“Lovely cottage with a large private garden filled with birds.”

Sheep and hares also visited at the bottom of the garden and we loved next doors hens! Very peaceful, comfortable stay and close to many lovely places to visit. We had everything we needed in regards to crockery, linens and equipment. Thank you for a lovely stay.

“Loved our stay at Stable Cottage!”

Lovely quiet spot but not too far to walk into the village. A good central location to visit all the beaches and tourist attractions.Warm and comfortable, we didn't need to light the wood burner as electric heating very efficient. Lovely garden and friendly hens that visited every morning! There was everything we needed and recommend that you book for a stay.

“This was a lovely cottage well appointed and warm .”

The garden was particularly good . The kitchen was well equipped ( apart from only 3 teaspoons ) The shower worked well the bedrooms were comfortable . The sitting room homely . Being within walking distance of Belford centre was a plus . I can recommend the deli . Lots of places in easy reach .. holy island ,Banburgh , Berwick and Alnwick all worth a visit . Would highly recommend this cottage .

“Overall we enjoyed our stay and the surroundings and garden were lovely however there were a few things that we would like to feedback to help future bookings.”

Bathroom had a slight damp smell and for 5 nights would have liked an additional toilet roll. Main bedroom mattress wasn’t particularly comfortable and springs made a noise when we moved. Some of the cups in kitchen were dirty. Would have helped if some kindling wood was available plus some instructions for the fire as it was difficult to light.

“This is a comfortable well laid out, clean and equipped property.”

Access, parking and facilities are good. We did not meet the owners who live opposite but everything was easy to use inside. There were books, games and DVDs in addition. We appreciated the biscuits, tea and coffee left to use and wood for the stove. There was a lot of useful tourist information left to use. There were some bulbs needed replacing inside. The bedroom curtains let in sunlight in the morning - blackout linings or blind in summer would be appreciated. There was a minor leak from the shower at the side which pooled next to the toilet which is of concern for the integrity of the flooring. This might be a faulty sliding door seal or sealant of the glass panel. The shower base is very slippery and a shower mat would be useful for children and the elderly.

The only down side would have to be the shower, the shower is good the only thing wrong I would say is that there isn’t a shelve to put shower gel etc, you just have to put it on the floor of the shower unit. It still wouldn’t stop us coming back though

Comfy beds, fabulous shower, well equipped kitchen. The log burner is lovely for atmosphere but it’s not needed for warmth. Great communication from the owners before our stay. For light sleepers, the curtains are thin in the bedrooms, which in February was no problem because there’s hardly any artificial light outside (great for star gazing), but in the summer I’d imagine eye masks would definitely be needed. We’ll definitely use this cottage again and would highly recommend it.

The stove in the lounge was one of the best we have encountered, being easy to light and providing lots of heat; ideal on a winter's night. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the bedroom had a lovely outlook onto the garden. The proprietor, Emma, introduced herself and was available to assist with any matters which might have arisen. We definitely hope to return.

Comfortable and with everything you'd need. Owners are helpful but not intrusive. Neighbours are lovely. Beware if you stay in on a Monday. The local quarry blasts weekly. Sets off all the car alarms. Not so frightening if you know it's coming.

“We had a lovely week away in Belford staying at stable cottage.”

Everything you need home from home is in this house. The garden is beautiful. A few negatives. The house could have done with been a little cleaner, dust in places, the towel rail in the bathroom was extremely dusty I had to clean it myself, the top of the toilet and the bin in the bathroom also. Skirting boards here and there stained and dusty. Nothing too major. The two houses either side of stable cottage are having work done on them, the house to the left has a digger in the garden that’s pretty noisy in the day (any time from 8.30am) again not a massive issue but means the lovely garden cannot be enjoyed to it’s full potential due to the noise. Overall stable cottage is a lovely little house and a great base for exploring Northumberland and the beautiful beaches. We would highly recommend stable cottage.

The most beautiful countryside. Covid 19 did not impinge on holiday expectations as good compliance with guidelines including the advice given for the cottage. Helpful owners who catered for bike storage. Sustrans 1 cycle route was challenging and the cyclist needs were on the whole well set up. The weather was unusually glorious!

Within easy driving distance to Alnwick, Seahouses, Bamburgh, Spittal - beautiful beach and Berwick upon Tweed. There is also a lovely beach at Scremerston.

“The images listed for Stable Cottage do not give the house and garden justice - in reality the property is amazing; the furnishings are quaint and cottage like and of superior quality.”

The location is superb; nice and quiet like we like it and within easy driving reach of the coastal and inland sights. The property is packed with books, CDs, DVDs, games etc. There was even a badminton set to use in the garden; and although in our 50s we have come home and decided to take up badminton as it was such a buzz! We were welcomed with fresh flowers and biscuits and even some tea bags to get us started. The internet was magic and worked better than at home. We had a great time and will definately return.

“The positive bits!”

* The cottage was well described, cosy and a home-from-home, which is what I wanted. * A good location for exploring that part of Northumberland. * Represented good value for money for the time of year. * I would stay there again. Aspects to consider improving upon: * Generally the cottage was in good condition, albeit the small sofa appeared quite old and was not as comfortable as I would have liked. * The kitchen was well equipment and of a good standard in general. Some of the cooking pots and pans were worn and showing their age. * When removing the bedding on the final morning before leaving, it was only then that I noticed that the pillows were quite badly stained underneath the pillow case and did look poor. Pillows should perhaps be changed more regularly. These are suggested aspects to improve the cottage and irrespective of the above, I would book the cottage again. It was a good holiday. Ian Dolman

Although it is very close to the A1 it is quiet and perfectly located for exploring the region. There were lots of little touches which we appreciated such as the many lamps, all operated by one switch and the cosy wood burning stove although we didn't need to use it. The garden is a decent size for children to play. We also appreciated the selection of toys and children's books.

The property

A charming mid-terrace, single-storey cottage, forming part of a former mid-19th century stable block, situated within easy walking distance of the centre of the village of Belford. Recently re-opened (July 2023) after renovation with new kitchen and bathroom. Full of character and comfort, Stable Cottage boasts a fabulous open plan living area with original open roof trusses and cast iron wood-burning stove, along with two cosy bedrooms overlooking a sheltered rear courtyard and lawned garden below. Further down from the lawned area is a small paddock, which is home to the owners’ hens and sometimes sheep too. The village of Belford offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, while the cottage is also ideally situated for exploring the delightful coastal village of Bamburgh, Northumberland's beautiful Heritage Coast, Holy Island and the Scottish Borders. Newcastle and Edinburgh are easily accessible for day trips. A fantastic base for a truly relaxing holiday.

Alnwick 15 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 15 miles; Bamburgh 5 miles.

The picturesque Northumberland village of Belford lies in the heart of Heritage countryside, midway between the popular walled towns of Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed. The pretty coastal village of Bamburgh, with its sweeping beaches and dramatic castle, is only a short drive away. Belford itself is an old coaching village with a pleasant square and offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. It is ideally placed for exploring the Northumbrian Coastal Route, Cheviots, the renowned Northumberland Coastline and the Scottish Borders. The opportunity to visit the bird sanctuary or seal colony on the famous Farne Islands with boat trips running daily from nearby Seahouses, is not to be missed. Alternatively check the tide times and cross to Holy Island to visit the historic Lindisfarne Priory.
