs and parking worked well for you. We'd love to welcome you both (and your dog) back in 2026, Alex & Hannah.
The cottage was in a lovely quiet lane , very close to the centre of town .
It was very well equipped and great central heating. Would definitely recommend.
Many thanks, Lynn. It's brilliant to hear that you enjoyed quiet Dodds Lane while being close to the town centre. So pleased you found the cottage well equipped and toasty warm. We really appreciate the recommendation and hope to welcome you back to Alnwick in the future, Alex & Hannah
A perfect Boly Hole for discovering Northumberland.
Dodds Nook is well maintained and comfortable. We appreciated the 'extra's' - tea & coffee, biscuits, & dog biscuits. A parking permit is provided for a small car park nearby, and a Northumberland Council parking disc, which saved on parking. Many CP's are free though. Alnwick is a lovely town and was the perfect base. Dodd's Nook was very central and a very short walk to the main street where we found plenty of places to eat.
Thank you so much, Sara! We're delighted to hear that you found Dodds Nook a comfortable base for discovering Northumberland. Brilliant that the parking permits and central location worked so well for you. We'd love to welcome you back to Alnwick anytime! Alex & Hannah
Lovely property very comfortable and well equipped.
Parking round the corner was confusing between what was the bottom/top of the lane and no designated car space; but all seemed fine using the permit. Situated within easy walking distance of all amenities, thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Thanks so much for your lovely feedback, Marjorie. We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay and found everything comfortable and well-equipped. Thank you also for pointing out the parking confusion. Just to note for future guests, the lane is pedestrian only, so parking is just around the corner using the permit provided. We’d love to welcome you back anytime, Alex and Hannah
We were very happy with the cottage, it’s very well kept, clean with high end furnishings.
Location was spot on and the fact you got a permit, made parking a dream in a central location. We will definitely be back.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your feedback, Christian. We're really pleased to hear you found the cottage clean, comfortable, and well-located – and that the parking permit made things easier for you. We'd love to welcome you back to Dodds Nook anytime, Alex & Hannah.
Well appointed cottage, handy location.
Couldn't fault it.
Thank you so much, Colin! We're really pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Dodds Nook and found everything to your liking. It's great to know the location worked well for you too. We’d love to welcome you back next time you’re in Alnwick, Alex & Hannah.
This was a very comfortable, warm cottage, very central for the town, there were lots to visit in the area, would highly recommend recommend ,
Thank you for your feedback, Sally. We are so happy to hear you had a comfortable stay in Dodds Nook and enjoyed Northumberland. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again soon, Alex & Hannah.
Lovely place.
Perfect place for a base to explore Northumberland.
Thanks, Tom. It's great to hear you enjoyed exploring Northumberland from Dodds Nook. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again in the near future, Alex & Hannah.
As sold it was exactly as we were told
Thank you for taking the time to review Dodds Nook, Peter. It's good to hear that the cottage was exactly as you expected. We hope to welcome you to Alnwick again, Alex & Hannah.
Quirky ‘house’, just a short walk from the centre of Alnwick with lovely places to eat.
Very comfortable.
Thank you for your feedback, Joan. We are glad you had a comfortable stay at quirky Dodds Nook and enjoyed the local places to eat out. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again in the future, Alex & Hannah.
The house was very comfortable and in a good location, close to all the shops and pubs in Alnwick.
Good base for exploring Alnmouth, Craster, Bamburgh and Seahouses.
Many thanks for taking the time to leave such positive feedback, Peter. We are pleased you were comfortable at Dodds Nook and thrilled you enjoyed exploring beautiful Northumberland. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again soon, Alex & Hannah.
It was a lovely cottage in the perfect area.
Close to some lovely shops. The only thing I could mention is there is no greenery for the dogs close to the property so it was impossible to let the dogs out early in the morning or late at night, without having to get dressed and drive to a park. Apart from that, it was perfect. Thank you, we really enjoyed it.
Thank you for your feedback, Sonia. It is great to hear you found Dodds Nook 'lovely' and enjoyed staying in the area. We will add a note to our welcome pack to let guests know that the gardens surrounding the church at the top of the lane welcome dogs on leads. So glad to hear your stay was 'perfect' other than the shortage of parks in the centre of Alnwick. We hope to welcome you back in the future, Alex & Hannah.
This is the second time that we have stayed at Dodd Nook, and had been looking forward to a comfortable holiday.
However, I would like to draw your attention to the following: 1. On arrival we found dirty cups in the cupboard and dirty cutlery in the draw. these had clearly not washed up properly. 2. Some of the crockery was chipped. 3.There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom with some dubious stains on. 4. The welcoming bunch of flowers were dead, and the loaf of bread out of date. 5. The floor under the table was was dirty with crumbs and dog's hair. 6. Only 1 tablet for the dishwasher had been left, and insufficient alternative washing-up cloths provided. 7. The settee was worn with potential holes covered over with a throw. We were quite happy with the upstairs of the property. Although the cottage was comfortable, I do feel that with a little more attention to detail, a good holiday would have been great ! We have booked cottages through Sykes on many occasions, and have not always found the cottages to be in satisfactory condition. I am unsure whether we will do so again.
Thank you for your feedback, Charles. We are shocked to hear that the welcome pack was outdated and our house keeper is following up to find out what happened. Our house keeping team usually get excellent feedback so we are surprised to read your feedback. We are very sorry that you didn't receive the usual Dodds Nook welcome. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the cosy upstairs and hope you will come to Alnwick for holidays again in the future, Alex & Hannah.
The plug on the hoover had a bent connection pin, we noticed when trying to use the appliance.
Other than that it is the second time we have stayed at Dodds Nook and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
Thank you for your feedback, Andrew. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your second stay at Dodds Nook. We will let our housekeeping team know about the issue with the plug on the vacuum cleaner in case this wasn't added to the maintenance book. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again in the near future, Alex & Hannah.
Lovely cottage a stones throw away from the centre of Alnwick.
Property had everything we needed during our stay. We really enjoyed our stay - highly recommended
Thank you very much for taking time to share your feedback, Samuel and for recommending Dodds Nook. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and found everything you needed in the cottage. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again soon, Alex & Hannah.
Small but comfortable with a handy location seconds from the high street.
Thank you for taking time to share your feedback, Steven. We are glad you found the cottage comfortable and enjoyed your stay in Alnwick. We hope to welcome you back to Dodds Nook again in the future, Alex & Hannah.
Lovely cottage, immaculate, everything you need was there
Thank you very much for taking time to leave your feedback on Dodds Nook, Susan. We are delighted to hear that you found the cottage immaculate with everything you needed. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again soon, Alex & Hannah.
Very comfortable and nice welcome pack.
But only one spare toilet roll (had to buy more - annoying as we had to bring spares back in already full cases on the train), soap dispenser in bathroom empty and limited number of dishwasher tablets.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Anna. We are so pleased to hear that you found Dodds Nook comfortable and enjoyed your welcome pack. We will take all comments on board and let our housekeeping team know about the soap dispenser. As the property is self catering, items such as dishwasher tablets and toilet paper are meant as a starter. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again, Alex & Hannah.
A lovely cottage in a fantastic location.
Well set up cottage, plenty of room and very comfortable. Great location a couple of minutes stroll from the centre of Alnwick so everything virtually on your doorstep, but far enough away that you very rarely hear any noise. Lovely little outside seating area for a glass of wine of an evening watching the bats flying around between the buildings. Perfect location for exploring both the coast and inland. Parking, whilst not immediately outside the property, is no problem, just around the corner (less then a minute away). Space always available and a residents parking permit provided.
Thank you for your feedback, Stephen. We are delighted you found Dodds Nook so comfy for your stay and convenient for your Northumberland coastal and inland adventures. It is wonderful to hear that you saw the bats flying around the rooftops whilst you enjoyed a glass of wine outside in the evenings. We (and the bats) hope to welcome you back again soon, Alex & Hannah.
Quirky and comfortable accommodation.
A five-minute walk to the centre where there are good restaurants. Parking very near by and always available. Directions to the property are of a low quality.
Thank you for taking time to share your feedback, Joan. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Dodds Nook and found the cottage comfortable. We have reported the low-quality directions to Google Maps and hope these will be amended soon. We hope to welcome you back to Alnwick again in the future, Alex & Hannah.
Dodds Nook is a lovely little property situated literally within a minutes walk of the centre of Alnwick, but nevertheless a quiet retreat.
As just two people with one knee high dog it was plenty big enough for us for the few days we stayed there, but for the maximum of 4 people and 2 dogs it would be a squeeze I think. Having said this the cottage interior is modern, clean, comfortable and very well kept and any comments, concerns or suggestions written into the maintenance book by previous visitors had been noted and attended to, so I have no doubt that the couple of comments on minor things that I left will also be treated in the same way. Overall a very pleasant stay for both us and our dog, and we would happily return in future.
Thank you for your feedback, Alys. We are delighted you enjoyed Dodds Nook! Great to hear you had a lovely holiday in Alnwick with your dog. Thank you for noting any maintenance issues in our little maintenance book - these will be attended to asap. We hope to welcome you back again soon, Alex & Hannah.
We had a great time at Dodds Nook, its a lovely little cottage, very comfortable and in a fantastic location.
Many Thanks
Thank you for your feedback, Paul. We are delighted you found the cottage comfy and enjoyed your stay in Alnwick. We hope to welcome you back again soon, Alex & Hannah.
It was a beautiful property for me and boyfriend.
The house was cosy and perfect for a weekend getaway. The second bedroom is probably a little small for two people but this bother us as we didn’t use it. Location is great and overall felt like a home away from home :)
Thanks for your feedback, Niall. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Dodds Nook. We hope to welcome you and your boyfriend again soon, Alex & Hannah.
Lovely cosy cottage in the centre of Alnwick, really close to lots of pubs and restaurants but in a secluded pedestrianised area so lovely and quiet.
Well equipped kitchen and a nice hamper on arrival. It is a bit snug for 4 adults, we went as a couple and had a couple of friends stay for a night but would be perfect for 2 or 3
Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday in Alnwick and staying in Dodds Nook. We hope to welcome you back in the future, Alex & Hannah.
The property is lovely and well situated but we found it very cramped downstairs for 4 adults - 2 people actually went home after 2 nights.
During the winter we expect to spend more time at the cottage and it just wasn’t comfortable for 4 to relax on an evening . I also feel the description of courtyard with furniture is misleading as it is more of a walkway . The beds were very comfortable as was the settee. Disappointing Christmas decorations and poor welcome hamper ( one loaf of bread !) despite reading comments about the wonderful welcome packs previous guests had received - especially difficult to swallow given we had paid a premium price for new year. The bathroom requires an extractor fan as it was too cold to open the window and when four people have showered there is a lot of condensation. Diffusers are a nice touch but all were empty! Internet did not work all week. Whilst furnishings etc are good and there are plenty of kitchen utensils plates etc I found the lack of attention to detail and care disappointing! Not the level I expect of a 4✔️ Sykes cottage.
Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased to hear that you found Dodds Nook lovely, clean, and well situated with comfortable beds and settee. We are sorry you found it too small for your party. Thank you for your feedback regarding the description of the outside space - we are new to owning a holiday cottage so are eager to learn from feedback and will review the description asap. Thank you for letting us know how much you would have valued a seasonal gift for your New Year stay – this is a lovely idea, and we have now arranged to provide seasonal gifts during all holiday seasons going forward. We have also started to gather all of the welcome pack into one place as, although the fresh bread was in the guest info basket, the welcome pack had been spread throughout the cottage including: butter and milk in the fridge; a generous selection of black, green and herbal teas in the kitchen along with a pyramid of miniature jams, coffee pods, sugar, salt, pepper, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets; and shampoo, body wash, body lotion and specialty soaps in the bathroom. There are also usually fresh seasonal flowers on the dining table to welcome all of our guests, so we hope these were also provided for your arrival – if not, we apologise and have now put a backup plan in place in case the local florist closes due to seasonal holidays. Thank you for letting us know the room diffusers needed to be topped up – these are now refilled with organic scents from a local fair trade shop. We have also added a new maintenance book to the guest info basket so that minor maintenance issues and suggestions can be noted there. We are very sorry to hear that the WiFi didn’t work during your stay - please be assured that we logged a formal complaint with BT and an engineer has now rectified an external fault. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback - we wish you all the very best for 2023. Best wishes, Alex.
We have had a lovely stay at Dodds Nook!
It is the perfect location in the centre of Alnwick. The cottage is modern and cosy and has everything you could wish for during your stay. We were over the moon with everything and will definitely be staying again! Thank you very much☺️
We're really pleased you've had a lovely stay. Thank you for the feedback. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future, Alex & Hannah.
