What guests are saying
An excellent property, finished to a very high standard.
Ideal for parties of 6-8
A last minute booking and what a place.
Admittedly we only live an hour away but felt like a real holiday. The house was perfect, great location, lots of space and all important off street / secure parking. Would not think twice about recommending..
Although very happy indeed with the cleanliness and facilities in the house itself there were a few disappointments with the garden area.
We couldn't allow our two dogs outside without being on the lead because the garden wasn't secure. They could walk straight through both closed gates. There were also no comfortable seats outside so we couldn't even all sit out together in this glorious hot weather. No barbecue either.
Dear Hilary I thank you for your comments and I am pleased that the cottage met your expectations for cleanliness and facilities. I would clarify the 3 points raised are not necessarily valid or fair. In our description of the Hemmel we do not state that we provide a BBQ as the implications of hygiene on shared BBQs is always a concern to the majority of our guests. To accommodate the use of disposable BBQs we have provided a slate bench under the balcony where they can be placed. In respect to the lack of comfortable seating we have the aluminum benches which sit 10 under the balcony and seating for 10 on the balcony. The cushions for the furniture on the balcony are in the large storage box on the balcony. We keep them in the box in case of rain. We have gates on the property but again have not stated that the garden is fully enclosed for pets as they come in all shapes and sizes. As you may understand our reviews are very important to us for future business and losing 20% of our rating seems a little unfair for us for as they are not in the description and would kindly ask that you consider an edit of your review and score.as a small family business we try our best to ensure a perfect holiday.
The Hemmel is an outstanding property ‘fit for a king.
’ We were 4 adult couples and we loved the location (5 minutes from 2 excellent pubs), the chip van in Beadnell and the wonderful walks.
Dear Harold many thanks for the great review I hope that you enjoyed that you come back again soon.
Had a great stay at The Hemmel celebrating my 66th birthday with my children, grandchildren and other family members.
It suited our needs perfectly as it was great for our dogs and we needed to park quite a few cars. Great quiet location for visiting all what the area had to offer. Beach just a 10 minute walk and lovely pubs in the village. We hope to return in the not too distant future. Thank you.
Many thanks for the valued feedback we aim to deliver a perfect getaway to the stunning Northumberland coast. Hope to see you again.
My husband and I stayed at the Hemmel with our son and his family.
We loved the house which was very clean on our arrival. The house was ideal for three generations and we walked to the beach and into the village where there are excellent pubs and cafes. There was ample parking for three cars and plenty of outside furniture. The views over the surrounding countryside are lovely. Inside there was a welcome hamper including bread, milk, butter, wine, tea and cake etc and plenty of dishwasher tablets. The kitchen is very well- equipped with glasses and crockery. The four bathrooms are excellent with fluffy towels and constant hot water and the beds were extremely comfortable with good quality pillows and linen. We stayed for a long weekend and enjoyed cooking at the house and eating in Beadnell and Bamburgh. We hope to visit again.
Wonderful to have you stay and really look forward if you can return.
We were 6 adults and two young children.
We all really enjoyed the Hemmel. Lots of space, comfortable and warm (it was chilly outside). The log burning stove was very nice. The living area being on the 1st floor meant we had a great view out over the fields. Our 7 year old grandson wants to come back to celebrate his 10th birthday!
We are so pleased that you had a wonderful stay and welcome you back any time!
Fantastic property.
Very comfortable, light and spacious and extremely clean and well maintained. The owner was also very helpful and responsive
David welcome back anytime!
The Hemmel was the most beautifully appointed, comfortable, spacious house for our party of 8 adults and one baby.
It was superbly equipped with everything you could possibly need. The quality of the furnishings and linens was excellent. Location was perfect with a footpath walk directly to the sea and a.short stroll to the centre of the village for pubs and shops. Highly recommended
Dear Shirley Many thanks for wonderful review and I am so glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. Please come and visit us again soon.
Stunning property, great space for a large family gathering and good location for Beadnell Towers and the Beach.
Heating issue resolved quickly with maintenance although master en suite shower still running cold when we left (no real issue as house bathroom next door). Would recommend!
Dear Clare Many thanks for the wonderful review and so pleased you had a great time with your family. Sorry about the shower and the wind blowing out the pilot light during the storm. We are pleased Steve came and fixed it quickly. Since your visit we have fitted a new shower as the temperature control had failed. Hope you come back soon
Enjoyed our stay & great location for the beach-we’ve booked again for next year Having access to a BBQ would be great especially during the summer
Dear Linda I truly appreciate the 5 star review and so pleased that you are coming again next year, We have a slate bench downstairs next to the patio where it is designed for portable BBQs as permanent once are a little bit of a hygiene issue with multiple users. Message me next year and I will make sure there are some portable ones for you to use when you stay. Regards Steve
This house was ideal for a family get together.
The eating and living area upstairs worked well. The house was well equipped with kitchen utensils, towels etc. The house is located on the edge of the village and just a 15 minute walk from the shop. It was very quiet. Our only complaint is that the temperature regulator on the shower in the main bedroom was stuck on hot which made the shower unusable....this problem had been highlighted by the previous occupant. Otherwise a lovely peaceful stay in a beautiful location
Dear Bill Many thanks for the review and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry that we could not get a plumber in on the Friday as we only have a 6 hour window for repairs. We have now had opportunity to get the thermostat in the shower repaired. I hope you managed with the other showers available in the property. We would love to see you again in the future. Best Regards Steve
Great house for big get togethers for quality time together.
Dear Brenda Many thanks for the positive feedback. I hope you and your family had a terrific weekend and hopefully will see you again. Regards Steve
We absolutely loved our stay at The Hemmel.
The house is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It was perfect for our large family group. We loved its location as the last house of the delightful village of Beadnell . We spent a lot of time enjoying the balcony with its lovely views over the fields. We'd love to return.
Dear John So pleased you enjoyed your stay and we welcome you back any time. Regards Steve
Loved our stay at The Hemmel.
It had everything we were looking for and more in terms of space, beautiful surroundings and accessibility to local amenities. The house is stunning and our family of 7 adults and 2 children had a wonderful stay. Good pub at the bottom of the road serving excellent food too. I would suggest getting the owners number prior to arrival as the contact with Sykes was very poor when trying to get information prior to arrival. 10 out of 10 for the house etc tho.
Dear Elaine Many thanks for the wonderful review! I am delighted that you had such a great time and would love to welcome you back anytime to stay again.
Just enjoyed a wonderful stay with family over the bank holiday weekend.
The location is superb for the beach and there are plenty of local facilities within walking distance. The property itself is well fitted out and has superior furnishings to usual rentals. It offers very comfortable facilities in both the living and bedroom areas. We had an issue with the hot water but it was sorted within 2 hours by the owner. Would definitely recommend
Dear Janice Many thanks for your wonderful review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the birthday celebrations with your friends and family. Sorry about the mishap with the hot water but pleased we could resolve it quickly and hope it didn’t impact your stay. We would be pleased to see you again in the future.
Excellent stay in a beautiful location!
We all had such a wonderful weekend and loved how close we were to the beach and local pubs which were both short walks away. Heating and water went off at one point but this was very quickly resolved as the wind had blew out the flame on the boiler and Steve sorted it quickly. Thank you, we’re all missing being in such a lovely peaceful place.
Dear Rebecca we are delighted you and your party had a great time at the Hemmel and Beadnell. We would love to see you all again soon. Best Regards Steve
What a fabulous Easter weekend we had at The Hemmel.
Party of 7, 5 adults and 2 children, loved spending time together in this wonderful home. Welcome basket was a fabulous way to start the weekend and had lots of treats for both the adults and children. Living areas were comfortable and we enjoyed being able to sit in the different areas outside as well - the children loved playing Boules which we found in the garden! Bedrooms were very comfortable with ample space for us all. Beadnell is a beautiful place to visit with pub, restaurant and the beach all within easy walking distance. We will most definitely be back to stay again in the future. Thank you!
Dear Anna Many thanks for the great review! Delighted that you enjoyed the stay. We hope you wish to return.
We had a lovely stay in what is a beautiful property.
Very comfortable and very well stocked with everything you need and a Welcome pack that was much appreciated. Within a short walk of two pubs that serve lovely meals and a 10 minute walk to the beach. All in all a very good choice
Dear Ann Many thanks for the time you took to provide the positive feedback. It’s does so much good for our business as we rely so much on keeping our guest happy! We would love to see you again next year! Regards Steve
On our arrival on Friday the 28th March everything appeared okay, however around 10:30pm that evening there was a dreadful smell of sewerage from one of the guest bedrooms.
As it was quite late and the likelihood of getting anyone to attend was minimal, the guest using that bedroom had an uncomfortable night’s sleep on the sofa in the lounge. I called the numbers provided the following morning to report this issue. I then had to follow this call up again later that day, as I had heard nothing back from Sykes. During a ‘third’ chasing call that day to Sykes, I was informed that our contract was not with Sykes but with the owner of the property, who had been contacted but apparently no response had been given at that time. During that day, in the ‘welcome folder’ in the property I had found a number (seemingly a late addition written in biro) for the properties ‘handyman’. I called this number and left a message as to the issues we were having, as by now we had also discovered that patio doors to another of the guest bedrooms could not be locked and had been open all night. To his credit the maintenance man called me back within about 15minutes and said he would be on-site in further 15 minutes, which he was. It was discovered that the sewerage smell was down to a ‘trap’ in the shower waste of the bathroom to the bedroom in question which he re-fitted. We also managed to lock the patio doors but only by the maintenance man putting his full weight against the outside of the doors with me forcing the locking handle up internally. Subsequent to this we decided not to open these doors again. This as you might guess didn’t put me in a great ‘frame of mind’ as I spent a lot of my first day making calls. Subsequently, following the issues that happened on our first evening and the security of the bedroom external doors, small things became more of an issue. These being; The showers in two of the bedrooms could not be regulated for temperature, one of which was the shower I was using. This meant the temperature of the water was so hot it was only bearable for a really short period of time. Altering the temperature control ‘fully’ in either direction made no difference to the temperature. It suggested that the thermostat had gone on both shower fittings. The temperature would not have been ideal for young children. The utilities in the kitchen are at best poor. The oven was filthy, the cooking utensils (saucepans etc.) had to be washed before they could be used as they were covered in a film of grease, the dishwasher didn’t have any salt. The freezer needed to be completely defrosted. The door to the balcony off the kitchen also looked to be suffering from the same problem as the one on the ground floor bedroom (i.e) once opened it was very difficult to close and secure. This was disappointing as it meant the balcony could not be used during our stay. There wasn’t a cooking knife that could cut anything, even after trying to sharpen them on a sharpener I managed to find in a drawer. It all sounds like a real moan but the property for a week was approximately £2k, so I was expecting better things On the upside this property is superbly located, very spacious with a contemporary feel. The bedrooms were also very comfortable but it needs a serious overhaul of the facilities.
Dear Gary I was extremely surprised and disappointing to read your lengthy review that you have obviously spent considerable time compiling. I understand that after noticing the smell that you decided not to report it immediately and waited to until the next day. You noticed that we had left the number of the handyman in the welcome pack which we added in biro. My sincere apologies that it was not typed as he had recently changed his number and refreshing the welcome pack is on my to do list. I am also sorry that when you contacted Sykes / NCCC that you didn’t get an immediate response from the care team. When you contacted me at around 3pm on the Saturday I was pleased to be able to send Steve the handyman within 20 mins to resolve the issues you had with the smell (due to the shower trap not being seated properly) and to help you close the multi lock door (which requires you to lift the handle be before closing). During our conversation I do wish you had mentioned all the other issues that you had encountered and perhaps we could have resolved them at that time also. We do our best to equip the cottage to cover all of our guests needs and you will notice from our other reviews of average 4.8 that we consistently meet these needs. That being said I value your feedback and wish that you had brought it to my attention when we spoke on your 2nd day.and I would have done my utmost to remedy the problem that you encountered to ensure that you fully enjoyed your stay at our property. Best Regards Steve
This house was beautiful & perfect for our family.
The welcome basket was amazing & very thoughtful. Very well decorated & well equipped. We had a second fridge which was a god send for over the Christmas period. Very warm & Toastie. We would all rebook in a heartbeat. Thank you ❤❤
Dear Lynn Many thanks for your kind comments. Please in the future if you visit and you are concerned about cleanliness contact the office and they will resend cleaners to ensure it meets your standards to 100%. We hope to see you again. Regards
We had a brilliant week at the Hemmel in Beadnell.
The property definitely deserved five stars. Perfect in every way. We will certainly return in the future.
Dear Patricia Many thanks for your kind comments and 5 star rating. We would be delighted to have you back anytime. Best Regards Steve
We have just returned from a glorious week at The Hemmel.
A gorgeous house ideally located in Beadnell on the beautiful Northumberland coast. All creature comforts catered for to a very high standard. It was so lovely we have already booked for a fortnight next year.
Dear Andrew I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much that you have booked again for next year. We look forward to seeing you again in summer of 2025. Best Regards
The house is beautiful.
Beds comfy. Kitchen well equipped. Lovely welcome package. Living area just gorgeous. Very tastefully decorated. Situated in Beadnell which is just so perfect with lovely places to eat 5 mins walk and 10 mins walk to beach. Plenty of outside seating. I would def stay again.
Dear Ciaran, Many thanks for your kind words. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and would consider returning. I am sorry to hear that the property didn’t hit the 5 stars in relation to the cleaning. We as owners strive to have the property spotless via our cleaning contractors. Please in future if there are any concerns with the cleaning report it to the letting agent to could request the cleaners to return to ensure it’s to a perfect standard.
Lovely place, had a great time.
A couple of issues as follows, moved from main bedroom to twin room because lack of blind on top window meant too light in early morning, also the room never got warm, in fact it was cold. Ensure bathroom in twin room worked fine but there was always an odour Door from kitchen to balcony was difficult to lock the door needs adjustment
Dear Grant many thanks for your positive feedback. We note your comments and wanted to inform you that the blind in the main bedroom is operated via the remote control which is on the wall next to the bed. I will check and ensure the battery’s are not exhausted. We also provide an oil heated radiator in the main bedroom due to the radiators being the last on the heating circuit. We have noted that the door on the balcony had been stiff and since then have had it adjusted. We welcome the comments and hope you would consider The Hemmel again for future stays.
We had a great time staying at the Hemmel .
The house was gorgeous and accommodated 10 of us perfectly. There was everything we needed , the house was well equipped and spacious. The beach was just a short walk away as was the pub , The craster arms which we ate in a couple of time’s which offered great service and food .. The location was great offering short drives to seahouses , Bamburgh and surrounding areas . I would definitely love to return.
Dear Julie Many thanks for your kind words. We would love to welcome you back any time.
We loved The Hemmel Big spacious house Ideal for a family or large group Great to have off street parking and a private enclosed garden for dogs Everything was top quality Thank you
Dear Anne many thanks for your kind words. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and welcome you back in the future.
Amazing property.
10/10. The owners have put a lot of effort and thought into the property's finish right down to the coasters. It's very unique and with no cheap tack around. The bedrooms have a great finish and also showers. The kitchen is smartly finished with granite tops and a spare fridge for all the extras. The large drying room/laundry area was a dream, particularly with the many kids and guests staying. Huge kitchen table to take everyone for dinner. Comfy sofa in the evening to put your feet up in front of the log fire. Great location with a short walk (2 mins) to a pub and a couple of restaurants with great food. There is a park for kids nearby, and the beach is within walking distance. We didn't use our car once until we left. I have already booked here again.
A lovely house, unusual in having the living area upstairs.
It is very convenient for the beach and Beadnell where there are several places to eat. Very dog friendly.
Hi Dianne, Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We’re delighted you enjoyed your stay at The Hemmel. We think it’s rather special too …
Enjoyed our stay.
Would be useful to provide an optional sun shade for the outside balcony.
A beautiful very spacious cottage that created a brilliant weeks family holiday celebrating our 30th Anniversary.
Stunning views and perfect location. Thank you.
Thank you for your lovely feedback and we hope to welcome you back soon.
Beautiful house, very relaxing, just a few minutes stroll to the beach.
Pub and cafe just around the corner. Mobile fish and chip bar on the village Green most nights. Would highly recommend.
Thank you for your wonderful 100% score of The Hemmel. It’s hugely appreciated by all of us. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
A fabulous cottage set in a lovely convenient location.
Both outside and inside the facilities were 10/10. Thank you for making our stay perfect. Only one thing that may help future guests choosing to stay with small children the option to have a stair gate for the inside stair case. But we can’t fault our experience. Thank you for making our celebratory weekend perfect.
Thank you for such wonderful feedback! Our family love The Hemmel too and we’re so thrilled that you enjoyed your stay. We’ll look at options for a stair gate.
Fab house we all had a great stay just wished the garden was dog friendly and we could have let him out Everything we needed and more Thank you sally reilly
Great family house in a perfect location.
We had a large family gathering and it worked for all ages. Very practical House with a safe garden>
Nothing but positive to feedback.
The house is lovely. We were 6 adults and 4 kids ranging from 11 to 16 and all had a fantastic time. Plus a dog! The house is so well appointed, comfortable and spacious. The kitchen has everything you need to cook at home. While we weren't able to take advantage of the outside seating areas during our stay as the weather wasn't good enough, they looked lovely and would tempt us back for a 'summer' holiday. The location is great on the edge of the village but accessible for the beach, and great walks in both directions on the beach to Newton and up to Seahouses. We had the most minor glitch when we arrived in that the two truckles weren't made up as the booking had been miscounted. The owner was there within 10 minutes and added to an already very generous welcome package :) Back to my original comment, we couldn't fault a thing and hope we'll be able to stay again sometime in the future. Thank you for sharing your beautiful house.
Superb house, we totally loved our stay and so helpful with allowing us to locate a hot tub in grounds.
The welcome pack was a lovely touch. There wasn’t one thing that we didn’t enjoy and the house lived up to the expectations set or surpassed the expectations. Thank you and we would love to return again.
Stayed here for my 50th birthday with all my family.
Fantastic stay. Beautiful cottage very well thought out accommodation. Beadnell is just stunning and the beach is amazing. We will be back.
The Hemmel is a lovely cottage in an excellent location.
A short walk to the Saltwater cafe and Craster Arms. Both are dog friendly! Spacious accommodation with lovely views.
Beautiful cottage.
Excellent welcome pack. We had a call from the owner on the day we arrived to check if everything was ok. No complaints whatsoever.
A very well presented and maintained house which has all you need to enjoy a relaxing holiday in Northumberland.
The arrangements work perfectly and we enjoyed sitting out on the terrace in the morning and evening and it is a real sun trap. The personal touches were great and the owner popped in to make sure we had all we needed for our holiday. We would certainly look to go back to The Hemmel in the future.
Perfect location for families.
Property was in excellent condition and equipped to high standard.
Great holiday and a great place to stay.
Love the cow theme! Hope to come back again soon.
First visit and won’t be the last.
Fantastic cottage, lovely village.
We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful property.
Our group of family and friends included ages one up to seventy years. A huge kitchen table was brilliant for family meals. Comfy beds and lots of bathrooms added to the feeling of luxury. Beadnell beach was an added bonus.
We cannot fault the property.
The layout was ideal for my family, six adults and four children between 13 and 5, with the 'upside down' layout being unusual, but perfect for us. The location was also perfect for us with the lovely beach being close - as was the children's play park. An added bonus was the countryside around the property with horses and Alpacas next door.
We wanted a large house for seven family members with good amenities and in a good location.
The Hemmel was just perfect. Beautifully furnished and very spacious.
This house was unbelievable, I’d spent weeks looking for the right place for my 30th birthday.
Amazing location, every room decorated to perfection! It was warm and inviting and I will 100% be back!
