“We have stayed in a number of cottages in Northumberland.”

This one was not one of the best. Every other place was very welcoming and even with a welcome pack. The facilities were basic, nothing luxurious. Now that covid is over we thought that having to strip the beds etc before we left was taking advantage. This was not an inexpensive cottage but there was nothing special.

In a fantastic position, straight across the road to the beach. Only 5 mins to Seahouses with shops, plenty of parking, take aways and harbour. Excellent kitchen and friendly owner.

“We can't recommend Quarry Mews highly enough.”

It's perfectly located for walking into Bamburgh or the castle (10-15 minutes), a couple of minutes walk from the dunes and the beach and 2 minutes drive from Seahouses for food and boat trips. If we had to sum up Quarry Mews in one word, it would be "spacious". A good sized bedroom with a comfortable bed, plenty of storage for luggage, a good bathroom with a decent shower, lovely lounge and kitchen upstairs and everything you really need. Looking at photos before we arrived we were worried that there was only a small fridge/freezer, but it's a decent sized fridge and a separate freezer as well. Plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and even a cafetiere and teapot, so fine for making decent tea and coffee during your stay. The only negatives we have are: 1. There is a damp smell in the bathroom if you keep the door closed, but there is a door stop to help keep it open during the day and the smell soon disappears. 2. The tv isn't a smart tv, so no apps, only what's on Freesat (which isn't a lot). The internet isn't very fast (a speed test showed 4mbps) and the phone signal (Three) isn't too strong, so unless the internet speed could be boosted a smart tv wouldn't be any good. Incidentally, at the end of road I had no phone signal at all, so it's just the location. But who is going to spend their holiday watching tv or on the internet! So many things to praise about the cottage, including little signs everywhere telling you how to work everything, which were very handy. Huge thumbs up for those! Note: The message for the tv said if it's on standby, it will wake up when you change channel on the Freesat remote. That didn't work for me, but if you press the power button on the tv remote for 1/2 second, the light changes from red to green and it comes on.

Due to the quarry mews being at the front of the site and with people staying in the other property it felt awkward to use all the grounds e.g. the pond area and the seating area.

“Great property in a fantastic location.”

Disappointed that there was no outside seating area, especially as we had brilliant sunshine every day. Outside area could be improved. Recycling quite confusing, we ended up taking some home with us!

There is a dedicated seating area for the mews apartment / house .its outside the arch opposite the car parking it has 2 seats and a table between .cushions are inside the house. it’s in the information notes . Would be interested to know what facilities could be improved . Property Owner

“A lovely comfortable well equipped cottage in a fabulous location close to Bamburgh Castle and with a sandy beach just a short walk away through the car park and over the dunes.”

Our only criticism is that there is a clear glass window in the upper part of the front door which looked straight through into the ground floor bedroom giving little sense of privacy. An opaque window would have been preferable.

“Cottage nicely decorated.”

Not impressed with the.towels, bit basic. Bedroom curtains need to be blackouts, and easier to pull. Couldn’t make the cooker work properly,( even after calling the owner for help). Finally, this cottage was situated right next to a large family rentable property, which we weren’t able to see in the picture. Fortunately, unoccupied the week we were there, but would have caused massive privacy problems had it been occupied.

Why do we need to strip the beds surely this is a job done by the cleaners and not the customers. But having said that it’s a wonderful cottage and wouldn’t stop me from returning.

Everything was immaculately clean and well maintained. We immediately felt very much at home. It’s in a brilliant location too - it’s very quiet, being far enough away from the road, but it’s a perfect base for getting out and about in the area. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here again!

Quarry Mews is an excellent detached, newly refurbished property located on the outskirts of the popular village of Bamburgh.

Only a short walk from the beach and village it is a wonderful retreat for a couple.

Finished to a high standard with top quality fixtures and fittings, Quarry mews is a fantastic bolthole with stunning views over the dunes and towards the Farne Islands.

The property is arranged over two levels with the living accommodation on the first floor showing off the amazing views. GROUND FLOOR Bedroom with king-size bed and en suite shower, WC and basin. FIRST FLOOR Open plan kitchen, living and dining area with views over dunes and towards the Farne Islands. Kitchen area with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Living/dining area with flat screen TV/DVD, iPod docking station and sofa bed. OTHER FACILITIES Outside gravel area.

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
