“Comfortable well equipped cottage with ample parking in an excellent village, although no evening meals available.”

Just about clean enough if you don't look up - dust and cobwebs everywhere. As 5 adults we didn't use the 1st floor lounge so not enough armchair/sofa seating downstairs but can see that teenagers would love the separate space. Garden was overgrown and it looked a little tired externally. Problem with TV took a couple of days to sort but was done in a friendly way. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend

The property

A characterful cottage located in the village of Allendale, ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, and the surrounding areas of natural beauty. This charming hideaway is perfect for travellers, family or friends wanting to escape for a while, perhaps to enjoy some peace and quiet away from it all. Enter into the open plan kitchen/diner, home to a woodburner which you can gather around on a cooler evening. French doors open out to the wonderful garden so you can spend some time in the fresh air at your own leisure. After an adventure filled day wander up to the next floor and relax in the lounge, where you can snuggle up next to the open fire for a lovely night in. The first bedroom lies close by and a beautiful shower room has been modernized to a high standard. Two further bedrooms rest on the second floor, elevated by exposed beams and Velux windows that welcome the outside in. A walk-in shower room is a pleasant addition to the layout and the family bathroom boasts a stand alone bath with pure white fittings. Allendale is well-situated for accessing Carlisle, Hexham, Newcastle and Durham to the east, not forgetting Hadrian's Wall to the north. There are lots of walks, cycling opportunities and unspoilt villages in the neighbouring North Pennines; an abundance of coast to coast attractions. A delightful little cottage for a memorable holiday all-year-round.

About the location

ALLENDALE

Hexham 11 miles; Allenheads 8 miles; Newcastle 34 miles.

The town of Allendale was once the centre of a busy lead mining area, and many relics of the mining era remain around the area. Allendale is ideally placed for access to Carlisle and Lake District to the west, Hexham, Newcastle and Durham to the east and the Hadrian's Wall just to the north, as well as the Scottish Borders. There are lots of walks, cycling opportunities and unspoilt villages in the surrounding North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is an ideal location for exploring the surrounding countryside or travelling further north to the glorious Heritage Coastline. Allendale is home to the New Year tradition of Tar Bar'ls well worthing seeing or visit in the autumn to visit the Allen Valleys Folk Festival. Furthermore Allendale is a popular stay for cyclists carrying out the Coast to Coast.
