“Otoline cottage was very clean and comfortable.”

The main bedroom and living space was very spacious. The other two bedrooms were also comfortable. The cottage had everything I needed. The location is perfect for exploring Northumberland and it’s only a short walk along the golf course to the clubhouse and then on up to the village. The beautiful beach is only a five minute walk down to. The views are spectacular.

“We had a lovely week at Ottoline Cottage.”

The cottage is a perfect size for our family of four, and the layout is excellent, especially with the second bathroom and utility room downstairs. Everything we needed had been provided. The location is super quiet and just a few minutes walk from a gorgeous beach. There was a lot of wildlife to spot - bats, swallows, birds of prey, and a hare right outside the kitchen window one day! The only complaint we have is that the master bed is very creaky and the mattress uncomfortably hard. This affected both of our sleep throughout the week. If we stayed again and it hadn't been replaced, we would bring an airbed. However, the rest of the cottage and the location are so perfect that this would not put us off.

The accommodation was very comfortable and well equipped, with all the modern conveniences needed for a relaxing holiday. The location is superb, offering easy access to a wide range of places to visit and enjoy, both locally and a little further afield. Overall, we had a delightful stay and were fortunate to enjoy lovely weather for the time of year, which added to the experience.

“This was our second stay at Otterline cottage.”

Fabulous location within spitting distance of the beach at Embleton, and the wonderful links course of Dunstanburgh Castle. Accommodation very comfortable, our only gripe being the spring loaded latch doors. Despite the door restraints it was difficult to stop some of the doors slamming shut, which was annoying, especially at night.

“An absolutely perfect location.”

A comfortable cottage and had everything you needed (except a coffee machine although lots of cafetiere in varying sizes) with a lovely welcome package of milk, biscuits. Loved our stay. Embelton bay, with Dunstanburgh castle overlooking it, being such a short walk away made this a heavenly holiday for us and the dogs.

“Second time we’ve stayed and love the location and cottage.”

This time we spent more time around the cottage and garden - enjoying the space and relaxing, thank you! Nitpicking here… knives were bit mixed, no bread knife. Fish slice that’s not metal (to avoid scratching non-stick pan). Soft brush for wooden floors - for a quick sweep around! But we managed, non of these detracted from our stay and the lovely, well equipped cottage.

“The place was lovely but i am 72 yrs old and found the flimsy rugs, especially in the kitchen a bit of a safety issue, i cant count the number of times i tripped over it, a flat plastic rug perhaps would be better, or perhaps none at all.”

“The house is lovely and in a fantastic location.”

We were really impressed by how well equipped the cottage is, down to the little step stool to allow the best views to be seen from the bedroom skylight. It was all very comfortable and nicely furnished. Delighted to find we had sufficient dishwasher tablets, loo rolls etc, which isn’t always the case. The only slight drawbacks were the proximity of the sofa to the fire (not sure why the room is arranged this way) and the slow draining of the shower. But these did not take the shine off what was a wonderful stay.

“Peaceful location, easy access to beach, walks in every direction.”

Loads to do in the area whether you use a car or not. Already planning return. House was well equipped and maintained, at least for our needs. A better blind on west facing window in main bedroom would turn a 9.9 to a 10.

A well presented and brilliantly located cottage just a few minutes walk from a stunning and quiet beach. Perfect for walks with our dog and to top it off, the weather was great. The stay could have been made even better if there had been an outside tap for cleaning off the dog after our walks; the maintenance people who cut the grass could have removed the grass cuttings so the dog (and us) didn’t walk grass cuttings into the house & if the mattress in the main bedroom had been just a little softer and the bed not so creaky!!

“This was out third visit to the cottage so we know it well and it was clean and comfortable as expected.”

The issue that concerned us this year was the oil boiler which seemed to give off more fumes than previous years. Yes the weather was cold so the boiler was on quite a bit but having had experience with oil boilers it just seemed to give off more fumes than one might expect. Obviously you could smell it in the garden but also sometimes in the cottage.

“Beautiful and perfect location for our holiday we were after somewhere easy reach of the beach with a fabulous view of the coast and Ottoline definitely delivered.”

Facilities in the cottage were great which we made good use of during our stay cooking meals with a view of the sea. Bed linen and towels of good quality and all clean. A five star place for us and we'll be back again.

Only a couple of niggles, for some reason there was no hot water the morning we vacated, the freezer needed defrosting , it was so iced up the door would not close. Had to borrow a corkscrew from next door (important utensil especially when on holiday

“Another wonderful weeks holiday in Ottoline Cottage.”

Perfect peaceful location and great for walks on the beach with our dog. Our only recommendation is to install an outdoor tap in the back garden to rinse sandy feet and paws before coming indoors. I spent ages clearing sand and hoovering during our stay.

“Fantastic holiday in thoughtfully presented cottage in fabulous location, ideally located down the road and through the dunes to beach and on circular walk/cycle path route.”

Investigation needed on the oil flue as fumes reentered the property through the shower room & bath room windows together with the back door when left open. Should we have had hot weather it would have been unbearable to have had these closed, whereas with the inclement weather we were only mildly inconvenienced.

“We really loved our stay.”

The cottage had everything we needed, and the views from all of the rooms were incredible. So calming to see and hear the sea! The beds were super comfy, and the blackout blinds were much appreciated when trying to get littlies to sleep. It was in a perfect spot with a 2 minute walk to a deserted beach, and a short drive to lots of other cool places. We will definitely be back! Our only issue was the pet hair. We know the cottage is pet friendly, but when playing on the floor with the little ones, we ended up with lots of pet hair on our clothes and their toys - I think perhaps it is hard to clean out of the rugs that are down? There was also hair on the furniture. It wouldn't stop us booking again, we really loved our stay, but I do think that something needs to be done about making sure the pet hair is properly cleaned. Perhaps changing the rugs and throws to ones that can be cleaned more easily?

“Brilliant cottage, we love Embleton bay so the location is perfect for us.”

Early morning dog walks with the sun rising behind Dunstanburgh castle were divine. The quality of everything in the cottage was extremely high which we appreciated. The bed was supremely comfy (we only used the master), the shower was hot and powerful, the towels were large and fluffy, the wood burning stove was large enough to heat up the room quickly. We didn’t cook much, as there are so many lovely places to eat nearby, but the kitchen was extremely well equipped and had everything you needed.. We loved Ottoline cottage and we will definitely book again, thank you.

Ottoline Cottage is a lovely stone built barn conversion in an outstanding location on the Heritage Coastline with beautiful panoramic sea views.

The cottage is furnished and equipped to a high standard with contemporary furnishings in an uncluttered and fresh style and has wooden flooring throughout.

There are fabulous walks on the doorstep along the sandy beach just south of Embleton extending north and south. GROUND FLOOR Kitchen/breakfast room with sea views, ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Utility room with washer/dryer and freezer. Shower room with shower, WC and basin. Living/dining room with sea views, log burning stove, TV/DVD and CD/radio. FIRST FLOOR Bedroom 1 with super-king-size bed and sea views. Bedroom 2 with double bed (smaller room) and sea views.

EMBLETON

Craster 3 miles; Beadnell 4 miles; Alnwick 7 miles.

The pretty village of Embleton is ideally placed for exploring one of the most attractive stretches of Northumberland's Heritage Coastline. A beautiful grassy path runs from the village to neighbouring Craster, alongside the sea and past Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland. Embleton itself has a village pub and a local hotel, and there is an excellent range of amenities in nearby Alnwick. The gardens at nearby Howick Hall are open during the summer and are noted for their beauty, whilst Alnwick Castle and Garden are a 'must-see' when visiting the area. For the keen golfer, Dunstanburgh Links Course is about 1 mile away - just one of several excellent courses in the vicinity.
