Moorlaws Farm

For those seeking peace and solitude it is a perfect location but still not too far from the market town of Alnwick.

The accommodation was comfortable, warm and clean but there were no frills and this is reflected in the price. In the round the accommodation offers really good value for money.

Really enjoyed our stay and the cottage was fantastic for our requirements.

Remote location on the farm, but knew that when booking. Nice touches by the owner (Henry) who had left some drinks and snacks as a welcome treat. Great communication prior to arrival and everything went smoothly, so left Henry to the lambing! Would recommend.

Lovely cottage on a working farm.

Very warm and cosy, and Henry was really friendly and helpful. A remote location, although less than 10 mins drive into Alnwick centre. Would definitely stay again, and imagine it would be beautiful in the summer as we could hear owls, and plenty of other wildlife!

We have just returned from our second stay at Moorlaws Farm Cottage, where we spent an extremely pleasant week.

It is not the most up-to-date property we have ever visited, but it is extremely clean, comfortable and welcoming. It had everything that we needed for a lovely holiday It is a delight to stay on a farm, where our granddaughter loved seeing the cattle, sheep, geese and chickens. Henry, the Farmer, is extremely helpful if you need anything. The views from the accommodation are magnificent. It is in a good position to visit the many attractions of Northumberland. Alnwick is about 10 minutes drive and the coast less than 30 minutes away. It was our second stay, but hopefully. it won't be our last.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful position.

Near to Alnwick yet you feel like you’re miles from anywhere. Wonderful views. It’s an easy drive to get to so many beautiful places as it’s not far from the A1. We found it really cosy and comfortable with everything we needed. A good garden for our dogs too. We’d love to stay again.

Moorlaws Farm cottage was exactly as described and we were very pleased with our stay.

The owners had left a lovely welcome basket on our arrival and were on hand should we need them without being intrusive at all. The cottage was left very clean with plenty of fresh towels and some little shampoo and shower gel bottles which was a nice touch. The kitchen had a good range of pans and baking trays, so was easy enough to prepare evening meals. The location is quiet out on the moor which we found a peaceful retreat after busy days out to castles, beaches etc. We felt the location was a good base as it was an easy commute to most places of interest.

We loved the character of the building and the location.

It was nicely furnished, clean and well equipped as our base for coastal walking, a mountain bike ride in the cheviots and some castle visits. Overall we had no complaints. Nice cooking facilities, a cosy lounge and a log burner ticked all the cottage boxes. If we were to nit pick, it would have been great to have a pair of kitchen scissors in the drawer, but we survived! The shower water pressure also wasn’t great, but we appreciate the place isn’t a spa and the facilities fit the character and vibe of this lovely farm, surrounded by livestock and wildlife. Would visit again.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

Lots of unexpected extras such as fresh eggs, welcome basket, wine and beer. Plenty of room, kitchen equipment plentiful, lovely and warm and the beds were extremely comfortable! Henry was available if required without being intrusive and was very pleasant to talk to. All in all, we had a superb holiday and cannot fault it - we will definitely return if we’re holidaying in that area again

Geese, sheep, cattle, hens galore! Very comfortable and clean. Friendly and helpful hosts, 10 mins drive into Alnwick so perfect location for exploring. Dog friendly

Wonderful cottage in beautiful and peaceful setting.

Cottage had everything you needed and lovely views and surrounded by all the different farm animals. Henry is a wonderful host, very helpful. Rural yet close to local amenities, really is a home from home, would definitely return to this little gem.

We really enjoyed our stay.

It was warm and cosy (February). it had everything we needed. The location was stunning with views of The Cheviots and far enough away for total peace and quiet. Henry the owner/Farmer was very welcoming. Ideal for trips out and we enjoyed exercising our dog at the many local beaches (less mud and cleaning) which were not far away. Alnwick itself is beautiful but so many other places to visit. Definitely recommended.

Very quiet and comfortable farm cottage that has been nicely decorated and renovated.

Remote enough to feel like you're away from it all for a while but really convenient for Alnwick and all the Northumberland destinations. A couple of free range animal visitors but we saw that as a plus not a minus, fun and not a problem at all. We really enjoyed our week.

The perfect location if you want to feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, whilst only 10 mins from everything you need and a short jaunt to all the best beaches. Henry was very welcoming and the cottage was exactly as we expected. The kids and dogs loved watching the farm animals. We’d definitely return.

The cottage was comfortable well equipped and very warm and cosy. You were right out in the beautiful countryside but within easy reach of Alnwick and the beautiful Northumberland beaches.

Had a great time at the cottage!

The place was spacious, clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the fact that it was in the middle of nowhere. A new bathroom heater had been installed the day before we arrived, which was perfect for the cooler evenings/mornings. I normally find the mattresses on the beds are too soft, but this one was quite firm, which was a bonus. There are one or two steps throughout the cottage as you enter each room, but should be easily accessible for most people/dogs. The garden was secure enough for our dog, who wasn’t bothered in the slightest by the sheep and geese on the other side of the garden wall. Although situated on a working farm, there was no excessive noise, just the lovely sounds of the countryside. The owners were very friendly but not intrusive at all. This is one of the best cottages we’ve stayed at and would definitely return again!

We've had lots of self catering cottage holidays over the years and Moorlaws Cottage is up there with the best of them.

The location was very peaceful and quiet easy to find and within very easy reach of Alnwick. The only problems were the suicidal pheasants on the approach roads!! -We didn't hit any though!

It was clean and comfortable and the dogs loved it too! We will definitely be back. Henry the farmer was lovely and friendly but not imposing.

Amazing location and beautiful cottage, we loved everything about it!

The property was perfect for families with dogs.

The views were amazing and the cottage was very comfortable. Situation was perfect for getting out and about to all the beauty spots. Shower needs attention as hot water was not always available. Nice welcome pack.

Whilst the property appeared welcoming on arrival, further inspection revealed an iced up and dirty freezer, a filthy oven and grill (food remains could have been chipped off!

) with no light, cooker hood not working, leak under the sink, cold bathroom and coffee beans in a welcome pack but no grinder supplied. There were no serving dishes or salad bowls (we had to dish up from the saucepans). Bathroom cold despite switching on radiator hours before use. Microwave was old but clean. With a little care this could be a lovely property in a quiet area but close to attractions, but suffers from lack of care and maintenance. Did not see the owner until end of our stay, by then too late to complain. We ate out all week or had salad.

My wife and I and our two young Labradors had a wonderful week at Moorlaws farm.

Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome. The property was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The welcome pack was gratefully accepted. Henry, the farmer, popped over to say hello, soon after we got there. We wanted to be able to take the dogs for walks, off lead, and he allowed us to use the hay field next to the cottage, which the dogs loved, as did we. The views over the fields, with the Cheviots in the background, were magnificent, especially at sundown. Looking at the photographs of the property, when we booked, we were a little concerned that the garden wall would not contain our dogs. As it turned out, we were right. However, they were only able to jump into the enclosure next to the cottage, where there were geese, for the duration of our stay. For one dog, one visit was enough and he was soon sent packing by the feisty birds. Our other dog went back a couple of times, but was made to see who was boss, and it wasn't him. He soon curbed his inquisitive antics and accepted that he was the underdog.. Considering that there are cows, sheep, horses, chickens and geese on the farm, Henry was remarkably chilled about our dogs. I would not recommend it for owners of aggressive dogs. For readers of this review, it may appear that we felt overlooked by Henry and his family. This was, most definitely not the case. Henry was there when we wanted advice about the cottage and the locality, but we hardly saw him other than that. We were left to feel totally at home and incredibly relaxed. Alnwick is only a ten minute drive away and is a wonderful little town. We enjoyed several shopping and coffee and cake trips. We had excellent days out to Cragside, Alnwick Castle and a boat trip, with the dogs, to the Farne Islands. There is so much to do and see within a relatively short distance from the farm. We left wanting more and look forward to returning..

We really enjoyed our stay at moorlaws farm.

It is lovely and quiet and although remote it was easy to drive to the nearest town for the big supermarkets etc. The garden was ideal for our 2 dogs which was safely enclosed. They also enjoyed going to the nearby beaches which they were allowed onto and being allowed into certain shops. The cottage was very clean and spacious and necessary amenities were there. We are definitely looking forward to booking again.

This is a lovely old cottage in a beautiful, quiet location.

It is within easy reach of all of Northumberland's tourist spots and yet quite rural. The best of both worlds.

A great place for us and our two dogs, nice secure garden.

Beautiful scenery and close proximity to the town of Albwick, national park and beaches. We would definitely book again if holidaying in that area. Nigel and Penny

Lovely welcome from our hosts The cottage had everything we needed for our short break Two lovely bedrooms and comfy beds and a cosy lounge with stove We didn’t use conservatory and out door areas due to the really bad weather but they would be great in the summer The location is great with great views all around and it’s not as remote as it feels only 10 minutes drive from the centre of Alnwick Loved it despite the rain low cloud and howling winds we didn’t want to leave and would definitely go again
