We have stayed in this property a lot and while the accommodation is basic but comfortable we pick it because of its closeness to the beach which is a few steps away, you are in an ideal place for the coastal path .

Has the most amazing stay here.

It is a 30 second walk to the beach. Fabulous area to visit. Would definitely recommend. We are a family of four. (Children 9 and 15) and had a lovely relaxing holiday.

Pretty location, loved that the beach was just across the road.

Massive parking space for the property although it would have been better to have a fence and gate to split it in half so that we could sit outside and watch my young boy play. If I had a dog it would mean extra security too (kids too) as the traffic on the road don’t always realise to slow down (crazy people). Had a brilliant week, didn’t want to leave. Honestly though the beds were very uncomfortable, several sore points every night and I kept bumping my leg on the drawers that I couldn’t push in. Seating so very low down and my mother found it very difficult to get back up. Shower not powerful enough and could not regulate temperature to liking. I love dogs, adore them but living area was covered in dog hairs and for the entire week it did smell like a wet dog. Many places to visit on that coast. Having given my honest review I would love to go back.

The cottage is comfortable and clean. A great base if you like to explore the Northumberland coast, but also plenty to do locally. We enjoyed a trip to Hauxley nature reserve, Amble, Bamburgh Castle , Craster and seahouses. The location is perfect for the amazing beach. Less than 2 mins walk. Highly recommend. Thank you

Sandy Knowes was comfortable, clean and pleasant.

It was very close to the beach, within walking distance of the shops and restaurants in Amble, and well place for driving to other attactions in Northumberland. Our only very minor quibble was the lack of a bath mat. We would go again.

My friend and me plus Labrador had the best time in this beautiful cottage perfectly located for walking and near the village of Amble with plenty amenities.

We loved the location because it was quiet and so near the coastal path and beach while still being within walking distance of Amble. Owner very helpful and accommodating with a very much appreciated bottle of wine on arrival -many thanks again .

Nothing beats the location of this cottage.

Love it. Useful things to know - a short walk to Hauxley Nature Reserve where you find the best freshly scones in the cafe each morning. Also the cottage fridge is absolutely minuscule so don’t bring too much food or any large milks that needs to be kept cold - though it does have a tiny ice box. We were toasty warm even in cold windy weather so it’s a solid winter choice. And the owner is attentive and friendly by text. Thank you.

Second time we have stayed here, a perfect location , quiet and next to the beach.

The cottage is comfortable but needs a little tlc, eg there is a board missing under the cooker, paint is missing from the skirting board on the stairs. I had to search for instruction leaflets for cooker as I didnt know how to work it, eventually found in a kitchen drawer. Maybe a file with all info in would be useful. Also a little more kitchen equipment, scales, a few more pans, sharper knives. Having said this it was an enjoyable satay, cmfy beds and a lovely cottage. Have booked again for next tear

The shower not great and there was a large gap under the cooker Felt bit drafty.

Lovely place to relax and unwind, we did have an issue with shelf on fridge door but was attended to quickly.

Sofas are a little low and you do need to close blind in bathroom due to overlooking house. Overall a good property especially if you enjoy relaxing beach walks. You can find sea glass on the beach and unusual rocks

We have stayed here a few times and it isn't posh but it is comfortable and very close to the beach and normally very peaceful.

During our stay they were having a new drive fitted so obviously not very peaceful and needed to allow the workers into the property, having said that we have already booked for next year and will now benefit from a sitting out area and a nice drive so just unlucky that it was done during our stay.

Nice place - perfectly placed and comfortable, good location for exploring and excellent proximity to the beach.

Lovely cottage very near a beach

Lovely cottage had all the equipment required.

Very close to the beach. Our only comments are it could do with a rubber bath mat and although the settees & chair were made of lovely leather, very soft & large they were all very low (not very ergonomic) I struggled to get out of them. at least one of the settees could do to be raised by at least 4 inches , just for us oldies!!

The cottage is in a lovely location can't fault it for that , but the sofa was extremely uncomfortable and too low , also the mattress on the beds far too soft and was bending in the middle so very uncomfortable, I feel if the owner addressed these issues it would be a lovely place to stay but my back was in bits after a week here sorry to say .

The location of this cottage cannot be understated.

Literally seconds from the beach - and what a beach (miles and miles, clean, sandy , beautiful). Could hear the sea from the front bedroom window. Cottage was well equipped with everything needed except for a hair dryer - a small thing but I had to go and buy one. Also a starter pack for the fire would have been good but managed to buy some wood from the nearby Morrison's so not a big issue. Beds were comfy as were the towels. Kitchen is lovely and we appreciated the bottle of wine and shortbread - thanks! Suggestion to owner would be to tidy up the car parking space area as we picked up bits of glass and lots of rubble, and also advise of the building work next door. However that said we would love to return and would recommend this cottage if you are looking for a retreat with fab beach access and lots of walks on the doorstep.

The property is in a perfect location.

The outside of the property could definitely do with some attention as this gives people their first impression of the property and also as you come into Low Hauxley it is a well presented village so this unkempt property stands out. The cleanliness was ok, I say this as there was dust visible in certain areas. Apart from this we would book again.

The sofas are in need of renewing. The cottage needs some love & money spending, carpets and rugs in need of a clean / renewal, outside area very disappointing. Dampness apparent.

The cottage is in the perfect spot for walking.

We took our dog and the beach is literally your front garden. We walked from the cottage into amble. The cottage was very clean and tidy and everything was provided. The owner was very friendly and made sure we knew we could contact her if needed anything. We’ll definitely return to Sandy Knowes

Sofas, could be a bit higher, as difficult to get out of.

Wasn't told about the building site next door, as the music was extremely loud from the workmen. But the area was amazing and the walking trails were great, nice and quiet beach, once the building next door is finished, it will be very peaceful, definitely will be returning.

This is the second time we have stayed at this property and for us it is in an ideal position and my disabled husband can be at the beach in a few steps wuth a cuppa watching the world go by.

Some parts of the property could do with a little bit maintenance but we have already booked for next year and would recommend . Ideal position on a bridle path with long walks and wildlife and right on the beach and only two miles from amble.

Nice relaxing time. Welcome box and wine from Cinty were much appreciated. Lovely homely cottage in a gorgeous area. The walks on the beach everyday were fantastic, you can really unwind.

This is the third time we have stayed at Sandy Knowes and, once again, we have had a lovely time there.

Cinty is a lovely host - very welcoming and really wants to ensure her guests have a relaxing time. The welcome pack of teabags, biscuits, eggs from.her own hens was a lovely touch. The cottage is clean, comfortable and, for us at least, has a definite ''hone from home' feeling. Our friend came with us this time and she also said the same. The beach is literally a 2 minute walk from the house and affords views across to Coquet Island and to.Druridge Bay. The views across the bay from the landing window are stunning - particularly in tne morning. Druridge Bay Country Park is about 2 or 3 miles walk away along the Coast Path (which runs alongside the cottage) and is well worth a visit. All in all, Sandy Knowes is a really good base for exploring the beautiful.stretch of coastline, including Berwick, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Alnmouth, Craster, Dunstanburgh, Warkworth and, of course, Amble. Castles galore on that stretch!!! Please note that I have given facilities and maintenance a 3 rating simply because the outside parking area is AWAITING some attention. This is not due to neglect by Cinty. It is because, as I understand it, that area has only very recently come under Cinty's ownership. It is perfectly acceptable as a parking space and I only mention it because of some comments in the visitor book. It certainly didnt bother us! It is probably now big enough to accommodate 2 medium size cars - but would be best to check that before arriving / booking as there is no on street parking in the village. All in all, a lovely place to.stay and we will definitely be back for a 4th stay. Thank you Cinty. Ann and Andrew Rodgers

We both enjoyed our week at Sandy Knowes.

The house was clean and comfortable with lovely views of the long beach which was just a few strides away. Our cocker spaniel loved it. Cinty the owner, left a very good welcome pack including eggs from her pet hens. Helen and Mike.

Lovely location although constant traffic and walkers along the lane means that as there’s no blind or window covering on lounge there’s very little privacy when sitting and relaxing.

Minor issue is that the Sofas in the lounge are a little well worn. Cinty has ensured that the facilities in the cottage especially in the kitchen are excellent. There’s nothing you could wish for that isn’t available. It was a nice touch on arrival to find a cheese board, coffee for the cafetière and fresh eggs from her own hens. The cottage is situated in an excellent area for exploring Northumberland and we even went up to the Scottish Borders. All told we had a lovely week.

We had a brilliant stay in Sandy Knowles cottage.

It is cosy, has everything you need for an holiday and has a truly traditional ambience. Weather was inclement but we still had walks on the beach as it is just across the road ….and stretched for miles. The beds are very comfortable and we slept really well because the village is tucked away on an access only road. We agreed our stay had been truly magical and a return stay is a must.

Great location with stunning views.

The house was perfect for our stay. Upon arrival a lovely cheese board and wine welcome gift. We took the opportunity to light the log burner most evenings! The house was clean, comfortable and plenty of room. Met a few local residents who were very welcoming. Beautiful walks straight from the door step. Lots of eateries in Amble were dog friendly. Great communication from the owner. Great cottage and would happily recommend.

Beach was opposite and the dog loved this . Plenty of things to do in this area and lovely walk to amble . We will hopefully visit again next year

In a great location 2 minutes from a nice sandy beach. Near to the amenities in Amble. Loads of places to see in the area .Cottage was very clean and tidy. The sofas were a little too low and soft for us, not very comfortable but it did not spoil our holiday. Owner was very nice and informative. Would highly recommend.

The owner Cinty was extremely helpful and made it clear she was contactable throughout our stay should there be any problem. We had a thoroughly relaxing few days and would definitely use again.

Just had a lovely week at Sandy Knowes - our second time here.

The cottage is in a wonderful spot just yards from a sandy beach. The coast path runs right past it and it is approximately 2 miles to the stunning Druridge Bay Countrg Park and the same distance to Amble. Cottage is very clean,warm and comfortable and Cinty, the owner, contacted us during our stay to ensure we were happy with everything. We would happily recommend Sandy Knowes.

I'm struggling to put into words the disappointment of our stay at Sandy Knowles.

Had we paid around £600 for our week then we could have left with a feeling that the accommodation, while a bit grim, adequately facilitated our stay in Low Hauxley, a place we know well and love. As it was, £1175 was way overpriced and we left feeling totally fleeced. Our overriding feeling of Sandy Knowles was of dirt, damp and darkness. The view of the sea from the landing would have been the one plus point had the window not been shot and the view obscured by trapped condensation. The kitchen was well equipped but we had no desire to eat there because the whole place felt grubby… empty bottles by the bins, surrounded by weeds and overgrown vegetation. My supply of white socks was brown by the end of the week. Given the condition of the rest of the cottage, we stripped the beds with trepidation at the end of our stay, to be unsurprisingly rewarded with stained bedding. This reinforced our concern that our fresh insect bites were probably due to Sandy Knowles. We left a day earlier than planned, not because of the unscheduled bore drilling at the adjacent property but because of the general feeling of scratchiness and ultimate let down. It was a relief to get home. The location is fabulous. It would not take much to bring Sandy Knowles up to a decent standard of accommodation. In the meantime, the prices should be lowered significantly and prospective guests warned of the negatives. Photos are available if needed.

Just back from a weeks stay at Sandy Knowes cottage, and would definitely stay here again!

The beach is literally a few steps across from the cottage and the view from the upstairs windows are absolutely Amazing! The cottage itself is a little dated and could do with a bit of an update, but apart from that it was really spacious, comfortable and very homely with everything to hand. The cottage is in a Great location for walking and exploring the wildlife, and the beach is great for our furry friends ... Stanley loved it! Can't wait to return. Thank you!

A great spot for visiting this part of Northumberland. Just birds and dolphins-lovely.We will visit again.

Great property perfect for the beach.

Some great walks from the door. Nature reserves in easy walking and a country park. Weather was good and walk through the dunes into Amble were great. All in all we had a great week. Will definitely return sometime in the future. Just a shame about the toilet seat. Many thanks to Cinty for a early call and the welcome goodies.

The cottage was absolutely perfect for our family, we had everything we needed.

The close proximity to the beach was such a bonus, our kid and the dog loved it. I was up early most mornings enjoying the beach to myself. The bed were the most comfortable I've experienced in years of staying in holiday cottages, and after a week we were all so well rested. We enjoyed the wood stove for the cosy heat it provided. Overall this was one of the best cottages we have stayed in, in a beautiful part of the country. We visited Druridge country park which was excellent for kayaking and wild swimming with the dog, and Cragside Manor which is stunning and not to be missed.

Cosy and comfy, perfectly positioned for the beach and the local nature reserve, Amble is only 10 mins away full of nice local shops.

A great location for anybody looking for a quiet place to stay with access to a range of beaches, coastal walks and local places of interest. The fact that our dog could be with us for this holiday was an added bonus.

If you like coastal path walks & nature reserves this is the place to come. This is an old cottage with lots of charm. Go out of the front door, cross the road & you are on a fantastic beach. Tidy with a well equipped kitchen & cosy, we would definitely like to return. The vase of flowers & the bottle of wine as a welcome gift were very appreciated.

The Cottage was homely and had everything we needed for a family of four.

The owner was responsive and helpful. The location was also great,close enough to get into Amble but far enough out to feel remote with proximity to the beach and sound of the sea. Definitely want to return back soon!

The property was as described very clean and the position to the beach was great.

The only thing against it was the sofa`s and chaires in the loung as they wear very soft and as my wife has had both har knees replaced it was a problem for her to get up out of them, this had been noted by another visiter. This is the only negative, a great property would stay again.

A lovely comfortable cottage with well equipped kitchen and modern bathroom with shower.

Beds very comfortable.We loved the quiet situation with no through road and the proximity to the beach.We will certainly be back sometime. I have only marked down a little for comfort,as being in late 70s we found the very squashy,soft sofas and chair a little uncomfortable,and very low down.All in all we had a lovely relaxing stay.

The location was excellent and this is the best feature of the cottage. It needs a deep clean and serious TLC. The cleanliness was not up to my expectation.

We had a lovely time here in this cottage on the whole and the location is perfect looking out to the sea every day.

Lots of lovely walks nearby and great for dogs and birdwatching. However a few things left amiss in the cottage such as no curtains in one bedroom and other things let the stay down a bit. A good overhaul of the cottage is needed by a professional in the building or electrical trade to bring the very old place upto date. The kitchen and bathroom has been done well but the living area could do with new furniture as the seats are very low. Beds are very comfortable after a day out and about exploring. Generally the location of the place makes up for any issues with the housekeeping. We have been coming to this area for a few years now and it is growing fast from a quiet backwater to a very busy area now as popularity has grown since the lockdowns of recent times. So future holidaymakers may expect more comfort in the cottage.

Great for dog walking. Comfortable king size bed. Didn’t need the log burner but it looked good. Off road parking is always a bonus.

Lovely location.

Beach yards from front door. Ideal for touring nearby attractions. Did feel cottage a little tired in certain areas. Think description should state freezer and tumble drier are actually in garage which felt unable to use due to condition of garage .Even so enjoyed our holiday and would book again.

The property is in a lovely location, close to the beach, however, the facilities were not at the caravan park as listed as it is is the process of changing ownership.

That meant a long walk to Amble for food and drink (if one wanted to have alcohol). As an older property, there was a bit of dust accumulation due to exposed walls. Apart from that it had everything and more we could wish for. Comfortable, close to a lovely beach and access to local sights and attractions.

Sandy Knowles was both more spacious and cosier than we expected from the photographs.

We were so comfortable and relaxed there, it was warm, with soft lighting for dark nights and the log burner added to the evenings. Really well equipped with great living space. Mere seconds from a wonderful beach with other beaches, towns, villages and castles easily accessible. We couldn’t have been happier and would stay again without hesitation.

Went to Sandy knowes as a last minute booking after having a disappointing Christmas.

After talking to the owner who was very helpful in giving us local information we arrived at this lovely cosy cottage with a wonderful beach on the doorstep. Loved watching wonderful sun rises and the deer roaming from the nature reserve in the morning whilst walking out dog. Looking forward to our return.

Location is perfect and we were treat to fabulous weather for November. Very cosy cottage and lovely friendly villagers. Look forward to staying again.

Lovely basic cottage in an ideal spot, no outdoor space but you don't need it as beach only seconds away.

No information folder but don't know if it had been removed because of covid and only complaint I would make is that they could do with an anti slip mat in the bath. We had a lovely time, didn't really want to go home and will definitely book this cottage again.

Lovely cottage great view of the beach

This was our fourth or fifth visit to Sandy Knowes, we love the location, and so close to the beach, walking and cycle trails and the Discovery Centre.

The local residents are friendly, we never go out without chatting to someone. It’s a popular tourist area but where the cottage is located is free of cars wanting to park near the beach, as it’s not allowed. The coastline is beautiful and walking is an absolute pleasure. The cottage does not have a garden but the beach is less than a minute’s walk from the front door. There is a nice view from the front bedroom. A great getaway.

Well for me a garden would have been a good plus, I didn't realise that there was no outside space when I booked it.

also a freezer you are not near a shop so I took a lots of things with me, for me personally I don't want to spend my holiday food shopping. Because of covid I cleaned everything in the kitchen before I used it. Would have preferred a shower mat as bath was slippy. But we did enjoy the break. The dog loved the beach.

Sandy Knowes is a very pleasant cottage in a peaceful location.

It was clean and tidy with good facilities such as a washing machine. The bottle of wine on arrival was a welcoming touch. The beach is across the road as stated. Getting on to it was a bit of an adventure. Access is via a very steep, pebbly slope. I did manage to negotiate it on my crutches but I can't say it was a safe thing to do. It may be wise to point this out to future visitors if it isn't already on your website. (I didn't have the crutches when we booked so I didn't check for accessibility.)

Know the area well but first time in this cottage.

Equipped ok, pity no tea towels and a bit skimpy on handwash, most supply this now. Heating was fine, woodburner an asset in February and sound of sea great, barely 100 metres from beach and coastal path.Amble a good area, plenty good pubs and restaurants and ample shops. Cottage ideal for Nature Reserve which also has a great cafe. Would return again.

Very pleasant cottage in lovely quiet location by beach

The cottage was clean and had all the facilities we needed, the weather was freezing cold while we were there but the cottage was lovely and warm.

The only down side to the property was the parking facilities. We now only have a small car so the area given over to the cottage was adequate but if we had still got our 4x4 it would have been totally inadequate has we would have been parked over the green gates, the person with all the signs up about not parking in front of these gates did not even open the gates or move his car all the time we were there.

Just returned from a fantastic week at Sandy Knowles.

I’m so impressed with the accommodation. It was clean with a lovely bottle of wine and nice biscuits. The sitting room is very comfortable with a leather suite, sky TV, log burner, nest of tables and a table and chairs to sit at. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. The bath room is ideal with a good shower and lovely bath. The bed is comfortable again with all you need. The location is ideal with a very short walk to the sandy and safe beach. If your into walking or cycling the cottage is superbly located. I would highly recommended this cottage.

We have visited this area before, but this was our first time at Low Hauxley, it's a really lovely peaceful location, we found the cottage to be as described, it was very warm, comfortable and homely, there was everything that you need.

My husband and I rarely eat out as we just like to relax over a meal with a nice bottle of wine when we're on holiday. So it was lovely to find such a well equipped kitchen, and a lovely dinner service. We couldn't have asked for more. with the beach just across the road, and the coastal path and country park right on the doorstep, just made for a wonderful relaxing holiday, our border collie Bess, just loved the beach and the many varied walks. The owner was very helpful, and hopefully we shall return here in the near future.

While the location is 10 out of 10 there were a few things we were disappointed in.

The parking is not obvious and I had to contact the owner to clarify it, there needs to be a clear sign saying Sandy Knowes parking as the current signs say "No Parking". When we first went into the cottage, and for the full week we stayed, there was a smell like wet dog in the kitchen. While we appreciate the fact that it is a dog friendly cottage we have stayed in a lot of properties that are dog friendly and not had this problem before, maybe if the carpet in the kitchen was replaced with wood or stone flooring it would solve the issue. The bathroom needs some attention, the shower curtain particular needs replacing. In the living room wall lights have been put up but the brick dust has not been cleaned up. The cottage is ideal for the beach and for the Nature Reserve which you can walk to, and is a good base to travel around the area. The village is in a nice quiet location, and we really slept well.

Just had a fantastic week at sandy Knowles cottage cannot beat the location morning walks on the beach as this is on your door step cottage was lovely clean comfy beds everything there what you need.

What a lovely cottage and the thoughtful gifts on arrival were very much appreciated.

The location was superb, literally paces to the wonderful beach. The cottage was warm and cosy, with everything you need for a holiday. We had such a enjoyable and relaxing time, walking the dog, exploring this coastline. Alnwick, Alnmouth and Warkworth all nearby and all dog friendly. The week flew by far too quickly and we were sad to leave, hopefully we will return.

This was our second visit to this quiet comfortable house.

It is clean and well equipped with two big sofas to relax in,a perfect bedroom with a view of the sea and a spacious bathroom. The night light on the landing is a thoughtful addition. A welcome packet of biscuits and a bottle of wine are generous and better than a carton of milk. The beach being just across the road is another added attraction and a delight for the dog. We love visiting Northumberland and will be staying here again hopefully as it is one of the best houses we have stayed in.

Absolutely amazing location, really couldn’t get any better!

Stepping outside to the beach every morning was a total dream. Amble/Alnwick/Bamburgh and lots of other towns were a short, easy drive away. Warkworth was a lovely little place, very close with nice dog friendly tea rooms and pub, with a beautiful beach too. The cottage was spacious and had everything we needed, very clean and well decorated. Couldn’t ask for much more! Will definitely be staying again soon.

Sandy Knowes is a beautiful cottage which is in the most glorious location; literally a minute away from the coastline.

The log burner is absolutely fantastic and had lots of cosy family evenings.

Have already enquired if I can take the cottage again for next year only for longer. Great kitchen with plenty of kit for cooking. Lots of board games & books to use and a very thorough file of things to do in the area

Sea view from bedroom window. Owner very helpful and left us a bottle of wine as well as bread and milk. Really considerate extras like a Christmas tree and lights. Very warm cosy house. Would love to go and stay there again.

The back garden at the cottage looks like it was a shared area which was totally unsuitable to let dogs or children out without constant supervision

We couldn't believe our luck when we arrived at our cottage at Low Hauxley the location is unbelievable set in a very quiet little village and right opposite the beach perfect for little ones & dogs.

The beach is stunning and when the tide is out you can walk for miles. There is loads to do in this area we had a very active week and would definitely return to this cottage. We expected to the cottage to be small but we were very impressed by how much space we had & it is very comfortable! The only down side would be that it would be good to have some enclosed outside space, but when you have a beach right opposite, it more than makes up for it.

Location was excellent.

Only negative there was no outside space to either sit or dry washing. Cottage was very well equipped and homely. The views from landing window and front bedroom were lovely. In fact I have just recommended Sykes Cottages to my friend.

I had the opportunity to speak with the owner of the cottage before the holiday, she couldn't have been more informative and helpful. I will definitely recommend this cottage, a lovely, holiday full of cherished memories.

Wonderful cottage in idyllic Nortumbria -fab for dogs, spacious and possibly one of most restful holidays we've had - thought my 11 year old would be bored but he loved the rock pools etc- definitely recommend
