“Fabulous location a stone’s throw from the beach.”

Loved the estate and the different coloured houses, great to have access to tennis and the proximity of the beach meant we returned for the second time to The Beach Hut and would love to holiday there again. Very comfortable property and very clean (was wary about previous reviews, but we didn’t encounter any uncleanliness) Unsure about how easy to cook in the house, and didn’t see any bbq facilities, but we stayed for long weekend so ate out (The Old Ship, The Craser Arms, The Chip Van) and ...

Disappointing not to find a Welcome Pack, or at least milk in the fridge, but the description did not advertise one, just thought it was the norm nowadays. Definitely want to holiday at the Beach Hut again, love Beadnell and the surrounding areas!

“As previous reviews have said, cleanliness is a major issue and has still not been addressed.”

The rug in the lounge was absolutely filthy, covered in stains, dirty crockery and grease filled grill pan. The kitchen cupboards, table and coffee table were all tacky with grease. We had to clean it all before we could use it which is not ideal after a 6 hour journey. No bin liners in any of the bins, limited kitchenware so no tongs, spatula, mixing bowl etc and knives were so blunt they wouldnt cut anything. On the plus side the bathrooms and bedding were clean. We had serious issues with accessibility as my daughter has disabilities and the downstairs bedroom is too tight for someone who needs help walking. We chose the cottage specifically because of the downstairs room but strongly feel this should be noted on the website. The upstairs en suite sink sprung a leak and we had to isolate it. All issues reported to sykes day 1 on their WhatsApp chat but no one read them. I tried a few times to find another contact address (phone signal was not good there so difficult to hold a conversation). Eventually found an email address and was informed there must be technical issues with the whatsapp (although they could see my messages on there when i emailled so not sure what the issue was). Sykes offered to send a plumber round the next afternoon but this was the Wednesday evening and we were leaving the following day so no point. No offer to fix any of the other issues. Clearly no one is acting on these reviews which is a shame as it could be a lovely cottage if someone put some TLC in. For the money, a welcome pack would also have been appreciated. Absolutely nothing in the cottage as a treat or to make a cuppa on arrival.

How ever we where a little disappointed with a couple of things with the stay. Firstly the downstairs bedroom is very compact not enough for two people sharing. Also the kitchen equipment for cooking could really do getting renewed

“We can't give it the high rating on cleanliness I'm afraid that other guests have.”

The kitchen was grubby and needed an extra wipedown, particularly stains in the sink, we had to give it a good bleach, which is basic cleanliness. The trays in the oven are awful, one tray is that bad, it has foil on top of it, instead of purchasing new trays, which is what we did for the week. The dishwasher hadn't been emptied either. The ensuite in the master bedroom and upstairs bathroom shower heads were mouldy. The upstairs ensuite shower hose was also black in the creases and needed a good clean. We cleaned all of them as felt couldn't shower without doing so. We have stayed at a lot of holiday let's now and disappointedly it's the first one with no welcome pack or starter pack for the log burner. I also never understand why a dressing table and chair is put in a bedroom with no mirror?? The carpet in the ground floor bedroom hadn't been vacuumed. The TV in the master bedroom was not working, but managed to get it working, had to mess with it and found that the aerial wire wasn't connected. It had obviously been purchased but not connected. Cushion covers on dining chairs really dirty and stained. It just feels as if Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages want to rake the money in an not interested about attention to detail and giving those little extras for a special guest experience. It is a shame really because on a positive it is a lovely house, which is very spacious, close to the beach in a fabulous area. Putting the cleanliness and other issues aside, we had an amazing time exploring the area, with a visit to Bamburgh Castle which have just opened their Christmas display, a visit to Holy Island and a boat trip to the Farne Island's, weather permitting obviously. We had several walks along the beach as the tide was perfect the week we stayed.

Thank you for your feedback. I have spoken to the Sykes house keeping team about the issues that you have raised and we are looking into each area in detail. We were not aware of any issues with the oven or the showers, as the house was very recently inspected and these areas were not noted as having any issues. I am sorry that the dressing area in the Master bedroom was not completed, but this is a room that we are renovating and we did not take delivery of the new chair or mirror in time to finish this room on our last maintenance visit to the house. I am sorry that you found these problems with our house as we work very hard to provide a clean and well maintained house for all our guests. We will look into each item you have raised and ensure that everything is up to our very high standards. Property Owner

“Quality of accomodation generally very good.”

Corner of dining room rug curling up. Trip hazard, needs mended.Freezer had defrosted then been switched back on with alot of water under the bottom drawer, which had iced up. Bottom freezer drawer stuck and broken No response to phone call and email regarding above.

The rug has unfortunately suffered from the excessive traffic in that area and is going to be removed next week. “What a fantastic property felt at home as soon as we walked through the door.”

Not just clean but sparkling would have liked to have spent longer there. Everything you needed was supplied.the location was brilliant so close to the beach and restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and hope to return. It might be helpful just to put a note about the rubbish as we were unsure where to take this. We took our general waste away with us but had to leave the recycling as didn’t have another bag which I felt really bad about and apologise for this. Can’t recommend highly enough

“We love the Beach Hut and have visited several times, we particularly like the quietness, proximity to the beach and the spaciousness and comfort of the living area.”

Constructive feedback would be that the tv is not to the same standard as the rest of the property, we struggled with the operation and couldn’t get ITVX at all. I also would appreciate 100% cotton bed linen as I believe the linen provided was a mix and I found it a bit sweaty with no small windows to leave open overnight in the main bedroom. All in all though we love the house and hope to return

What a location! Being so close to the beach was absolutely brilliant. The house was light, airy, very clean and stylish. We particularly enjoyed the enclosed deck and the large communal garden for the kids. We would definitely recommend this property and use it again.

“Beautiful property in an excellent location!”

We found the property very comfortable with plenty of room for the four of us spanning 3 generations. The kitchen was excellently equipped, the lounge comfortable, the bathrooms sparklingly clean and we loved the decor. It was lovely having the fire when the weather was inclement but the house was always warm and cosy. We appreciated the nice touches - such as DVDs, games (the only thing we struggled with was to watch live tv and the screen was quite small for the size of the room). The house couldn’t be in a better location as it’s so close to the beach and we loved walking along the beach. We had a great meal at The Caster Arms. Would definitely love to return!

“The house and its location were superb and generally everything was clean and tidy.”

However, there were a few things that were not as good as I’d have expected for the price - for example: smoke alarm was beeping on arrival due to a flat battery; we only received 3 sets of towels, therefore 3 bath sheets between 5 guests (fortunately two of the kids could use the smaller towels); the blind was damaged and ceiling water-stained in the downstairs bedroom and toilet; one of the duvet covers were torn. Other than this, everything was clean and tidy, so nothing worthy of major complaint, but disappointing given the five star rating and the price.

“We really like the Beach Hut and have returned several times.”

We love the location, comfort, quiet and airiness. The shower update and recliners are a good addition but if we’d had the weather we’re having at home now a parasol would be nice (if there is one then sorry we didn’t look as it was a bit overcast). The only niggle we did have is that we prefer music to tv in the evening and we struggled to link Apple Music to anything and found it difficult to navigate our way around the tv menus. We’re not tech savvy and may have missed the obvious but a DAB radio would have made the holiday perfect. We are definitely planning to come back

We loved the decorative art work and the pretty lighting. The house itself is very comfortable with our only criticism being the size of the downstairs double bedroom which is quite small but manageable.

It is good having tennis courts close to hand. Good space for children to play in safety. The property is very nicely appointed with good quality furnishings. Particularly appreciated sufficient washing/cleaning equipment which is not always provided in rental properties. Would definitely recommend...and return!

About the location

BEADNELL

Seahouses 1.5 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

This attractive and peaceful harbour village is situated beside one of the most beautiful stretches of Northumberland’s Heritage Coastline - Beadnell Bay. Established in Saxon times, Beadnell was once an important fishing village and a smuggler's haven. Nowadays, it is still a fishing village, but is equally popular with holidaymakers who come to enjoy its pretty harbour and, of course, the nearby sandy beaches. The village has a shop, two pubs and a café serving food. Popular Seahouses is just over a mile away and has shops, a supermarket and restaurants, and it also offers boat trips from the harbour to the magnificent Farne Islands - a haven for bird watchers. Bamburgh is close by, whilst the market town of Alnwick with its Castle and Gardens, shops, pubs and restaurants is a short drive away.
