    “Worst accommodation we've ever encountered.”

This gloomy terrace house hadn't been properly cleaned in months, carpets were matted with long hair and had a thick grey accumulation of dust around the edges. Laminate flooring in the dining room was dirty and had an accumulation of crumbs and cobwebs. Cutlery, crockery and utensils all dirty (Inc cutlery tray). Kitchen worktops dirty and old vegetable seeds etc. Tea towel provided was already used and wet. Oven gloves were disgustingly dirty and stained. Interior of microwave was ...

Interior of microwave was filthy. Various windows were dirty inside and out (especially kitchen). Banister rail was filthy. Thick (old) dust covered cobwebs hanging from all ceilings (worst above main bed). Smoke alarm battery hanging out. No TV signal on either televisions. Rips in dining room sofa. 2nd bedroom wall stained and dirty looking. Daughter wouldn't sleep in it! Mirrors looking like they've all been wiped with a dirty cloth. Door mat very old, almost bald and covered in moss. The dirtiest front door on the street, empty window box and weeds growing up the front of the building. BBQ not even assembled (still in box). There is not 'parking for 2 cars'. It's on street parking on a first come basis. On arrival we had to park at the opposite end of the street. The whole property is gloomy and tired. The sofa is very uncomfortable and we're not used to polyester bedding! No Guest book - assume to hide previous disappointed guests We contacted Sykes on day one of our 7 night holiday with our finding and they agreed to contact the owner. Apparently the owner was going to investigate and get back to us. We heard nothing and left after 5 nights (glad to be back home in our clean and comfortable house). We left the property 100 times cleaner than we found it. I have since raised an official complaint with Sykes and apparently the owner of this grubby accommodation doesn't even want to offer an apology! BEST AVOIDED - You've been warned! I wish we could upload photos, as we've taken (and submitted) 20 that would make your stomach churn.

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
