Bedwine Cottage

The property was fine for a short stay, with good walks and eating establishments nearby.

However, we found the living/dining area quite dark and the sofa and chair were very uncomfortable. There was a nice welcome pack and essentials pack. We noticed there was paint flaking in one corner from the bedroom ceiling and the owners might be advised to check there is not a blockage in the guttering which might cause damp penetration.

Overall, the cottage was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.

The kitchen is well stocked and all cutlery and utensils were very clean. The microwave works very well and we used this most of the time, as the oven instructions were very faded and barely readable. One issue that does need attention is the hot water. This was very hot and difficult to regulate, particularly for children and elderly people. There was no clear warning of this within the property. Based on the listing, our first impressions of the outside were disappointing. The photograph used for the cottage did not fully reflect the outdoor space. The outside area was dirty, and the table and chairs could not be used as they had not been cleaned and had green algae on them. The bins were also dirty and had an unpleasant smell.

Cheap and cheerful.

Clean where it matters, kitchen and bathroom. Had quite a bit of dust under the bed which I only noticed when I put my suitcase underneath. We've stayed there before a few years ago and the new owner has got rid of the old dark furniture so it's much nicer now. Good value for money if you're on a budget.

Not one for complaining as we have had many great holidays with Sykes.

Unfortunately this was not on of them. The patio was univiting with weeds all over the place and the slabs could do with a good wash. There were dog hairs on the sheets and blood on the duvet. The hot tap in the bathroom spun round when trying to turn the tap on. There was no pressure at all from the shower you could hardly get wet never mind washed And the dead spiders hanging from the wall light was a sign that not much dusting was going on. Flaky bedroom ceiling looks like damp patch

Had a lovely stay at Bedwine A few things that need to be looked at is the HOT water is far to hot accident wanting to happen

Overall the accommodation was good.

A few small points however. Black mould in a corner of the bedroom. A hole in the top of the recycling bin meant the bin had about a foot of water in it. It took a while to sort out the heating controls and my wife gave up on trying to sort out the cooker. The carpark space was narrow and the adjacent space often had it's car partially into ours which meant that we had to do the same (our apologies to the other affected space)

Lovely place very clean only thing I found missing was a some sciccors.

Second time staying at bedwine

Spotlessly clean.

Everything in the kitchen you could possibly need. The bed was really comfortable. The whole cottage was lovely & warm. The Conservatory is an added bonus. The only thing I could say negatively is the garden area could do with a bit of tidying up, the fence & furniture could do with a coat of paint.

Found the property clean and as expected from booking site on arrival we had a very peaceful relaxing time in the property very quiet and peaceful location, the weather was nice during are stay had to us towels to cover mouldy outside seating which could do with refurbishment or replacing other than that were quite happy with our stay ( the irritating bathroom door sticking on the floor when opened got to me after a few days so adjusted it for you ) we would be happy to recommend Beadnall as its the second time we have been same location but different property last time.

Nice space to explore Beadnell, could have been cleaner as there were black dog hairs and we do not have a black dog, couldn’t find a pair of scissors.

Other than that, a lovely space to explore the local area with lots of books and games for rainy days, thank you

Instructions for the oven would be useful.

The hot water is ridiculously hot, and needs turning down The wall lights are erratic, but that wasn't,t really a problem We enjoyed our stay there, beadnell is a lovely little village, recommend the fish and chips place near the shop, - and a walk up to the harbour reveals a beautiful sandy bay for bathing etc.

Disappointing.

There are many issues with this so called holiday home and here are a few: there is a real need for a makeover as it seemed to be stuck in last century, the photos and description were misleading as there is no privacy or view which in a holiday rental you’d hope for in the UK, “bijou” is a term to describe small and cramped, the fan in the recent heat waves was useless ( wouldn’t work on high at all), wardrobe not tall enough for all but children’s clothes, TV not smart and as usual in a rental, kitchen had blunt knives and chipped crockery. On the plus side, it was quiet at night, a good selection of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett books and the shower, although compact, worked. For the price a poor buy. Our previous week’s rental was much better for less money. It came over as a place a seasonal worker would use and certainly not a full fare holidaymaker. We would not recommend this.

There were several disappointments with what could have been a nice cottage in a beautiful area.

Lack of outside windows No privacy when sat in conservatory due to small path running across back of garden and no blinds, so room too hot at times Kitchen needed updating - old crockery, some chipped Garden furniture poor and not fit for purpose

Cosy well equipped cottage in a central spot for exploring the area.

Disappointed at garden patio area, overgrown with weeds, fence needs replacing, no privacy!

Mop filthy, conservatory extremely hot, needs blinds. Fan in bedroom broken and bed too small. No ventilation, house extremely warm needed fresh air. Couch uncomfortable, cushions slipping away when sitting down. Dangerously hot water.

The outside space definitely could do with a clean up not pleasant for sitting in with all the weeds, not as accurate a picture as on webste and the conservatory area could do with some repairs which have been in the same condition for a couple of years

Small property very overlooked thus little privacy.

Lack of outside windows, ie bedroom window opens into conservatory, thus gets warm and doesn’t allow good air circulation.

The property was let down by the first impression, the patio and garden furniture need a great deal of attention.

Apart from that the decor of the cottage was more than adequate. M.McFarlane.

The door jams on the tiled floor as it is opened and the door catch sticks and It is only a matter of time before someone gets locked in.

Upon entering the property , the air was filled with a wonderful clean fragrance .

And the property looked clean and tidy . The bed was comfortable , shower, and lounge was prefect . kitchen was adequately furnished and functional utensils . The Conservatory was a wonderful addition to this property. Over the time of our stay we encountered a problem with the placement of the washing machine ( Partially Under a counter , and controls were difficult to use , and dark as it was partially under the counter ). The garden / patio was also a good useable space , however it was tired and needed a bit of love . Also on further inspection we discovered cobwebs under the bed , and dust and debris under the sofas . Overall , I would definitely return to this property .

No oven for 4 days.

This fault was known prior to our stay commencing yet we were not informed. Shopping purchased for self catering wasted and had to eat out more often than planned. On the plus side I learnt how to be a master safe breaker. Such skills are required to gain access to the property due to the lock barrel being very loose and only functioning in a very precise position. Not great when needing the loo. Being a fan of Marvel I was rather chuffed about the homage paid to Spiderman in the corners of each room. That is why the cobwebs were there isn't it? Second visit to Bedwine... won't be returning and Sykes have severely muckied their ticket to. Used to be go to first choice.... We'll search for alternatives wherever possible now

co.uk, but have never received any return correspondence to this day. I'd just like to let you know about our stay at bedwine cottage & the concerns we found. Firstly upon arrival, we noticed the conservatory windows were quite dirty inside & out, then to be greeted by a mop, bucket & brush to the right of the door is really not a good look, and also behind the radiator in the conservatory was really dirty & looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while, which was not a good start considering we'd just arrived. Once we were inside, we thought the cleaners had decorated for Halloween, as the amount of cobwebs were disgusting, (please forgive my sarcasm), these were on living room ceiling, above the map & about 6ft long (please see the attached video's & photo's). Also quite large cobwebs either side of the extractor in the kitchen. Crumbs were left on the kitchen bench, plates, glasses & bowls had not been cleaned thoroughly. (Please see photo's). We only cleaned what we used for the week, so the rest will need a thorough clean. The kitchen utensils also seemed liked they hadn't been cleaned as glass cooking bowls had a film of grease on them & the spatula had baked on burnt food which also required a thorough clean before use. The bathroom was nicely decorated, but the floor left a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness, (Once again see photo after a small portion was cleaned). The hot water tap in the bathroom is loose & moves from side to side, (not a big issue, but needs sorting out). The lounge tv cabinet had not been dusted properly, as there was a lot of dust around the shelves under the TV. When closing the door blind on an evening, we found a slat missing from the middle (see photo). Half way through the week we decided to use the washer to clean the dogs towels, and upon opening the washer door dirty water spilled out onto the kitchen floor, leaving a nasty smell of dirty standing water, which again needed a thorough clean. The bedroom was lovely, but the mattress protector was stained & yellow, this really needs replacing. We have been using SYKES cottages for 7 years now and have never had to send any correspondence concerning the cleanliness of any properties we have stayed at, so this is a first on our behalf. Please don't think we didn't enjoy our week away, we did, it's just the overall standard of cleanliness left a bit of a sour taste. I hope you can speak to the cleaning staff & rectify this, as all it needs it a little more attention to detail. Sofa could have more support (board) to prevent cushions sagging into sofa-bed area.

Temperature on hot water immersion set too high, water heats boiling point in approx. 10-15 seconds.

Lovely well equipped bungalow in a good location with easy access to all Beadnell has to offer.

Ideal for two and a dog. Little garden and conservatory are lovely places to sit in the sun. Shower a little small. Hubby is 6’2” and couldn’t bend to pick up shower gel.

The cottage works as somewhere to sleep, shower and cook basic meals.

There is off road parking 60m away and the location in Beadnell is good. It is well equipped.On the other hand it is dark and lacking any sense of space/view. We were lucky with the moderate weather. If it had been hot the cottage would be very uncomfortable as the only way to get air in the buliding is to open the kitchen window or conservatory door,both adjacent to a path used regularly by pedestrians and dog walkers. If you want a simple base from which you want to explore the area it is fine.

We really enjoyed our stay.

The area was lovely and quiet and the cottage suited us as a couple with a dog. The cottage was well stocked with equipment for cooking and washing and it was lovely to have the conservatory to sit in as the weather was mixed and unpredictable. It would have been helpful to have had info about the Wi-Fi included in the cottage information book. We only found the card with the password when we happened to move a chair in the conservatory. There was an instruction in the book when to put the bin out but no indication of where it went. (The cottage is situated off the road) I had to ask one of the neighbours. All in all we liked the cottage and would have no hesitation in recommending a stay there to other people.

Dangerously scalding hot water with no warnings!

Very well presented cottage just right for 2 people plus 1 dog. Bed linen and towels supplied. Well kitted out kitchen , utensils and crockery could have been a bit cleaner. Comfortable bed. Hard flooring easy to clean (a dust pan and brush would help). Excellent for walking to the beach and pub. Local shop nearby for essentials. A great little cottage. Would stay again.

Hi we thought the cottage was smaller than the photos we looked at and the hot water was scalding we won't go there again but loved the area and Beadnall

Tv needs adjusting you have to press av button then put it on to tv hen it plays bbc 1 Rubbish hadn’t been taken out for some time Crockery needed washing again Waste under sink leaking two dog bowls underneath catching some of the water, it stank and we called your office and a man came and fixed it We left the cottage much cleaner than we found it

Pleasantly surprised after recent refurb prior visits to this property were disappointing

Adequate accommodation.

Living room very dark. The only natural light comes through glass door, and from open kitchen. Washing machine not working. Northumbria Coast and Cottages sent maintenance person round promptly, but they couldn't fix it. NCC also brought round wine glasses, fixed DVD player, and provided new (clean) toilet brush.

We had stayed across the way a number of times (10+) but the property was sold.

Fran (a local) who knew the owner recommended this property and we loved it. Have stayed since and probably again at some point. Perfect for us with the fenced off garden.

Very convenient for the village and beach.

The property is in a lovely quiet development, with adequate space for 2 people.

Furniture and kitchen of a good standard. Dog friendly - we had one dog - and absence of carpet and rugs made it easy to keep clean.

The property was clean and well presented and comfortable .

The kitchen had most utensils we needed and the cooker and hob were easy to use and the shower room was very nice
