“The accommodation was in a great location and surprisingly quiet being that it was on the main road.”
The accommodation was spotless and it was extremely well equipped. There was plenty of utensils, board games, bucket and spades ect. These little things make a great difference. The welcome pack was a great addition
Unfortunately the beds where not up to standard and need changing asap. When you got in the master bed, you slopped to the middle, which made for a very uncomfortable nights sleep. I'm only 37 and in great physical health, and I've returned home with an achy back. The mattress on the bottom bunk was well used and when you lead on it the springs could be felt. We did turn it over and it was better but not what we'd come to expect from Northumbria Cottages. Most of our party unfortunately suffered with niggles due to the beds and it wasn't that we were just not used to the beds.
The parking is a little tight but it is a good addition to the property considering it is in the centre of town. Unfortunately the neighbour across the back was not very nice and seems to take issue with holiday makers using the shared access. He parks his car in such a way you have to reverse on the main road. I was struggling to get our car out and he was out straight away standing in front of my car, shaking his head at me and telling me to back up. As a women out there on my own i found this very intimating. All he had to do was move his car slightly back, but he preferred to watch me struggle. Once you get the hang of it, it's douable just not great being stared at by Victor Meldrew. Not the owner of the cottages fault but perhaps they could have a word with him to remind him he doesn't own the shared access. If he did that to a guy he might get thumped!
All in all we had a very pleasant stay and the issues didn't spoil our holiday. The beds would need addressing before we would consider booking again
