The property

This lovely cottage is set in the heart of the charming village of Warkworth, one of the gems of the Northumberland coastline. Beautifully-presented, this cottage has been furnished to provide a welcome retreat to return to after a day out exploring. Tucked away behind the main square, the front door leads you into the comfortably furnished open plan living area. With cosy sofas and dining area this is a lovely spot to relax, someone can prepare supper in the well-equipped kitchen whilst the rest of the party keep them entertained. There are two bedrooms, a double and a single both sharing the family bathroom. Once settled into your cottage, why not take a leisurely stroll around the village, the main street is lined with charming shops, eateries, pubs and galleries and towering above it all is the ever present Warkworth Castle, one of England's finest fortresses dating from the late 14th century. Perhaps take a walk to the river and discover the Warkworth Hermitage - a medieval cave housing evidence of a chapel, confessional and dormitory. The coastline is just a twenty minute walk away but can easily be reached by car; here you’ll find a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach, picnic area and a car park. There's also a challenging 9-hole links course, with magnificent views along the coast and over to Coquet Island, an RSPB Nature Reserve. Discover the pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster, or take in Alnwick Castle and its impressive garden, just a 15 minute drive along unspoilt, scenic roads. This is the perfect base for a relaxing break in Northumberland.

About the location

WARKWORTH

Alnwick 5 miles; Alnmouth 3 miles; Amble 1 mile.

Lying in the loop of the River Coquet on the Heritage Coast, Warkworth is a picturesque village, dominated by the dramatic ruins of its 12th century castle. The history of the village and the castle are intertwined with the Percy Family who took over the castle in 1332. The Percys’ other home is nearby Alnwick Castle, most recently associated with Harry Potter as the film location of Hogwarts School. The main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses and there is an exceptional range of galleries, antiques shops, a village shop/Post Office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops to suit all tastes. Warkworth has its own stretch of sandy beach and a 9 hole pay and play golf course. Also within easy touring distance are Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, several wonderful beaches and Alnwick Garden with its remarkable water cascade and Tree House Restaurant.

Please note: You may hear church bells which sound each hour from the church opposite.
