High Barns Cottage

Super clean, warm and comfortable as well as being very well equipped.

It is in a good location for exploring the local area and also has good walks on the doorstep. There are good eating places nearby in Longhorsley and Longframlington and the hosts are friendly and helpful. But you definitely need a car since this quiet cottage is right out in the countryside. Fuel and a supermarket are in Morpeth.

Ideal place to stay for two, clean, friendly and in a good spot to tour Northumberland.

The accommodation was completely lovely and very clean with wonderful views over the countryside.

The only fault was we felt the signage at the entrance to the farm could have been more noticeable and not just painted on a rock.

Brilliant location for visiting the south of Northumberland.

What a lovely place to stay.

Very clean, comfortable and with everything you need. Jimmy and Kirsty were the perfect hosts, there if you need them, but un-intrusive if not. It’s so peaceful with spectacular views, and lovely walks on the doorstep. Loads to see close by and the Shoulder of Mutton pub well worth a visit for food and drinks. The EV charger was a real bonus too, well priced, and saved loads of hassle. We would definitely consider returning and would recommend High Barns Cottage without hesitation. Thanks for a lovely relaxing stay.

It has been our absolute pleasure to have stayed at High Barns this February.

The cottage is immaculate and very well equipped for your self catering needs. I was very impressed in particular with the bathroom - underfloor heating and the most wonderful rainfall shower - amazingly relaxing!! It’s a perfect location for exploring Northumberland and the coast but if you just want to relax you are looking through picture windows across the farm, towards the Cheviot hills, sheep grazing in the fields. Totally relaxing. The owners Jimmy and Kirsty are absolutely lovely people and very friendly and accommodating. We are definitely booking again for next year. Thank you.

Our stay at high barns was just about perfect for us.

Beautiful annexe with stunning views. Close to the A1 ,great little shop and a lovely pub just up the road in the village. Everything you need in the annexe,comfortable, warm, and spotlessly clean. Jimmy and kirsty perfect hosts. Nearby if needed and very friendly.we will definitely be back. And highly recommended.

A warm welcome from the owner on arrival and a very comfortable stay.

The pint of organic milk on arrival was most welcome, as were the biscuits. My 5-night stay was over too soon, I hope to revisit in 2026.

A very peaceful and relaxing stay with lovely views.

The accommodation was warm and comfortable, with all the amenities required. The bathroom was standout with its modern, very roomy shower. Well located to reach some lovely beauty spots, including Cragside, all within thirty minutes.

A loverly holiday let in the quite and scenic Northumberland countryside

Jimmy and Kirsty are great hosts, kind and generous with their time and attention even though they are busy on the working farm.

High Barns is a wonderful place for the able bodied who want to get out and about, like my husband who cycled and drove to explore beautiful Northumberland. It's also wonderful for the not so able -myself included- who want to enjoy a stunning view from a comfortable location. Clean, comfortable, well equipped (fab shower, comfy recliner sofa, cosy bed, great kitchen and clothes washing) .....we loved staying at High Barns and want to return! Thank you, Jimmy and Kirsty!

Thoroughly enjoyed our week in this beautiful, peaceful, clean and cosy cottage.

A good base to explore the area from. Appreciated the little extras that were left for us.

The property was all of the above but, more importantly, the folks who own it were very welcoming and the view over the valley from the windows was superb.

The water from the owners own borehole was very soft with no taste whatsoever and made excellent tea and coffee.

Ideally located for visiting family and friends. The scenery and wildlife were a joy to behold, Kirsty and Jimmy were extremely friendly but unobtrusive . We would not hesitate to return.

High Barns is a lovely holiday cottage in beautiful surroundings.

If you like bird watching the garden feeders are great. The cottage has all you could want for a stay and is very clean and comfortable. Although we arrived during Storm Darragh the cottage was warm and cosy. This was our second stay and we would recommend this as an excellent place to stay to explore Northumberland.

The cottage was clean and warm with all the facilities you need away from home.

It's central to most places, close to the sea, the city of Newcastle and the moors. It was a lovely place to celebrate my 65th birthday!

This is a well designed newly built property which had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

It is well placed for visiting the coast and countryside.

A very nice cottage in a tranquil setting but just 2 minutes off the A697 and 10 minutes from Morpeth.

Just about everything you might need has been provided and there is plenty of room. The bed is comfortable, as is the bathroom and walk-in shower. Although the cottage is attached to the farmer's house, it is self contained and feels private. There is no intrusion from the farmer or family. We were there during adverse weather conditions (cold with exceptional rainfall) but there is plenty of heating to make the cottage warm and cosy, and we were very snug. Things to be aware of: - the sofa is quite low with soft cushions, so can be a challenge for those of us of advancing years. - the water tends to pool on the floor of the walk in shower room, so care is needed to avoid flooding the whole bathroom. Overall a very pleasant stay.

This is an excellent, high quality holiday let, simply but tastefully organised, comfortable and with the added bonus of an EV charging facility.

Nice welcome greeting from the owner, Jimmy. The drive up to the cottage and the grounds were beautiful. The views out of the lounge window over the hills were stunning. The cottage was immaculate with everything one could want in the way of home comforts right down to to the welcome pack of organic milk, cookies, tea, coffee etc. The cottage is in easy reach of the A1, ideal to get to attractions like Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island to name but a few. When we are in the area again High Barns will definitely be our first choice.

Jimmy the host was very friendly and helpful. The shower is fantastic! Although this accommodation is attached to the owner's home this was never an issue, and we were made very welcome. An ideal base for exploring the area.

Loved everything about the cottage.

Great layout, spotlessly clean, well equiped kitchen (made use of the crockpot), comfy sofa, great views from the lounge/kitchen diner. Bed was super comfy, plenty of clothes storage. Bathroom/wet room was great and the shower was utter bliss. Couldn't fault anything. Would definitely recommend and we would love to return. Thank you.

A lovely fortnight with great hosts, nothing was too much trouble.

Superb holiday property.

This property was spotlessly clean, very comfortably furnished, quiet, and had excellent views. It’s very rare to stay in holiday accommodation that ticks every box, but this is one of the exceptional few. We thoroughly recommend it, it’s first class.

It was a very comfortable cottage, clean, well laid out, with everything that you could need and it was warm even during a period of snow.

The location was quiet, the views were fantastic but it was only a short drive to a really nice pub. The owners were friendly and welcoming and we had a great stay.

This is a clean and well equipped cottage in a peaceful area.

We were impressed by the range of guide books to this lovely part of Northumberland which the owners are understandably deeply attached to.The bed was comfortable and the bathtoom was spacious with an excellent shower. As the weather was rather wet during our stay, we were glad of the smart televison which enabled us to watch the on demand channels. The only criticism we could reasonably make was that we found the sofa to be rather uncomfortable and it shoud be replaced with a better one or with two armchairs.

Absolutely brilliant place, loved all the animals and wildlife.

Jim the owner was very welcoming and friendly, unfortunately never managed to catch up with Kirsty. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending the cottage to anyone.

We stayed 16-30 September - the cottage is superb and is a real home from home and the hosts are friendly and helpful.

The area is fantastic and meant we were able to visit lots of well known places such as Lindisfarne, Alnwick Castle and Cragside as well the local area and beaches. We will definitely be rebooking in 2024.

Very friendly and helpful owners live next door. Accessed by a single track lane the property has lovely gardens and views over the surrounding countryside. We look forward to further visits in the future.

This is a delightful holiday cottage, off the beaten track and with fantastic views.

The cottage was spacious and equipped with everything you could need and we appreciated the welcome pack left for us. The hosts were very friendly and we enjoyed reading the story of the re-building of the farmhouse and cottage and the photos of each stage, documented in a folder left in the cottage.

It is also well positioned for car trips to the coast and inland, and is altogether very good holiday accomadation. We also appreciated the food snacks the owners left for us on arrival.

What a lovely holiday unexpected welcome with a few local products inc.

local organic milk, tea and coffee for our first cuppa! Miles from other buildings and people, yet our friendly and approachable landlord Jimmy and his wife Kirsty were always available if required, full of local knowledge and recommendations or visits Oh and of course their lovely sheepdog, Meg Idyllic west facing sheep fields and hillside views from the spacious and stylish living room. Similar views from the bedroom. What sunsets and evening Venus views! What a lovely big green interesting, and blossomed garden in the front with its table and benches facing East and South for breakfast or lunches in the sunshine. Varied bird life often seen and heard. Everything throughout the newly stone built cottage was spanking new and clean and stylishly designed All mod cons and machines we needed were available. We didn’t need a washing machine but wondered if other visitors might, although the property was only advertised for two people . However we noted launderettes were available in local towns To top it all Northumberland was even up to providing unexpectedly almost daily and daylong big blue skies and sunshine until late evening in May/early June Highly recommended

Very comfortable well appointed cottage with the most amazing views imaginable.

Jimmy and Kirsty excellent hosts, Jimmy has some amazing tales. Wild ponies, sheep, kestrals, owls, and an amazing woodland/moorland walk. Local pub has great food and cask beers, local shop very friendly and helpful. Easy drive to Morpeth, (although getting out again was a nightmare due to road closures). We will be back.

Excellent property for 2 adults consisting of living/diner/kitchen, shower/toilet and a double bedroom each overlooking the working sheep farm fields through large picture windows in the living room & bedroom.

Comfortable bed, plenty of pans & equipment for kitchen use including spare food containers and cookware in the drawer unit under the tv. Good cooker, microwave, hob, fridge & freezer also a washing machine available in the adjoining building. Freeview & internet access on the tv, radio & audio unit with ability to connect original style iPod & other sound devices. The shower room is modern and simple to use with plenty of almost instant hot water throughout the property. A 7Kwh type 2 connector with 10meter cable car charger available just over the wall which is controlled by the owners without any issues, fair price charged per Kwh based on what they pay which is obviously changeable at the moment. The pictures shown are all accurate but the property is even better in real life. Accurate directions are sent on how to get there but you may find a search for “High Barns” or “The Lamb Man” will find then easily on Apple and Google maps. There was a lovely welcome pack to make a cuppa after our long journey along with a personal introduction from our excellent hosts with information about the property and the area. Plenty to do in the local area at commercial, National Trust & English Heritage properties along with varied moorland, countryside and wonderful beaches. We stayed for 10 days, were busy every day and still needed more time.
