“The property was well-maintained and spotlessly clean.”

The accommodation is very spacious with simple, neutral decor and the dual aspect stove is genius though we had no need to use it. The welcome pack waiting for us in the kitchen was a nice and generous touch. The beds were very comfortable, the towels luxurious, and we found that everything we needed had been provided. Some hand wash in the bedrooms would have been welcome and perhaps a small fan in the upstairs rooms which became warm by evening. There are a number of properties nearby but ...

There are a number of properties nearby but there was no 'neighbour noise' whatsoever. Access is close to the main road but the name of the cottage is not immediately visible as you enter (the plaque is beside the door). We suggest putting a sign on the gate, and agreed that parking for more than two cars would be tight. We were able to enjoy breakfast and drinks outside a couple of times. Some books or additional games for rainy days or dark evenings would be a welcome addition and since the lounge is so large a set of occasional tables to put a mug or glass on while watching TV, chatting or reading, would be very helpful. There was an unfortunate frustrating glitch with the wifi and mobile reception during our stay which the agency needed permission for an enginer to gain access in order to resolve, but our visit was short and we were out when they called. A drop-in to their office on our visit to Seahouses revealed what the problem was and resulted in a helpful conversation. All in all, a lovely area to visit and an enjoyable short break.

About the location

BAMBURGH

Seahouses 3.5 miles; Beadnell 5.1 miles; Alnwick 16.9 miles.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
