“Excellent first 3 night stay at Wren Cottage and will definitely return again in the near future.”

It was a perfect base for visting our family in Morpeth and also for visiting, on this occasion, Druridge Bay, Wallington NT and for shopping and eating out in Morpeth. “We would like to thank you for a wonderful stay .”

We didn't give 100% because for us ot was just a bit too small .we took a gamble at booking this cottage because it was the area we were wanting to stay, but my wife has disabilities and she found it too difficult for comfort and climbing the stairs, the only other thing was the size of the bed and it's position, we kept banging our feet on the leg when trying to get by.we had to push it over to the wall to get by.and the shower door doesn't go back so I had to assist her getting in and out the shower safely. None of these issues were your fault , the cottage was wonderful it was our fault for not booking a ground floor with a bit more space because of her disabilities.the cottage was clean and had everything thing in it you could need for a holiday break.thank you again.if you had a disability cottage we would not hesitate to return.

“Lovely little cottage.”

“Extremely cosy and comfortable cottage.”

A lovely welcome too upon arrival. All the basics needed were catered for. The water was lovely and hot. Shower etc. very comfortable bed, pillows etc. We visited many locations in our short 5 night stay. So a good base to explore from. The riding school and horses next door a bonus. Definitely recommend and hope to be back end of summer, early autumn if it's vacant.

We have checked the directions that we have provided to assist guests arrival. We seem to be unable to make the instructions any clearer or more specific. There have been and there are no current recent building or road changes that we are aware of, that would have impeded navigation to our postcode. “The cottage was very clean and nicely decorated and contained all we needed.”

There was a pleasant outdoor space. The location was peaceful and within reach of some interesting and attractive places. We were within easy reach of Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, and Tynemouth. The beaches in the area are impressive e.g. Creswell and Durridge and Woodhorn Museum is worth a visit. The cottage provided a comfortable base with convenient parking at the door.

“The cottage was compact as I expected.”

Perfectly clean and comfortable bed. What I'd like to emphasise is the misrepresentation of certain items in the property description on the site. Firstly it states that the small porch has a lovely comfortable chair. No it doesn't it contains a small, wooden folding chair. Secondly it states that the living room has a sofa and large TV. The TV is extremely small 22inches not large at all. Thirdly the description of the kitchen is that there is a wonderful set of contemporary fitted units and plenty of worktop space for preparing meals. In fact, the units are very basic and the available worktop space for food prep is small I'd say about 2ft in length the rest of the kitchenette area space taken up by the sink drainer and cooker top. All the points I've made can be validated by the photos on the site of the property. The problem to me was that the descriptions were inaccurate and untrue.

“Lovely little cottage with all facilities and perfect location.”

Bedroom a little cramped as having to bend down a little through bedroom due to beams. Lovely setting next to stables with bistro seating outside the porch at the front. Ideal location for exploring Northumberland coast and countryside as close to the A1. Cresswell beach and Druridge bay very close and outstandingly beautiful.

We were made very welcome on arrival and really appreciated being shown somewhere to exercise the dog on site. Wren Cottage is centrally situated for visiting many of Northumberland’s attractions. We had a wonderful short break there and would certainly like to return.

“Gorgeous cottage and grounds.”

Lovely grassed area for that little wander if you have a dog. Perfectly positioned for Newcastle , straight onto the A1. Hadrians wall an hour away, Scotland 2 hours ! The beaches are a must, of course, I would definitely recommend the Cresswell beach, visit the Drift cafe, their scones are a must. Castles and beautiful villages. Planing the next trip.

“Wren cottage is a lovely place in a barn conversion.”

The cottage comes equipped with everything you need. Sited on at a riding school, so if you just want to potter around as say hello to horses you can. Close to the A1 at Morpeth and about halfway between the major places you'd want to see in "Greater Northumberland" eg the Air museum, Vindolanda, and Berwick. With places like Wallington, Cragside, Warkworth, Bamburgh/Seahouses, and Alnwick even closer. Being a barn conversion the bedroom is an attic room, and the walls are a little thin. Earplugs and eye-mask would help, especially the latter during summer . I suspect anyone with mobility issues would find the stairs a struggle. I'd certainly stay again.

“A lovely couple of days at the cottage.”

Location wise, I think it's perfect being close enough to the A1 but without the noise. Used it as a jumping point to the likes of Bamburgh Castle and Holy island to the north, about 1 hour to the Kielder Waterside forest park to the west. Our cottage came equipped with all the kitchen utensils you need for cooking anything you want and 30 mins to the likes of Newcastle. Bed is comfy, and the ensuite is workable - the electric shower gets the job done, just dont expect large volumes of water lol. Front gardens are well kept and large for any of your dogs to run around, but there's no gates to the drive so be careful. One of the ladies that work there have some dogs that live with them, and although they're a little loud and come up to you 'barking', dont worry, they're just overly excited so dont be scared - just be mindful if you let yours off the lead. Do note that the walls between the cottages lack a certain degree of sound proofing, you can certainly hear each other in the bedrooms and in our particular cottage, its separated via a locked door (useful option for those with kids where they can have their own cottage to themselves) - our particular neighbour was keen cooking at late at night when they got back from where ever they were - and you can definitely hear the microwaves and pan clanging. Stand out was the recently upgraded internet, got 30mb downloads and uploads, so was able to have a TEAMS conference call and stream the championship final to the ipad with no issues - so for those who CANT escape from the net, this will certainly meet your needs. Still, a recommendation and top marks to Jane who was a lovely host.

“These clean well-decorated cottages are like staying in a goldfish bowl, there is a distinct lack of privacy as you are overlooked front and rear, strange set-up with in my opinion too many 'cottages' crammed into the barn conversion to the extent that there was next to no soundproofing between the adjoining properties, you can hear people talking through the walls, snoring, sneezing, closing cupboard doors, etc etc.”

I appreciate that this may not bother some people but for me it was wholly disappointing and unacceptable. I would not recommend it to anyone. I also did not like the fact that there are often dogs loose around the grounds to the cottages which would not be a problem if they ignored you rather than run at you barking furiously especially if you're walking your own dog. The cottages do not have a decent internet service, it was hit and miss at the best of times and you have to go to sit in a cold uncomfortable reception area if you want a decent signal, I met other similarly disgruntled residents in there. The owner and other staff are very friendly and helpful but the cottages are obviously secondary to the main horse riding /stables business which is fair enough but the set-up made for an unenjoyable experience which I would not care to repeat.

“I stayed at Wren for 4 weeks, and totally enjoyed my stay.”

The cottage was cosy and met my needs. The surroundings were absolutely beautiful and peaceful. I especially found the sounds of a working riding school very pleasing. The owners Jane and Paul were very attentive and helpful. For example, I had a small problem with the TV. It was immediately replaced. Similarly, a small problem with the toilet was immediately fixed by Paul. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and should I need to visit the Morpeth area would definitely book again.

The property

Wren Cottage is a terraced cottage located in Morpeth, Northumberland.

There is a small porch area to the front, with a lovely comfortable chair to sit and enjoy the expansive countryside views.

The open-plan living room is home to a variety of furniture, including a sofa and a large TV.

The dining room is perfect for getting together over a scrumptious meal and discussing the day's activities, with seating for up to two people.

The kitchen has a wonderful set of contemporary fitted units and plenty of worktop space for preparing your meals.

Upstairs has a small double bedroom with an en-suite shower room, and lovely exposed beams, giving the room that lovely country style feel.

The lovely market town of Morpeth is situated centrally in Northumberland and is an ideal base from which to reach the coast or countryside. Offering the remains of an historic castle, lovely parks, riverside walks, ancient architecture and churches and an old chantry with a bagpipe museum, Morpeth is also ideal for visiting surrounding attractions such as Druridge Bay to the east, with miles of golden sands, the vibrant city of Newcastle to the south, Alnwick to the north, with its castle and gardens and the National Trust's Wallington Hall to the west. There is also access to the Simonside and Cheviot Hills, with good walking amidst beautiful countryside.
