“My wife and I and our two young Labradors had a wonderful week at Moorlaws farm.”
Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome. The property was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The welcome pack was gratefully accepted. Henry, the farmer, popped over to say hello, soon after we got there. We wanted to be able to take the dogs for walks, off lead, and he allowed us to use the hay field next to the cottage, which the dogs loved, as did we. The views over the fields, with the Cheviots in the background, were magnificent, especially at sundown.
Looking at the photographs of the property, when we booked, we were a little concerned that the garden wall would not contain our dogs. As it turned out, we were right. However, they were only able to jump into the enclosure next to the cottage, where there were geese, for the duration of our stay. For one dog, one visit was enough and he was soon sent packing by the feisty birds. Our other dog went back a couple of times, but was made to see who was boss, and it wasn't him. He soon curbed his inquisitive antics and accepted that he was the underdog..
Considering that there are cows, sheep, horses, chickens and geese on the farm, Henry was remarkably chilled about our dogs. I would not recommend it for owners of aggressive dogs.
For readers of this review, it may appear that we felt overlooked by Henry and his family. This was, most definitely not the case. Henry was there when we wanted advice about the cottage and the locality, but we hardly saw him other than that. We were left to feel totally at home and incredibly relaxed.
Alnwick is only a ten minute drive away and is a wonderful little town. We enjoyed several shopping and coffee and cake trips. We had excellent days out to Cragside, Alnwick Castle and a boat trip, with the dogs, to the Farne Islands. There is so much to do and see within a relatively short distance from the farm. We left wanting more and look forward to returning..
