Cosy and comfortable stay at The Huffy House.

A lovely conversion of a quirky property which is part of the charm of the stay. Well equipped and stocked with everything. Fresh flowers to greet us on arrival. Bed very comfortable. Wonderful views to enjoy from both rooms. The property is behind a high hedge so private from the little hamlet of cottages. Look for the traditional garden gate with the name rather than expecting to see the house itself.

Huffy house was an amazing location and the Lady owner was very nice too, However the bed/matress was very uncomfortable and after 5 nights my back was killing me so we actually went home, I also think some new Kitchen utensils and pans would be a great idea and washing powder and pegs would help, Its just small details but would make a big difference.

Property itself fine and as description, BUT Facilities very poor.

a) 4 non-stick pans so badly damaged in multiple places, no-one should be using them. b) Not one small sharp knife to prepare veg c) No cafetiere for coffee All of the above we went out to buy, and then took them home with us. d) no icebox in fridge. And owner said her freezer was too full to freeze even a single ice pack on the last night !

We’ve just had our second stay at the Huffy House and loved every minute of it.

The view from the cottage is stunning and it is very centrally located to explore the sights of Northumberland. Alnmouth beach and the village itself is just minutes away and Alnwick just a short car ride away…the M and S food hall is dangerously close!! Ruby the Labrador enjoyed the glorious garden and we enjoyed the shade of the trees in the warm weather. On the negative side, the sofa is not at all comfortable and as there is a washing machine, you’d expect an iron and ironing board. Personally I also missed not having a vacuum cleaner to hoover up the sand and dog hairs. This doesn’t distract, and I can’t wait to book again. Ten out of ten!

Beautiful can’t wait to go back lovely views of the countryside and the wildlife.

Lovely garden our two Spaniels just loved it. Central location so close to the amenities and places of interest. On the downside maybe a small freezer would help especially with the dogs frozen raw food . You could sit in the kitchen and just look out of the windows it’s such a relaxing place loved it.

This is an extraordinary property which was ideal for my needs….

a terrific location with breath taking views and very central for visiting all of the places to see in Northumberland. Jilly is a wonderful host and always on hand if there is an issue. Parking is right next to the property, again, another plus. Highly recommended!!

Everything was perfect. It’s very well positioned for walking and exploring by car or train. The views from the kitchen table at breakfast are spectacular! We highly recommend and would come back again. Thank you.

Amazing little gem, exactly what we expected.

The views were fantastic and accommodation comfy and clean and it was very dog friendly which is what we were looking for. Hosts were really friendly and helpful and we have already booked to go back in February.

We were a little concerned when we read the last negative review, but when we arrived we were very pleased. The house was clean, cosy and full of character . The kitchen was well equipped, the bed very comfortable and it was so nice sitting in bed with a cup of tea taking in the amazing views in the mornings. We would love to return

pm and were warmly greeted by the owner, Jill. Everything we had read about the huffy was spot on!! Except the view?? It was even more breath taking than we imagined!!! We loved sitting in the lovely garden, watching the wild life. With being so close to the sea, we were able to go everyday. Would definitely recommend Rick and Genny Bertin

Quirky and rustic bolt hole.

Plenty of space for 2 and a dog, we were a bit sceptical about the bed and sitting area being one room, but it’s a big room and it works, also the kitchen is good for sitting in. Great garden, perfect for our dog, but if you have an escape artist there is loads of opportunity. The real positive for this property are the views and the myriad of wildlife at all times of days. Don’t forgot your binoculars.

The views, once we cleaned the windows, were amazing.

It's in a great spot for visiting places. However, cons outweigh the pros. It needs a deep clean. Floors were filthy, walls coated in dog hair, slugs appeared, huge amount of spiders daily, missing slats on the bed, very worn bedding, sofa small and uncomfortable, bathroom floor slimey, shower head leaked, toilet hadn't been cleaned. Pubes and pee stains, kitchen tap very loose, no iron. Grass needed cutting. The photos of the place need updating. We left 3 days early.

The cottage itself needs some updating, the sofa has long past its best, the leather on the sofa is splitting.

The fridge lacks a freezer box and we had to through food away that we took with us and therefore there was no facilities for making ice.

A lovely cottage in an amazing setting.

Let down by a few details and a bit of maintenance in places. No oven glove, no instructions/information on the cottage of any kind. Panel heater by the bed not working. Lack of hangers in the wardrobe, bottom of the wardrobe dirty. Personally nothing that would prevent us coming back to the property on another occasion, however others may not be as forgiving.

A lovely cottage with an amazing view.

The sofa was uncomfortable and it would have been nice to have a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival. We loved it and would choose this cottage again when we next visit this area.

The Huffy house was better than we hoped.

All the windows were to rolling countryside or the well kept garden. Although it is sited opposite the back of other houses, it was so quiet and good parking. With wood and stone floors throughout it suited our taste in a place to stay. The owner met us and made us feel welcome, and were told just ask if there was anything we needed. We could not wish for a better place to use as a hub for our holiday.

Third visit to Huffy House.

We love it . We like that nothing changes at each visit and we know exactly what we are going to. Peace , views ,etc. and this time fantastic weather.

Perfect location, stunning views, such a relaxing place, flowers a lovely touch very welcoming, already booked for next year.

Although the location and views from the cottage were great the approach to the cottage was very scruffy and uninviting.

The interior of the cottage was tired looking and needs some TLC. The sofa is past it's best, the bed linen was poor and needs replacing. The fitted sheet was threadbare with holes and the once white duvet cover is now grey, pillows also need upgrading. There was no broom for sweeping just a dustpan and brush. A few coat hooks in the kitchen would be useful for hanging coats.

Great find with stunning views and a delightful hideaway ideally located to explore the Northumbria coast.

The property is comfortable and deceptively spacious and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. We had sunny weather all week although the evenings were a bit chilly which is where the log burner came into its own to create a very cosy room. Alnwick is a short drive away for all shopping needs and If you want a rest from driving then Alnmouth station is a short walk putting Edinburgh , Newcastle and Durham within easy reach .

The Huffy House is delightful and in a perfect location for exploring the area.

It is comfortable, homely and slightly eccentric. It suited us perfectly and we will be looking to book again, bringing our dog as the property is truly dog friendly. One comment to share is that the white bed cover would probably suffer during bad weather as our dog is large and not readily respectful of furnishings. Many Thanks to the friendly owner.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Huffy House it’s a quaint little place and ideal for dogs and my elderly mum 83 as the property is all on one level.

The view is to die for and our dog loved it. A couple of points however we would have used the microwave but it was rusty inside but we managed with the oven. Also because of the really bad weather we could have done with coat pegs or coat stand to hang our wet clothes or if we had known we could have brought something with us. The log burner did make up for that and we had to have it on everyday because of the weather. None of the above did however put us off. We would visit the property again.

The Huffy House was lovely, dog friendly.

Fantastic views albeit we were not able to sit outside at this time of the year, too cold. The location was great. There were lots of coastal walks nearby. The railway station was a short walk and you could get to Newcastle / Edinburgh, even Penzance! The trains were also dog friendly. PS We managed to bring home 1 pillow case which we will post back once washed!

Such a beautiful building and gorgeous views. Had everything we needed and we felt really comfortable. Needs a little bit of maintenance ( loose kitchen tap) but otherwise wonderful. Would love to visit again.

Fantastic find!

What can I say. 10 out of 10. The huffy house has the most Fantastic views. We were lucky enough to see in the new year , log fire burning, cosied up. Loved reading about its history. There were helpful guides there telling you places to visit etc. It was immaculate! Fresh towels and a gorgeous shower - wet room The owner Jill had warmed it up for our arrival and a welcoming bottle of Prosecco. It's so private yet your literally 10 minutes from everywhere. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back.

Such a perfect holiday ànd we can't thank our hosts enough for helping us when we had an issue with our car.

The Huffy House is a wee gem.

Very cosy, quiet and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Handy for footpaths if you like walking/running, close to the station (but not so close to be noisy) and a 1.5 mile walk into Alnmouth. Good deli and village shop in Alnmouth and only a 10 minute drive (or 4 mile walk) into Alnwick.

Just lovely, enjoyed it very much.

Second visit and booked for May. If you are looking for an ikea type property this is not the holiday for you but if you want privacy, fantastic views,character and lots of charm then you will love it. Friendly helpful owners there if you need it. Had a great week. Thank you!

We were, to say the least, very disappointed with this property, indeed we decided not to stay and returned home.

It looked tired and in need of a complete make-over. Bearing in mind we have booked many Sykes properties before, and without exception they’ve all been good to excellent, this one was a huge let down. We have made our views clear to Sykes. We have always looked upon Sykes properties as being top quality because you always know their advertised holiday homes will be of a good standard. The Huffy House, as it presently stands is not, in our view, of the standard we’d expect and the photos of it on the website must surely be quite dated now. So very disappointing.

A lovely cosy rustic cottage, esp with the woodburner going.

The view is amazing! Access was ok for us but wouldn’t suit wheelchair users or anyone not keen on stone steps. Clean inside, with a wet room & hot shower. Kitchen has dishwasher & washing machine, fairly new. Also a microwave (less new). Picnic tables & bbq area (a bit neglected but quite sound). Pleasant garden but it has a drop into the next field, so elderly or excitable dogs need supervision. Rest of garden is enclosed & nicely managed. Good location for all the coastal attractions- we are considering returning next year

This was our third time at the Huffy House and we always stay in the autumn.

We instantly feel relaxed as soon as we arrive, the house is cosy and warm (we’ve only ever needed to use the wood burner once) and we love the space, inside and out. We don’t tend to cook evening meals when we are on holiday as we prefer to eat out or get a takeaway, but there is plenty of equipment in the house for making breakfast/lunch. Our dog sadly passed away in April, but he loved the garden whenever he came to the house and was always very relaxed. The house is well located & we enjoyed walking into Alnmouth or driving to the many sights in the area. Alnmouth train station is a short walk down the hill so we went to Edinburgh for the day which was about 1 hr 15 and a scenic journey. We loved watching trains pass over the viaduct, and occasionally the cows would come up to the house. The dark sky is amazing and we’ve seen a few shooting stars. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights from the garden this time which was an added bonus!

Our second stay at this beautiful cottage which is really a home from home in an outstanding location.

Full of quirky reclaimed features and antique furniture. Friendly owners who live opposite the cottage. Flagstone floors make it excellent for taking dogs with you. Cant wait to come back next year.

Huffy House is in a beautiful location and near to other places of interest.

The property itself is quirky and I can imagine when initially refurbished looked beautiful plus the material used were once of a high standard. However Huffy House is desperate for some TLC. The whole of the property requires a deep clean especially the bathroom where there is green mould on the tiles and shower cable. The bedding is shabby and well worn and new pillows and duvet are needed desperately. The cold tap handle in the kitchen came off in my hand on the first day plus no cooker hood light. There was no welcome note or manuals although the owner did come and introduce herself and was friendly, however we tried to leave note about the tap but could not gain access to the owners property to leave it and never seen them after the first day and the number we had was not recognised. The above concerns have been raised in the past but nothing seems to be getting addressed.

We had a great week at the Huffy House, it is in a very good position for exploring further afield too.

Upon arriving we immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. We found it very practical too with us having two dogs, especially with the flagstone flooring, where you are not constantly worrying about carpets, but very homely still. We really loved the layout. The cottage is rustic and full of character. A good sized garden, with truly fantastic views. We just had to be a little careful with our elderly dog as there are a couple of split levels in the garden and a few steps, but this was easily managed. We were a little surprised by some earlier reviews that were a little negative, which seemed a shame and could put people off, we just found it very cosy and comfortable, ideal for us and the dogs. We most definitely hope to return sometime in the future. It was a pleasure to meet the owners, Jill & Tom.

Lovely location and the restoration work is brilliant.

It was a fabulous base from which to explore Northumberland for the first time. We shall return!

We had a very enjoyable stay in Huffy House in 2023, super location And we had the same this year 2024 Nothing has changed - and that’s a problem, all the minor issues from last year have deteriorated.

Huffy House now needs a Facelift. The website images are 5 Years out of date. Leave a week free in November (preferably earlier). Swop over to new furnishings, a quick dash of paint, and simple wall pointing. Voila we would go back, but want to see improvements, or a reduced rate.

This cottage is going for gite shabby chic, unfortunately it is shabby and not chic.

The equipment was poor, miss matching crockery and glasses and limited. The view is wonderful and this quirky cottage could be as well with some TLC.

The Owner has clearly given up on this property.

The Photographs that appear on the website were taken many years ago. There is Dust / Grime throughout the property. I will be sending the Sykes Head of Customer Services photographs that we have taken to prove our claims. Sykes need to visit the property ASAP - and we recommend that any future booking are suspended until a full property inspection takes place.

Cannot fault the location and views however the property was not as expected or as the pictures suggested.

Garden was overgrown and untidy. BBQ area overgrown and unusable. Dangerous flagstones in areas also. Bathroom area could have been lovely but had green mould and daily wood lice creatures. Shower flex was mouldy and toilet seat broken. Kitchen well equipped but missing blinds on a window and some crockery badly chipped. Bed needs new pillows drastically and one toilet roll for a 6 day stay is quite limited. No welcome note or guide to the property was strange considering price charged and as regular renters we usually would find some basics provided - tea, coffee, sugar, oil etc. Could be a fabulous getaway but needs a lot of TLC and attention.

Quirky place, but loved it.

Views are stunning. Lovely wood burner for when the British weather lets you down! Very dog friendly. Could do with some new pillows! Easy access to railway station. Easy walk into Alnmouth village and the beach. Owners very kind and friendly.

First impression building, garden, views especially views lovely.

Garden overgrown bbq area not useable, grass was cut. Nowhere to relax outside, big drop into a field quite dangerous for pets and children,(not child friendly). Inside kitchen well equiped but cleanedliness not up to standard. Living/sleeping area not comfortable, sofa needs replacing, coffee table too big for area. The views were spectacular from the bed. The shower room/toilet was a good area but was having to get rid of woodlice all the time. Overall this place has potential to be a fantastic holiday home just needs a bit of TLC.

The property was lovely.

It’s quirky with lots of interesting features. It was so nice to lie in bed and look out at the amazing view! It is very well equipped lots of cooking equipment etc. The location is great too.

Quirky wonderful little bolt hole with the most amazing views, close enough to Alnmouth and so peaceful.

We booked a week's break at The Huffy House for January 20th 2024.

We noticed on weather reports that the week of January 13th was going to be really bad and as my husband is a builder and doesn't get paid if he doesn't work we looked at Sykes website and saw that The Huffy House was available on the 13th January so rang Sykes and asked if we could bring the holiday forward a week. I kept ringing Sykes to see if they had heard back from the owner but the answer was no every time so later in the day I rang Sykes again and said if we can't go on the 13th can we move our booking till later in the year. To cut a long story short, we received a message from Sykes the next morning to say that the owner of The Huffy House says we cannot move our week to the 13th January and we also couldn't move it forward to later in the year. Very disappointed with this response. We won't use Sykes again nor Northumbria Cottages which is a shame as it's a lovely cottage.

On a negative point, in the listing it states “fuel and power included in rent” also note “starter fuel provided” as shown in the photograph on Sykes the basket is full.

Upon arrival we questioned this and was told “all the wood was wet”. We would have thought at the very least they would have done what we had to do and pop into town to get a bag of logs. On a positive note, of which there were many, cosy, quiet and with ample white goods. The area has lots of places to visit including many castles, holy island and you must visit Craster for the locally caught kippers.

A lovely quirky place to stay.

Fabulous setting, great for accessing the Northumberland coastline and a short walk into Alnmouth. We were able to make use of the outdoor picnic bench to watch the trains passing over the viaduct, even though close to the station it is very quiet. Dark clear skies also allowed star gazing. Lovely views from longue/bedroom and kitchen, Property had everything you need, a small freezer would be a good addition as would a few extra glasses. Log burner used nightly made for a toasty warm evenings.

We had a wonderful time at the Huffy House.

It exceeded our expectations. The view is amazing and is a real treat to wake up to in the mornings. There is everything you need, it is very comfortable and we loved it. You don’t need to go up the few steep steps - there’s another way round (ideal for our elderly dog). It’s only minutes from Alnmouth and the beach, and is well placed to explore the beautiful Northumberland coast and neighbouring castles. Everyone we met was very friendly -and it’s a very dog friendly area too! A great place to stay.

The Huffy House was a fabulous base for us and our two whippets to stay to explore the beautiful Northumberland coast.

The views were stunning and the garden was a great addition.

We had a perfect week, quiet, with super views, Gill was on hand if we needed anything.

Although 380 miles for us, we hope to re-visit, it was worth the journey.

Absolutely superb place to stay with views that are second to none.

The cottage is superb with a lovely gard n. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely owners who welcomed us in and were there if we needed them. A great base for exploring the area. We would book this again with hesitation and will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Very quite, The that was just what we wanted. The only thing it was lacking, a handrail to help old people (us) get down the steps.! Another item which would be very handy would be a small freezer. Sykes on the other hand were extremely unhelpful, when we arrived at the property the oven wasn't working. The customer service received by Sykes was not good. We will not book through Sykes again and we won't recommend them either.

Outstanding views from the sitting room/bedroom, very comfortable bed with wildlife on the doorstep. We were met the next morning by the owner to check on us to see if we needed anything, very charming lady. Thank you for allowing us to stay we had a lovely time in our favourite part of the world

Had a lovely holiday at The Huffy House.

It was a great base for getting to other areas of Northumberland. Property has fabulous views and privacy. We stayed in February, so the weather was cold, but once shutters closed and fire and electric heating on, we were very cosy. Sofa was a chesterfield, so I was not very comfortable but was in keeping with the style of the cottage. We had our dog with us, and he loved it. Was a very stress free holiday, just what we needed. The owner's live opposite and gave us advice on walks in area as well as offering help with any problems but we didn't have any so no issues there. Thank you

It was pretty much perfect for us and what we were looking for.

Sitting in the stillness and quiet was sublime Loved the accommodation someone with a good eye and empathy for the building equipped it. Pls do not print this bit below My only comments were Being a short arse I couldn’t open the window in the wet room to let steam out from the shower The heated towel rail , couldn’t work out how it went on /off. My dog ran into the fields on day one. No animals were in the fields, although farm animals don’t interest her at all I was eventually able to retrieve her She’s young and just got over stimulated. If that was a potential problem maybe there needs to be more of a barrier ?

We had a lovely short break at The Huffy House, it was quiet, comfortable and ideal for a 14 year old Spaniel who still manages two good walks a day, but prefers his humans close by.

All on one level, and so close to good walks and the wonderful Alnmouth beach. The views over the fields are wonderful. Would definitely recommend! We had a small hiccup with our booking but Tom and Jill sorted it out whilst we diverted to Warkworth for our dinner. Somehow our booking details hadn't filtered through properly and they weren't expecting us. It wasn't a problem to us and we found an excellent pub, The Mason's Arms in Warkworth. Also very doggy friendly. Warkworth also has a super river walk for humans and doggies, plus the most marvellous tea room called Bertram's, they welcome dogs here too.

An unusual but attractive property with wide open views to the North.

Very comfortable with a large well appointed kitchen. Convenient for main line trains (station easy walking distance -10 mins). Well located for easy access to facilities in Alnwick and touring in the North East and the Border Country.

Amenities are very good and it is in a good central position for touring Northumberland as well as being only five minutes from the mainline station.

This is a stunning property - it is very quirky but has everything a holiday maker needs.

We arrived a little later than expected but the owner was still on hand to greet us, as she lives next door, The property was very well equipped and a great base to explore the area.

The owner was very happy to answer any questions we had at any point yet we were left to our own devices at all times. We were able to totally relax and left feeling completely reinvigorated.

The huffy house was perfect for our 2 dogs. A great location close enough to Alnmouth but far enough away to feel like you are totally secluded. The Huffy House is definitely on our list of places to return to.
