Briar Cottage

Wonderful little cottage.

Everything you should need was there. Easy parking too which is an added bonus. Owner was lovely too. She left us a homemade cake which was so lovely and went down very well.

Debra the owner was very helpful and contacted me via text explaining parking etc.

When we arrived she had baked a cake and put milk in the fridge this was very thoughtful. The cottage was clean, cosy and had everything we needed. Loved the surrounding areas and went for several trips eg. Cragside, Alnwick, Morpeth etc.. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet retreat with no distractions .

We loved our stay at Briar Cottage.

The Cottage was lovely and cosy, even in the winter with snow outside. It was quiet and we didn’t notice any noise from the road outside. A well-equipped kitchen - we were able to do cooker breakfast and beef bourginon without any difficulty. The wood burner was a welcome addition and we used it every night. A lovely country retreat. It was a great place to explore Northumbria from - we had day trips up to Lindisfarne and down to Durham. We’re already planning to return in the Spring/Summer, to see some of the sites that were closed over winter. The cottage is just a short drive from lovely Alnwick, which has some lovely restaurants, a great little market and a fantastic second hand bookshop. One point of feedback was that the cottage was still a little chilly when we arrived - it took a little while to warm up from cold, but that was to be expected considering the snow on the ground! Our lovely host Debra had baked us a Victoria Sponge and put the heating on early which was a wonderful welcome to Northumbria. Thank you - we’ll definitely be back again soon!

Cosy cottage, with good accessibility suitable for two people with plenty room.

Shower over bath, could do with a non slip mat for shower. I would recommend this cottage and would definitely book it again.

Briar is a well situated comfortable quiet cottage.

The owners are very friendly but not intrusive. We had a lovely three day break and would happily return.

Debra was very welcoming and friendly and even went to the trouble of baking us a delicious cake. The cottage was comfortable and clean with a very impressive Rangemaster cooker that was a delight to cook meals with. The logfire burner made it warm and cosy in the evening. The bedroom was pretty with a good solid bed and comfortable mattress. And the bathroom was spacious with a very good shower. The location was ideal for us as we were near to Cragside, Wallington House anf Alnwick. Debra also showed us her lovely goats, cows and hens. Would certainly visit again.

Everything was up to a very high standard and it was in a central area for visiting places in Northumberland.The owner was very pleasant and helpful.The homemade cake was lovely. This is a well equipped cottage I would recommend to anyone and a place we would be happy to use for a holiday again.

This cottage is a lovely place to stay.

It was everything we could have expected and more. There there was a lovely welcoming homemade cake, coffee milk etc awaiting us on our arrival . The host is such a lovely person who makes every effort to make sure you are comfortable and happy with everything and even has time for a chat.

We found the cottage perfect for our needs.

It was a great location to tour Northumberland as long as you liked a rural location. Clean well fitted out and perfect as a base for a couple. A lovely warm welcome and an owner who respected your space but was helpful and considerate at all times.

A nice cottage and a lovely welcome of home made cake and honey plus milk.

The sofa was of a decent quality and the bed was comfy. A couple of firmer pillows could be left as an option as the pillows were very squishy. A couple of suggestions would be a crib sheet of how to use appliances,work heating, and bin use and to check crockery as I had dirty cups with lipstick on them. I did not pick up the fact there was no WiFi so had a surprise. Overall a decent cottage with lovely owners .

We had a warm welcome with milk in the fridge and homemade goodies waiting on the table when we arrived. The cottage was clean and cosy and thoughtfully equipped with everything we wanted. Thanks so much for a really relaxing and special mini holiday.

Perfect location in the middle of everything.

Cottage had all we required, and nothing we didn't. Log burner (and the logs) were a great bonus on cold early Spring evenings. The home-made cake, home-produced honey and bottle of milk we lovely welcome touches. Our second visit to the cottages here. That should speak for itself.

Perfect cottage for a couple. A friendly and extremely helpful owner, Debra, who made us very welcome. The location is great because there are so many walks, beaches, castles, towns and other places to explore without driving too far. Great choice of places to eat out as well.

A lovely cottage.

Spotless and cosy with the benefit of a delicious cake to welcome us. It is in a great location, was very peaceful and the owner was very friendly. I would recommend taking bath towels as the ones supplied were tiny and quite abrasive. We went out and bought some. Highly recommended cottage, we’d love to come back.

Welcome gifts were much apprencuated as was the very kind offer of an additional nights stay when storms made onward travel difficult. Warm cosy and comfortable property in location that is ideal for visits to attractions and for hiking opportunities.

Clean, comfortable and cosy. So much to do and see in the stunning Northumberland countryside- all so accessible. My wife and I had a wonderful week and certainly hope to return.

Little gem, Brierley gives you everything - it's well equipped and thought out, cosy cottageness at its best.

It's location is perfect for so many of the best sights Northumberland has to offer and Debra adds those special touches like the cake, flowers and provisions. If you don't fancy going out it's a lovely place to put your feet up, get the fire going and relax. Didn't want to leave!

It is ideally situated for visiting beautiful Northumberland. We enjoyed many fabulous walks. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and had everything you could wish for to enjoy a memorable stay. One small thing that would make it even better is a new mattress.

Debra and Foster, the friendly and helpful owners are on hand should you need any assistance. The cottage is ideally placed for visiting all the local attractions and the moors are just over the road for bracing walks. This was our second visit this year and we highly recommend a stay at the cottage. We are definitely hoping to return.

Stayed here twice and it’s a fabulous cottage.

Well equipped, very clean and a great location for exploring Northumberland. We arrived to the smell of a freshly baked cake which was delicious. Would highly recommend (the cottage and the cake).

We received a very warm welcome from the owner who had baked us a cake, supplied us with milk for a very welcome cup of tea and fresh eggs for breakfast.

It is situated on a cross roads so visiting all the places we had earmarked presented no problems A very enjoyable week

Briar Cottage is a must if you are going to Northumberland.

It’s position is perfect to visit any part of the county. Apart from that Debra and Foster, the owners, are so welcoming and make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. A lovely sponge cake, eggs, coffee and flowers await you on your arrival. I would recommend it over and over again.

We have recently had two fabulous weeks at Briar Cottage.

Debra and Foster, the owners, have made the cottage so warm and welcoming and provided everything (and more) that you would need for a great holiday. The featherlight sponge cake, free range eggs, milk and flowers were a lovely welcoming bonus and set the tone for the holiday. We also enjoyed meeting all the animals and enjoyed it so much that we were reluctant to leave and hope to return soon.

Perhaps a dishwasher would have been better than a washing machine - but not a problem really.

But we might have been glad of a washing machine if we had stayed longer for 2 or 3 weeks. Also, I brought my laptop with me thinking there would be wifi available. But it was nice to cut myself off from the outside world and my wife was pleased I couldn't use the laptop! All round, it was a nice warm comfortable cottage with a good location to go in all directions and we would be happy to stay again.

This is a fab cottage!

Quite remote in terms of shopping etc but well equipped and cosy. The kitchen is great with an excellent range style cooker. No wifi but the 4G signal was excellent, I could stream Sky Sports to my Laptop with no problem. The owners were also very helpful and friendly if you needed any help.

The road was no problem at all due to the double/triple glazing. We had a great week here.

Has all the comforts of home. Fantastic hosts who provide extra little touches. An excellent base to see the amazing scenery. Near to Alnwick Gardens and Castle, and beaches at Alnmouth and Amble. So many places to visit. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Briar cottage is a beautiful and comfortable cottage for two.

It's clean and has everything you will need. Parking in a courtyard outside the door is a bonus. It's location is approximately 3 miles from a lovely village Rothbury where you will find a few shops and pubs and a river. There are so many places to visit with castles and beaches. It's great accommodation with very friendly owners. Highly recommended.

Wonderful break in Northumberland.

The facilities in the cottage were excellent and a real credit to Deborah who provided spotless accommodation. Taking us round and introducing us to all the animals was an added bonus as well as the good weather. We would recommend this cottage without hesitation- it was brilliant.

There was a home made Victoria sponge waiting for us. The cake was amazing. The photos online do not do the cottges justice. When were there the owner Debra asked if my son would like to see the animals. He even got to hold the new baby lambs and the kid goats. He also feed the chickens. The cottage was amazing and i had brought all the things just incase from home but she had thought of it all. Would definitely recommend this place.

Briar Cottage was just what we were expecting.

There were bread,eggs,milk,butter and fresh flowers awaiting us. Debra and Foster were welcoming and friendly. We were near enough to get to the coast and in non Covid times would have visited Cragside and Alnwick castle and gardens which were also nearby.

After what has been an unusual year, it was good to get away and return to Briar Cottage.

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome by Foster and Debra and by the cows, sheep, hens and dog (Briar Cottage Mascot). The moment you enter Briar Cottage, you are met by a warm homely feel and instantly relax into the start of a holiday. On the table there were freshly laid eggs from the hens, a crusty loaf in the bread bin and some milk for a cup of tea. As this was our second visit to Briar Cottage, we knew where everything was and were soon unpacked with our feet up. The cottage is very well equipped with a lovely stove, fabulous shower and really comfy bed. The throw over the bed was so nice that we purchased one like it for our home, effectively taking a piece of Briar Cottage with us. The cottage is so quiet that as the week wore on, we started to wake up later and later in the day. There were several visits to Rothbury for eating out and we'd recommend doing some of the walks shown in the book, that you will find in the cottage. We visited several of the places that we were unable to get to last year and were not disappointed. We'd recommend Roslyn Chapel (Da Vinci Code), it is well worth the trip. Please note that under the current restrictions, it pays to ring ahead and ask if you need to book in advance. We visited the Alnwick Gardens on a hot sunny day (pre-book) and alot of the cafe's were open although socially distanced queuing was the order of the day. The gardens are spectacular and the water features amazing. The roar of the water is fabulous and is an ideal location for photographs. We loved it. Every day we would return late to find Briar Cottage cosy and warm and ready for snuggling down in the evening. There are DVD's in the drawer under the TV if there is nothing worth watching on terrestrial. If you are looking for a quiet romantic get away for two people, Briar Cottage is the place for you. We would recommend Briar Cottage to anyone looking for a break away, and will probably find ourselves back there next year.

A cosy cottage in a great location for visiting Northumberland.

Fabulous base, cozy for two a retreat from the winter weather, but we were still able to have a good explore of the area.

The owners were such good hosts thoughtful to bring us lovely homemade scones when it snowed and kept the courtyard clear to prevent us slipping on the ice.

The nearby beautiful coastal and forest walks.

A beautiful cottage that we would certainly return to.

Freshly baked bread and laid eggs on arrival gave it that extra personal touch. Perfect surroundings for peace and quiet yet not far to all places of interest.

Fabulous holiday cottage!

Very comfortable and warm. Very Quiet too. Upon arrival, we were discovered fresh milk in the fridge, A small loaf of bread and eggs freshly supplied by the hens! The bathroom had lots of fluffy white towels and lashings of hot water. The hosts are very welcoming including the hens, goats and two pigs. The cottage is ideally suited for visiting Cragside House, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle, Lindisfarne and The White Swan, Alnwick. There is loads to see and do, its hard not to get side tracked. The guided tour of Alnwick Castle highlighted the areas where filming has taken place for Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Transformers "The Last Knight." Its well worth taking the tour and it is free too. An archaeology dig was in progress on Lindisfarne and there were plenty of people on hand to explain what was going on and what they had found so far. The nearest chip shop was in Rothbury which is 4 miles from the cottage. As a meal on the first night when you arrive I would recommend this. There are plenty of cafes about the place so you will never be short of somewhere to eat. If you are unsure, Debra and Foster (the hosts) will be able to recommend somewhere suitable for you. Everywhere we went we ended up spending the majority of the day there. On Lindisfarne, you do need to be aware of the tide times so always check before you go. All in all we had a brilliant time, so much so we didn't get to Kielder Forest or the Observatory, so we plan to return in the new year and see these places too. On a final note, we'd like to say thank you to Debra, Foster and Kes for making us feel so welcome.

For all the cottage backs onto a busy road, we were not disturbed by traffic noise when in the cottage.

The family who own the cottage are very friendly and welcoming. The cottage is well placed for exploring Northumberland.

Briar Cottage was great but not the quietist the traffic noise was obvious although didn’t bother us we are used to it and it was warned.

There was also noisy dog next door which maybe holidaymakers. Overall a great location and lovely cottage owners were welcoming and friendly
