“The overall experience of our stay in Alnwick at Lavender Cottage was good.”

The cottage is very well situated in the heart of the market town; being very close to the Playhouse, a range of bars and restaurants, shopping facilities and major attractions including Alnwick Castle, Alnwick Gardens and Barter Books. Perhaps the property could have benefited from a Smart TV in the lounge. Bedside lamps in the main bedroom would also have been a welcome addition.

“Had a fantastic stay at Lavender cottage last week.”

The cottage had everything we needed and was really clean and comfortable, and was so convenient for all the amenities that Alnwick had to offer. Situated just 2 minutes from the castle and plenty of cafes and restaurants in what is a lovely town centre. Would highly recommend and would stay again if in the area.

“What a great little cottage for our weeks stay in Northumberland.”

Alnwick is very central for everything we wanted to do. The cottage had all the amenities required, the beds were very comfortable and the place was spotless. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

“We loved the location of the cottage and it’s cosiness.”

The kitchen was well equipped and the Aga made it very welcoming.The shower could have been better and possibly needs replacing though had good thermostatic control.The WiFi dropped out regularly which could be difficult for anyone wanting to work.However these were minor and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

“This is a lovely home from home cottage.”

It is situated in the centre of Alnwick just a stones throw from the Castle and Gardens but in a secluded, private position with a small, attractive garden. We found the seating in the lounge a little uncomfortable and the sofas are worn. My knees found the stairs and steps a little challenging but manageable. Overall, though, the cottage has everything you could possibly need. We even came to appreciate the aged AGA cooker! The cottage is very convenient to access the many attractions Northumberland has to offer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lavender Cottage.

“A truly wonderful little cottage right next to the castle.”

It accommodates 4 people and has a generous supply of useful kitchen utensils and crockery. The kichen houses an Aga, keeping the kichen nice and warm, but it requires getting used to for cooking.(alternatives are offered) . The games in the cabinet were another extra plus. The property owner provides a parking permit (to be returned after the stay) for the restricted parking outside the house, but being a touristy street a parking space is not guaranteed at busy time, but we found it easy to find a space later in the evenings. Our family of 4 adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Lavender Cottage (there was a large, lovely fragrant lavender bush in the small garden )

“We stayed for a full week in May, at Lavender Cottage, for my Birthday.”

The cottage was just as expected from the website. There was everything we needed for a great time. The location is superb and sitting out in the lovely garden area, was relaxing. It was always cosy to enjoy our evenings. Parking was always available. It is a hidden gem and would return and recommended.

“Fabulous cottage.”

Warm, comfy, inviting, beautiful garden which we utilised on an evening with a glass of wine. Great cooking facilities. Set in a superb little courtyard. Ample parking. Picnics in Alnwick gardens during the day. Restaurants on the evening- all of which were superb. Lavender cottage is brilliant!

“We loved Lavender Cottage.”

It was clear that this was a well-loved home, not just a holiday let. The cottage was warm and comfortable and very well equipped. Cupboards were stocked to the point that we didn't need to buy any basics like foil or bin bags. I'd been a bit anxious about parking in the street, but by 5 pm every day, there was plenty of space, as Bailiffgate is permit-controlled. Our one gripe was the Aga - we loved the the fact that it was still cooking after living a very long life, but it took a very long time to cook anything in, as its temperature in the main oven didn't really go above 140 C. We ended up getting back to the cottage earlier so we could get our 3-year-old's tea cooking sooner. All in all, we loved the cottage and we were left wishing we'd booked more than 4 nights!

“Perfectly situated quiet cottage.”

Possibly 60m from the castle. Aga was a delight, never having used one before. So much to see in the area. Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Hawick House and the beautiful gardens of Cragside. A delightful week.

Clean, comfortable, well-equipped, and perfectly located for exploring. We could have done with staying another week and I would definitely like to return. My first experience using an Aga was a positive one and I imagine the cottage would be lovely and cosy in the cooler months. Some lovely pubs and restaurants nearby but you definitely need to book ahead! Thank you

“This is a wonderful, homely cottage which we would highly recommend.”

It is in a central location in Alnwick yet tucked away in its own private courtyard with a sunny spot for breakfast and evening meal.The Aga was fun to use and made the cottage very snug. There was a fantastic supply of local maps and guides, as well as a huge library of videos/DVDs for all tastes.The beds were comfy, the hot water plentiful and the kitchen well stocked with everything you might need. A perfect place to stay.

Even the access through a passage to Nurses Yard is like a trip through history. Extremely welcoming with an AGA warming the kitchen as you enter. Wonderfully convenient location in an historical part of Alnwick and in walking distance of the castle, garden and town restaurants and pubs.

The property

Lavender Cottage, built around 1750, is a delightful stone cottage tucked away in a quiet secluded sunny courtyard off Bailiffgate in the historic conservation area of Alnwick.

Just 100 yards from the Castle, which adjoins the Alnwick Gardens, and 400 yards from the cafes, shops, supermarket and other town amenities.

There are country and river walks from the doorstep.

Lavender Cottage is equipped to high standards and is also suitable out of season with its cosy Aga. GROUND FLOOR Kitchen/dining room with gas Aga cooker, two ring electric hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine and TV. Living room with wooden panels, gas coal effect stove, TV/DVD, CD/Radio, DVD collection, books and games. FIRST FLOOR Bedroom 1 with double bed.

ALNWICK

Alnmouth 4 miles; Bamburgh 15 miles; Rothbury 10 miles.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.
