Excellent host,very helpful,cottage set in peaceful location ideally suited to explore Alnwick/Bamburgh and Northumberland coast.

What a wonderful week we have had in this beautiful cottage with the most stunning views.

Thank you to Debbie and John for such a warm welcome, it was lovely to meet you both. The cottage is absolutely spotless and has everything you could possibly need and the location is perfect. Can't wait to return!

Coal Drops is one of the best holiday properties we have stayed in.

Clean, comfortable and everything you needed. The garden area was great for the dogs and wonderful views. Great location for exploring the area.

We had a lovely time at Coal Drops.

It was very clean and spacious with everything we needed on hand. Debbie was very helpful and made a big fuss of our dogs who loved it. Looking out of the big windows and barking at the pheasant, other birds, rabbit and sheep but not disturbing any other people. We found some lovely beaches for dog walks. Alnwick is a lovely town and the countryside is spectacular.

The property was in a peaceful location, had everything we required and was super warm and cosy. Debbie and John were very friendly hosts and so welcoming to us and our 2 springies, nothing to much trouble. A great base for all the beauty Northumberland has to offer. While this cottage is not advertised as suitable for people with disabilities the photos suggest it is.

Cottage is Very clean, comfortable and warm.. Looks from photos as suitable for ambulant wheelchair users. Would be useful to include the two steep steps from the dive to the patio may present some difficulty for ambulant people with disabilities.. A handrail would help. Wheelchair access is possible but difficult as it includes crossing grass which is bumpy to access patio. A smooth concrete path would make a real difference. Once inside the space is fully accessible. People with disabilities need to be able to stand and take a few steps to use bathroom, shower room and toilets which do not have any handrails. One room has bath with shower over, the a floor level shower with small lip bathrooms do not have any handrails and is not wheelchair accessible. Both myself and daughter have disabilities and managed well. Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Bring your own oven gloves. Wonderful views and lots of places of interest nearby.

It was our third visit to Coaldrops and we really enjoyed it again and will be coming back soon.

The only two improvement we could think of to improve our stay would be a larger smart tv in the lounge and a tv on the wall in the bedroom. Not a lot on free view tv to watch. An additional large frying pan would also be welcomed.

Beautiful location.

Owner very friendly and keen to make sure you have everything you need. It snowed while we were there and temperature dropped to freezing but was lovely and toasty in the lodge. Would definitely return.

We stayed for 1 week with our 2 dogs.

This is the second time we have stayed . The area is wonderful. The most beautiful huge beaches lovely walks ,castles and of course Barter’s books with the railway running round the shop which my husband loves. The house is open plan with a bedroom and bathroom at each end . Immaculately clean - and i’m fussy with cleanliness. Everything you need in the kitchen . Well decorated , comfortable not over cluttered with things you don’t need . A beautiful large garden to take the dogs into and the owners are friendly welcoming and helpful. The only 1 suggestion is maybe have a king size bed in 1 of the bedrooms . The double was very comfortable but my husband is a big guy and we couldn’t fit in the small bed so he slept in the other bedroom . Thank you for a lovely holiday

Coal Drops is a wonderful cottage with everything needed for a comfortable, quiet and relaxing holiday.

The owner Debbie, was absolutely delightful. We would definitely recommend Coal Drops to anyone and we look forward to returning as soon as possible.

The comfortable property is in a beautiful rural location a short distance from the owner’s house but feels secluded with a large secure garden , ideal if you have a dog.

It is also ideally situated near Alnwick and the coast and also the equally beautiful countryside to the west. Debbie and John are most welcoming but unobtrusive and on hand should you need advice or help.

We have been going to Coal Drops since it opened in 2019 and always look forward to our time there.

What a wonderful holiday cottage, clean and well equipped.

Hosts Debbie and John were very welcoming, offering advice on places to visit and eat. Great location - 5 min drive to Alnwick, 30 mins to a wonderful beach in Alnmouth and loads more,50 to Hadrian’s wall and the gap and about the same to Bamburgh. Highly recommend and would love to come back

We had a lovely week at coal drops.

The owner was on site and welcomed us with information. The lovely welcome pack was very welcome too. Also the dog was not forgotten with some biscuits. She also offered to have our dog if we needed to go somewhere on our own which was lovely of her. The place was very welcoming and clean and had everything you wanted. Luckily we were blessed with some lovely weather so was made even better. We will be back in the future for another lovely stay. Thankyou to the owners again for a great week.

One of the best cottages we have stayed in through Sykes, everything available, absolutely lovely scenery from inside cottage so on these winter weeks was nice to be comfortable but still see the outside world.

We have been visiting Coal Drops at least once a year since 2019.

Lovely quiet location and great for visits to both the coast and inland sights of Northumberland. Even though the weather wasn't always dry Coal Drops was lovely and warm to return to. We will be back again next month.

Amazing views when having your morning cup of tea or a little drink at night. Plenty of fresh towels on arrival. A very thoughtful welcome pack for arrival including milk and tea bags, ideal for the journey getting there.

We’ve had a wonderful second stay here at Coal Drops and enjoyed it just as much as the last time.

I’ve put 10/10 that I would recommend, as I always do recommend that people stay here and visit the area. I’ve put 5/5 for rating the stay, as there is nothing not to like and Debbie and John are wonderful hosts. There are no issues at all and I would more than likely stay a third time. If I was to comment on anything, it would be the possibility of replacing the tired blinds and upgrading the tv to a smart tv. However these aren’t things that spoil the experience or put me off staying again, they’re only things to think about, especially now the price to stay for a week has increased. Also, the floor gets very slippy if you do not have shoes on, so if just in socks the floor is very slippy, something to just be mindful of with children like we have or if elderly. So comfortable with everything you could wish for and much more! Very relaxing holiday with lovely welcome gifts from extremely pleasant and welcoming owners. We have stayed in lots of holiday cottages but I would rate this as one of the best. Our second visit and hopefully not our last.

The only things we lacked at the cottage were salt, pepper and a dishcloth.

All things we could have brought with us or have easily acquired from the owner had we asked. The cottage was really nice, though the slatted bedroom blinds do not provide much darkness when the nights are short and light. The owners were very welcoming and offered to help with anything we needed. Such a lovely spot. Shame the weather didn't do it justice all week!!

The cottage has all the facilities you need and was spotlessly clean. The views from the picture windows were superb and there was always something to see even on a rainy day. We would especially like to thank the proprietors for their very warm welcome. They very much went the extra mile - even providing some information regarding the history of the railway which passed through which was of great interest to us. We would thoroughly recommend Coal Drops to anyone wishing to visit the Northumberland area.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coaldrops.

Our hosts were extremely hospitable and helpful. A lovely welcome pack on arrrival. Super cottage. Super gardens. Loads of room for the dogs to have a grand time in the garden. The driveway to the cottage is a tight turn if you nose in, but reverse in it’s much easier…took me 5 days to work that out! ;-) The only reason I am marking down a little on comfort, and it’s a personal thing, we tend to have blackout blinds and curtains in our bedrooms at home, so it was hard for us to transition to light bedrooms.

Coaldrops is a very clean,well equipped property.

The owners very kindly allowed our dogs to enjoy the large garden.We had a good week despite the very stormy weather.The photos don't disappoint when it comes to the view either. We were disappointed not to find a smart TV despite the property having good WiFi.In the darker winter months this would be a good addition. The property does not have mains water & this can be a problem if there is powercut as the water pump ceases working. Debbie & John are very welcoming & do their best to ensure everyone has a good time in the cottage.

Together with very experienced, professional and caring owners, Coal Drop is an amazing property set in the heart of beautiful and rugged Northumbrian countryside. A fine base for adventure walks and attractions within a short range. Coal Drop is so sound that we have booked it for the third time even though we were still there.

Coaldrops accommodation is the perfect stay in a perfect setting.

The hosts are super accommodating, friendly and informative. They spoilt our dog who loved the vast grounds that were kept at a high standard and she was treated like one of the family. We would love to return at a later date and highly recommend it.

We all had a lovely time at Coal Drops.

(2 adults and 2 children). Coal Drops is located perfectly to get to all of the best places - Alnwick, Amble, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadnell, Druridge Bay Country Park, Craster and Holy Island to name a few! All not far away! There is so much to see and do, kids or no kids. You can see Edlingham Castle from the beautiful garden, which is well worth a trip up to see, not far at all. We would love to go back sometime!

4th visit to coal drops, perfect cottage with everything you could need and more, lovely grounds, very helpful owners that provide you with lots of ideas of where to visit and where to dine, in our case dog friendly, we look forward to our visit every year and have recommended it to friends.

Coal Drops is an excellent cottage for anyone wanting to explore Northumberland.

Both the coast and inland areas are within easy reach, and the view from the property makes you feel you are already in the depths of the countryside. Debbie was an great host, quickly responding to a minor issue. She also pointed us to an excellent ice cream parlour we had never heard of! Would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Northumberland for the first time, or repeat visitors like us.

We had a wonderful stay in Coal Drops, a lovely well furnished cozy cottage early December for our start to the Christmas Celebrations.

Lovely property & welcoming owners !

Despite being quite remote, the proximity of the owner’s house & the town of Alnwick means you enjoy the best of both worlds - peace, quiet, amazingly dark night skies but with easy access to plenty of things to do. Presence of a washing machine didn’t seem to be mentioned in property description, but was a welcome extra. Owner Debbie could not have been more hospitable & particularly welcomed our spaniel Joe. Our 2nd Winter stay at Coal Drops & we hope to return.

This is now our third stay at Coal Drops.

Honestly, it’s our little heaven away from the world where we can just stop and do as little or as much as we want. On this occasion my husband had been working 70 hours and we chose to stay in. We watched the snow fall, Christmas films, cooked meals, read books, slept in and basically decompressed from the stresses of everyday life and it was perfectly wonderful. The host, Debbie has always been so helpful and welcoming. We are now booked for a forth stay next December for another relaxing escape week.

The cottage was every bit as good as we'd hoped.

It was extremely clean and well appointed and remarkably warm. It made a pleasant change to be greeted by the owner, Debbie, who provided invaluable information face to face. Coal Drops was a very attractive and comfortable base from which to explore Northumberland.

I have used the SYKES site on numerous occasions for my holiday rentals and have never had any negative outcomes.

In relation to Coal Drops, near Alnwick, the positive outcome continued. This property was immaculate in all areas from location, cleanliness and attention from the owner (Debbie ). Coal Drops is steeped in history and Debbie provided interesting information to that effect. The property is in a rural location situated some 4 miles from Alnwick overlooking some amazing views including an ancient castle. This property provides the ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the wonderful county of Northumberland and to experience the semi-solitude it provides. I loved it so much that I booked Coal Drops via SYKES for a return visit next year.

This is a Hidden Gem.

Debbie provides excellent service as a Host always on hand if help needed (even though they were away on holiday themselves). They provided an additional contact number as well. 5⭐️ communication through the week. Coal drops is in an idyllic setting, and yet only a short drive over the Alnwick Moors into Alnwick itself. This is a home from home property and will definitely be returning.

The lodge was lovely and the views even better. Debbie was so friendly and helpful and provided a lovely welcome pack. It was a lovely break away for us both and the dogs.

This trip to Coal Drops Cottage was a Christmas gift to Nora my mother in law who is 88years old.

My husband and I and our 2 border terriers Nell and Phoebe accompanied her on this 3 night break. We were delighted to find how lovely the property was. We couldn’t fault it at all. When we have trips like this we always take cleaning products with us but everything was provided, all the cutlery and crockery were of good quality and the cottage was very clean. The views were lovely and the cottage was very warm and cosy. The owners were very helpful and cheery. All in all a great trip away and we would all love to go back.

Due to Storm Arwen it was touch & go whether the power supply for Coal Drops would be restored in time for our holiday.

Despite the owners having to spend a week plus in a hotel for the same reason, we were kept up to date by them & our holiday was eventually possible. The cottage was fantastic & there was plenty to do in the area despite me the obvious devastation - they’re tough & resilient in Northumberland ! Lovely cottage & very kind considerate owners who really welcome your dogs too……

We love going back to Coal Drops it's like our second home.

Coal Drops is our favourite holiday cottage we love going back there and at the end of our stay we don't want to come home.

The views were to die for, the seclusion wonderful, and the hosts excellent, as this was our first visit to Northumberland we were impressed with the countryside and loved the wide open spaces and our dog had a wonderful time on the beautiful beaches. We look forward to returning one day.

Debbie and John were fantastic, on hand if you needed help or info on local area and days out/eateries. Coal Drops has been furnished to a high quality which made our stay very comfortable. The garden is wonderful, Poppy loved running around it and sniffing out the rabbits, hedgehogs. Lots of places to see and do, something for everyone, or just enjoy the peace and quiet, I watched And enjoyed the views for ages out of the big patio doors.

Debbie and John were fantastic and the property is amazing , with a location second to none.

Staying at Coal Drop Cottage has been one of our best family holidays to date, the kids loved exploring the garden, looking at the cows in the field and with the National park ten minutes drive away with plenty of things to do and places to go, twenty minutes in the opposite direction and you have some of the best beaches on offer in the UK ,unlimited fun for the kids. I would highly recommend a stay at Coal Drop Cottage

The place was wonderful beautiful views.

Clean and comfortable, owner really friendly and helpful. Nicely remote but not to remote. Definitely going to try to go again. The only thing that was an issue was the beds moved every time we sat on them so we had to be careful. Please ask the owner to place rubber cups (you can get them from a DIY store) under the wheels of the beds so there isn’t that issue anymore.

The property was lovely, the location is great, we all enjoyed the holiday, the only thing I would suggest would be unlimited internet, whilst I agree that the internet is not an important add-on, if there is nothing todo due to the weather, or if you have a family with children you would need internet unrestricted access

On the whole the cottage was very good and in a good location, the owners were helpful and on hand.

the cottage was new so there were a few teething issues that when sorted out would make it a perfect place for a family with dogs.
