The Bothy, Riding Hills

A lovely property, attractively designed and very comfortable.

Perfect for two people. The location is great for the Hexham - Newcastle area.

We enjoyed our week at the Bothy very much.

This lovely little holiday home had everything we needed. Watching the bats in the evening was a treat.

It is a lovely little gem with all the amenities you would want.

Shopping is a breeze since Corbridge, Hexam and Riding Mills are close by. Enough water around for the dog to play in. We absolutely loved this little bungalow so much so that we said to each other, we could live in something like this. Would love to come back in future

Big enough for 2 people.

King size bed, lovely ensuite with walk in shower, heated towel rail, large ceramic basin with plenty of room on the unit top to place toiletries. Two small windows in bedroom that don't open which I hated because I like fresh air coming in & it was too hot to sleep. Large TV & good sized sofa. Pity there were several dead flys & a large moth behind it that we had to sweep up! Disgusting! Plastic plants need washing they're dusty. Outside decking with fence around had a lovely view of the garden but the fence had cobwebs over it & there was a lot of new & brown (old) rose petals on the floor which should have been swept up before our arrival.

Quiet location and a good place for visiting the many attractions on offer.

The property was well thought out and of nice design, well equipped for two people and quite comfortable. The lighting in the bathroom was a bit too dim for shaving or for doing make up. The balcony is a nice place to sit outside but a bit overground with surrounding shrubs.

Excellent, comfortable and cosy cottage.

Well equipped and nicely designed and finished. Perfect location for visiting Roman Britain sites and the pleasant towns of Corbridge and Hexham. Trimming the shrubs near the balcony would make the lovely view more visible.

At first glance, a stylish and visually appealing cottage in a lovely peaceful location.

However, a number of housekeeping and maintenance issues rather took the shine off the experience, particularly in the kitchen and outdoor areas, where cleaning and upkeep in key areas often felt inconsistent. The cottage has clearly been designed with a great deal of thought and attention to detail. At times, however, we felt that the same approach had not quite carried through to housekeeping and upkeep. Overall, the experience felt somewhat less premium than the presentation and pricing suggested.

The Bothy, Riding Hills was everything as described.

It was in a beautiful location with easy access to Corbridge and Hexam by road or bus. A great location for exploring the Roman Heritage sites and beyond. The Bothy was well equiped, clean and comfortable and thanks to Karen and Simon for the welcome milk, butter, jam and bottle of wine. I would highly recommend staying there.

A very comfortable stay.

Property was lovely and warm. We also enjoyed saying hello to the chicken and passing cats. Thank you also for the butter, biscuits and portion of coffee in the Costa bag. I would recommend the accommodation but be aware that parking at the door is on a slope which may be an issue for those with mobility issues. There is also a tight narrow turn off the road onto the drive. This was no issue for us but could be a problem if you have a wide car. There are just a few things which could have improved our stay : the bushes and trees outside need trimming and the grass needs cutting and weeding, the frying pan has lost its non-stickness and there is no teapot, the main window in the living room also needs cleaning especially at the top (however, I realise that this could have been left as there were birds nesting in the eaves when we visited). Some of the books on the book shelf are placed very high and out of reach for someone of standard height. We very much enjoyed our visit and do hope to return in the future.

Well appointed and well maintained.

Very clean with everything you need. Little welcome gift from the owners was a nice touch. Bed was one of the comfiest of all the places we have stayed in chairs not so much. Would stay again if in this area.

Total "Bothy" Bliss at Riding Hill!

: We had a wonderful stay at this cute little conversion; it is an absolute gem! The space is incredibly well-designed and has clearly been thought out with guests in mind. Even though it's a cozy "Bothy," it had everything we needed for a seamless self-catering experience. The host was so accommodating and included some lovely extra touches that made us feel right at home—we arrived to find croissants, wine, coffee, milk, and even a dog bowl and treats waiting for our pooch! Speaking of the dog, the setup is incredibly paws-friendly. There was plenty of space for the dog to roam safely, and the lovely walks right outside the door made mornings a breeze. The location in Riding Hill is also perfect for exploring. The nearby towns of Hexham and Corbridge are lovely to visit with great places to eat. We particularly recommend Grant’s in Corbridge if you’re looking for a delicious sweet treat! It’s a peaceful, well-maintained retreat that we’d recommend to anyone looking for a quiet break. We’ll definitely be back!

! We had everything we needed to have a lovely break and will certainly look to booking this Bothy again.

We had a great time at the Bothy, the property was comfortable and well presented.

Firstly - and this is not a criticism of the property - I was very disappointed to find that Northumbria Cottages is part of the Sykes group.

If I had known this beforehand, I would not have made the booking. I will be happy in future to book this property again but I will only do so if I can book directly with the owner and not via Sykes. Regarding the property - three minor niggles: bed mattress a bit "tired". lounge chairs too low for people like myself - 6'3" and an ageing back - difficult to get out of. most importantly of all - no teapot!!!!! Also, regarding the log burner (no user guide to illustrate the primary/secondary air controls) - we couldn't access the log store - combination padlock and no code. This wasn't a big deal as the property was adequately warm. We used the log burner the first night with the supplied logs but were unimpressed by it's performance. (This is by comparison to our log burner at home.) Otherwise a very pleasant property, just right for a couple for the week and conveniently located for where we wanted to visit - Hadrian's Wall, Metro Centre, Newcastle city centre and a couple of National Trust properties.

Second visit, stayed for 4 nights this time.

Our dog doesn't like fireworks so we wanted to get away to somewhere remote for a few nights around 5th November. The Bothy is a very comfortable, cosy and well equipped property. There is another property next to it, both with same owners. Very chilled and relaxing stay in a beautiful rural location, would definitely recommend if you're looking to get away from it all for a few days.

Lovely property in each reach of Corbridge and Hexham with some lovely walks from the doorstep.

Bed was comfortable and the whole place was clean and well stocked with nice decorative touches, great shower and log burner adding a cosy feel in the evenings. Would definitely consider again for a break.

Just had the best time at the Bothy Riding Mill.

It is on a hill in beautiful valley. It is sylish and very comfortable with everything you need to eat in if you chose. Beautiful bathroom and a very comfy bed. The owners were very friendly and helpful if you needed them.. would go back in a heartbeat . Jackie & Roy . Wirral.

Everything we needed for a lovely stay.

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at the Bothy.

The property is beautifully and tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Everything has been thought even bowls and treats for our dog. Set in a beautiful location, the property is ideal for exploring the local area with Corbridge, Hexham and Hadrian’s Wall close by. A big thank you to the hosts and we will definitely return. A very highly recommended property.

Gorgeous location, peaceful wonderful views.

Great location for exploring hadrians Wall, fielder water with Corbridge on tour doorstep. Cottage had all rhe amenities for cooking an evening meal and plenty of room for two, well maintained and clean.

The property was beautifully presented and very comfortable.

The location was perfect as it was close to amenities, but also secluded enough that it was very peaceful. Thank you Karen and Simon, we will be back.

Great location, many places of interest within a thirty minute drive.

Plenty of restaurants not too far away Lovely decor and immaculate. Everything you could possibly need was provided, excellent use of space. View would be improved if hedges were trimmed. Would consider visiting again.

The Bothy is an amazing place away from the rat race, surrounded by countryside and calmness.

Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated with high-quality fixtures and fittings. Hosts are very non intrusive but there if you need them.

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage.

It is in an excellent location for visiting all kinds of places, from Newcastle to Hadrian's Wall to Beamish. The cottage is very well equipped and was extremely clean. We also really enjoyed the view of the garden. One small niggle; if you like having a bedroom window open while you sleep, the bedroom unfortunately does not have an opening window. Also a note to the owners; we would recommend moving the sofa so that it faces the TV, this also means you could see the view out the window rather than having your back to it.

Beautiful spot: clean, well maintained, and carefully decorated.

Views from the large window are lovely, and we rearranged the furniture quite substantially to maximise this. Unfortunately we didn't see a single star, because England. Owners seemed very helpful, although we didn't have any problems. Bed is incredibly comfortable, shower is nice, and the dining table opens out easily to twice the size (which is useful, as there is no non-kitchen storage in the living space). Worth flagging that the terrace faces north, so rarely has sun. Also, the en-suite is not a separate room to the bedroom (you can see from the photos, but it's not explicitly stated), which reduces the privacy of the bathroom and can be a problem if you're not both up at the same time. We had a lovely time at the Bothy, but were glad to get back to a house with an actual separate bathroom. A few comments for the owners: the soap dispenser in the bathroom was leaking from the pump, which no doubt will make more work for your cleaners. The bathroom sink tap cover came off randomly on our first day - didn't move again once I fit it back on, but might be worth checking (perhaps it was loosened when cleaning?). It would be very helpful to include some kind of storage in the shower, either affixed to the wall or a stool or table, particularly for people with limited mobility.

Lovely place to stay delightful setting and generously provided for.

Well-equipped, clean and comfortable, The Bothy made a delightful base for a long weekend, for ourselves and small dog.

The tasteful decor reflects the degree of care and thought put into the visitor's experience. We also particularly enjoyed the quietness of the site and privacy of the verandah. Would certainly recommend.

A fantastic place with everything clean and comfortable.

The views are fabulous and the wildlife garden superb. Friendly and helpful owners who respect one’s privacy. I had one query over the key box which was quickly and kindly resolved. Only tiny bit of feedback from me is that a shower mat would’ve been appreciated as the shower floor is very slippery (obviously ☺️) and as the controls are outside I nearly slipped over when stepping out to alter the temperature! The Bothy is a gem and I have sent pictures and recommendations to friends.

Although only a 1-bed property, The Bothy has everything you need! It’s been very carefully thought out and was beautifully presented, with high quality decor. We will miss the gorgeous sunrises and the lovely ducks! 100% recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bothy.

The accommodation was beautifully furnished, very comfortable, clean and in the most beautiful of settings with lots of wildlife close by. The hosts left a lovely 'welcome pack' and had really thought about everything their guests would need during their stay. The scenery around the Bothy is breathtaking and offers some great local walks. Lots to do and see close by, Corbridge, Hadrian's wall, Hexham Abbey. This all results in a perfect little holiday.

Absolutely perfect, some nice little touches by the owners which I won’t mention as don’t want to spoil for future guests.

My only slight criticism would be, it would be lovely to have a jacuzzi on the decking to take I the views and night sky. But can’t have everything can you, I will definitely come back.

A beautiful property in a beautiful location.

Has everything you need under 1 roof, the owners have thought of everything. Beautifully presented, decorated and cosy. Nice welcome pack which included wine and items from a bakery one being gluten free which was ideal for my husband. The log fire was very comforting of an evening when you had been out exploring all day in the cold. Ideally located as you could drive up to Northumberland national park , down to the North pennines or East to Newcastle. We will surely return in the future x

Magical place to stay.

Woke up on Saturday, to heavy snow, creating a mythical aura to the whole landscape. Fittings inside 10/10. Lights could be brighter, I couldn't read as quickly as I wanted, the fantastic selection of books left to enjoy. [ Staneley Pucci was my choice] I wanted to bring the bed back home. The perfect 7 days...

The property is beautifully designed, modern but classic, it has all the things you need to cook and have a nice meal, the view out onto the garden is lovely and calming.

The property was extremely clean. I stayed alone with my dog and felt completely safe the entire time. It’s in the perfect spot to visit the surrounding areas. I’d love to come back in the summer months and make use of the decking. The welcoming gift touches were also appreciated.

What a gem of a little hideaway yet so close to walks & everything else you might need.

cosy , comfortable ,clean and well appointed & so quiet. the views are beautiful ,even though the weather wasn't great it was perfect to just relax. we've already booked again for next year for a longer stay . Perfect couples getaway & the greyhound would like to add super good for snoozing

Had a very relaxing and peaceful stay at the Bothy.

The property is very well equipped and comfortable for 2 people with a dog. The owners live in the adjacent Riding Hills farm so are on hand should you need them. The welcome pack was very good, one of the best we've had. Plenty of walks from the doorstep and the village of Riding Mill, which has a good pub and cafe/deli is about a 40 minute walk. Corbridge is a similar distance in the other direction. There is also a regular bus service from the main road (about 5 minutes walk) between Newcastle and Hexham. We really enjoyed it and will definitely book again for next year

Lovely, well presented cottage.

Fabulous welcome pack. All furnishings were comfortable and good quality. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Bothy, one recommendation/feedback, the outside space could do with some maintenance and the amazing views are being blocked by some overgrown shrubs and trees, this did not impact our holiday at all. The neighbouring ducks, cat and hen were all very friendly

Loved the bothy.

Clean comfortable and quiet. Loved the location with so much walking and history covering Northumberland. Highly recommend for a couple wanting a base to explore the locality. Loved it.

yet nowhere to take off wet gear or to dry dog. just put a porch on. storage for food and clothes were rubbish as well. should have been advertised as converted garage not bothy. also no windows to open, especially in bedroom

This is an amazing cottage in a lovely location.

The Bothy has everything you could need and with Hexham and Corbridge just a few minutes away there is plenty to do.

We had a fabulous break, loads of lovely pubs for eating at.

The friendly ducks came to the front door and shouted for breakfast (Weetabix). We did a Roman trail, joined English Heritage then did more Roman fort visits. The Bothy was very comfortable, beautifully furnished and decorated. The welcome box was lovely, the owners, Simon & Karen were helpful but not intrusive. It’s the only cottage we’ve stayed at for 2 weeks where the bedding and towels were changed half way through! A dlelightful place. Cats, ducks, hares, an owl and bats, what more could you ask for, I’m sure we’ll be back. Thanks, Denise, John & Poppy the cat! x

Unfortunately we had to leave The Bothy last Saturday, 8th June because my friend was ill and he required medical attention, which as you are no doubt aware is difficult to get these days.

We were very impressed with The Bothy and the surrounding area and were upset having to leave so soon. Should there be a chance of some recompense we would be most grateful.

Immaculately clean. So peaceful.Ducks and chickens roaming free around the duck pond. Grey squirrels in the trees. Went on some lovely walks with the dog. The view from the top of the hill is beautiful.

One of the best properties we've stayed in so far,lovely, clean, everything you need for a guiet stay away great location.

The Bothy is in beautiful surroundings, quiet and very scenic.

It is very modern and nicely furnished with everything holiday makers require. We had regular visits from the local wildlife. It is close to many interesting and historic places to visit and there is an amazing patisserie in Corbridge.

We stayed at The Bothy for a week in February.

On arrival the view when you drive up the hill are amazing. The cottage is set amongst beautiful countryside at the edge of a small cluster of farm and barn conversions and there is a duck pond nearby. The space itself is beautiful and every item in the cottage has been carefully curated by the owners. It was spotlessly clean. The welcome pack was outstanding. All facilities were in good order with a lovely shower. The bed was super comfy and the quietness of the surrounding area ensured a great nights sleep. Our dog enjoyed sitting out on the deck and going for walks in the countryside. There are lots of lovely pubs nearby and great restaurants to try out.

A lovely property, very cosy with a very effective log burner.

Immaculately clean and lovely furnishings. It is possible to buy more logs from the owners. Very quiet location yet within easy walk down the hill to the bus stops. Great location for being able to enjoy nice walks as well as easy access to Corbridge, Hexham, Hadrian's Wall, Tynemouth and Newcastle.

One of the nicest holiday cottages we’ve ever stayed in.

Everything was well thought out, and all fixtures and fittings to a high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with lots of walks in the local area, some great shopping in Corbridge, and then ‘home’ each night to the Bothy to enjoy some relaxation with the log burner providing a comforting warmth. Thanks to the hosts for providing such a lovely rental.

Very well equipped and comfortable, the wood burner made it feel very cosy and welcoming although the cottage was very warm in any case. The welcome goodies were very much appreciated together with the helpful information provided. A good location for touring the area, only a very short drive to Corbridge and Hexham. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful lodge.

Everything top quality. Bed was so comfortable. The welcome pack was a lovely touch with delicious homemade banana cake. The setting is gorgeous with a delightful garden and lovely views. Decking secure, perfect for your little doggo. Highly recommended.

Very pet friendly. Property was very well kept, good quality furnishings which made the stay feel luxurious, cosy wood fire and lovely balcony to sit out on. A very generous welcome which was lovely to arrive to. Lots of nice walks and places do explore local to the property.

Excellent holiday in beautiful countryside.

Property is in immaculate state, provides with everything one needs in modern days. Amazing location, big balcony that has astonishing view on the valley. Massive compliments for the very comfortable bed and huge towels. Clearly they've put in a lot of thinking and effort to make it work for the guests. Welcome pack was great as well as guide book full with pointers and info about entire area. Very modern kitchen with luxury equipment. Hosts did everything to make us feel welcomed, went extra mile to help with anything we needed. Many thanks, will be coming back in the future.

Facilities were excellent and the lodge was placed in a very private, picturesque setting, approximately 2 miles from Corbridge. My only very slight criticism was that the previous renters had had a dog who they must have allowed to sit/sleep on the settee. I could smell 'dog'. This would not stop us from returning to the Bothy.

The property is lovely everything was great the area fabulous, everything was 5 star, couldn't recommend enough!
